      Listen here Filly Brick, I haven’t watched that blasted show since I was in grade 2. I had a nostalgic moment at the aquarium as I was relating to things on spongebob squarepants and other second hand-sea related accounts from my childhood. I DID NOT grow up going to the ocean. I only watched the first two seasons, then the movie ruined it for me. I never watched the rest of the show so thats the extent of my sea/undersea education and I wanted to learn more by going to see some stupid fish. I thought it’d be funny for others who haven’t thought about the show since they grew up and don’t continue to watch it on Saturday mornings and have jobs and whatnot. AND I’m a minority. Now look what you’ve done, uhhh. I’m so upset...if only...

    Hey there, and how are you this fine day? Quick question while this advertisement plays out.
    How do those fish that rest on the bottom, not moving much. stay oxygenated? And for that matter, how low, at those depths, are the oxygen levels?

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s a really good question!! So, I’ve found some sources that explains that the burrows of some benthic fish create oxygen flows, but broadly ‘oxygen levels do not seem to affect demersal community diversity’. I think they cope by adapting to have small body sizes and large gills.
      But then again the oxygen levels here aren’t as low as you might expect! Freezing of antarctic seawater in winter leaves behind extremely cold, salty water which sinks and flows ALL around the world, providing life-giving oxygen to deep waters in other locations. This is the sole reason that much of the abyssal plain is not a dead zone!
