Go Sammy. Rat Pack meets 70s rock. And he even modulates a half step up ABOVE the original key. How's that for chops! If he'd been born 20 years later, he'd surely have been a soul singer or maybe the first black rock star.
Wow. I didn't know Sammy had performed this song, and I wasn't expecting much. How could Sammy top The Ides of March version? Well, he didn't quite do that, but it was still great. Awesome. This might be my favorite Sammy performance now.
Admittedly, i don't know a whole lot of Sammy's stuff, but this is the most soulful i've ever heard him! Those screams he added were outta sight! They really fit the mood of the song! I dig it!
Cannot stop watching this one! Sammy is such a showman. Funny though, when the camera pans out to show the audience at the end of this stunning performance, I get the feeling they would have been happier with Candyman or some crappy song from Man of La mancha.
When I saw this, I thought, nope, but I am happy to say I was wrong! He put a funky jazz spin on it and made it his own! He truly was a talented entertainer!
Hahaha...that walk at the beginning is so awesome. This video could just contain the first six seconds and it'd be worth the watch...so badass, haha.Thank you very much for posting this great video. What an entertainer he truly was/is...amazing.
@@albertalbert5612 Sammy’s version is brilliant. His screams and his ad libs, but the arrangement sounds very similar to the version of Vehicle that Tom Jones did on his show 2 years earlier. As for the dancing, well Sammy was a phenomenal old school hoofer, he certainly had the moves… but yes he definitely has very similar dance moves to Tom Jones when he performed Vehicle. Tom Jones was phenomenal back then, he’s still going strong today but despite what some people say at 80+ he’s not the dynamic vocal powerhouse & dancer he was 50+ years ago.
I remember seeing this broadcast as a child and thinking, 'Hey, he's actually pretty good'. He was a total badass as a performer. It's such a shame that despite his enormous success, so many doors remained closed to him.
At first I too thought that the tempo was way too fast but then I listened as Sammy stayed on top of it no problem AND as someone else has noted Sammy even seemed to be doing an impression of himself. This combination mesmerized me.
He doesnt stay on top of it though especially first verse by the end he seems to nail it. I'd love to hear a slightly slower studio version that would be Amazing! With this band and Sammy's voice would've been greasy! Also just want to add that although I moan about the timing he still sends shivers down spines with his breaks! Amazing voice and dancer
Nothin' of him but he had talent - great showman and a true trailblazer! He had to put up with a lot of crap but it didn't faze him (on the outside anyway!).
Intestinal Worm yup one of the greatest all round entertainers of his time . He could sing dance act and a funny guy . he really should've been a bigger star than he was. sad to say the colour of his skin went against him back then
To anyone who thinks Sammy was just a schmaltzy lounge singer...take a look and listen to a real talent. Wow!
Born in '55 this is what I grew up with. Frank and Dino were Great but NO ONE lit up a room like Sammy. God Bless The Rat Pack and their Great Music!
Sammy was a powerhouse in a small building. Loved him.
Sammy actually does justice to Vehicle! Thanks for positing this, JoeWellington!
Not knocking Sammy, but the original has all the justice it needs

Sammy did great, but the original is so badass
@@mattr8251 Tom Jones did a good job too!
You have to admit, that is some dancing though.
Sammy just shut it down!! Everyone can go home!! That scream at 1:49 tho!!
Damned...how on earth can one guy be THAT COOL? Seriously, he is all by himself on stage and he still has so much presence that it is unreal.
Talent. Just tons of it.
I heard this song after looking for the live performance of the Baretta theme and I just cant get this song of my head...super cool performance.
Absolutely enjoy watching Mr. Entertainment Sammy Davis Jr.
And a mighty fine drummer too! Miss ya Sammy, you're a GREAT ONE!!!
Admittedly, i don't know a whole lot of Sammy's stuff, but this is the most soulful i've ever heard him! Those screams he added were outta sight! They really fit the mood of the song! I dig it!
I love this song and I love Sammy. To be able to throw down like that with both his voice and his dancing, wow!
What a gift he was!
Show em how funky you were Sammy!! Love it!

💜
Yes
Awesome performace! Thanks for posting.
What show was this from, and do you know the actual date in 1972?
cool.
The guy hard more talent on the end of his little finger than most of the supposed superstars.
Why does Sammy look to me like someone doing an impression of himself?
I've heard that Bobby Darrin also had incredible stage presence, were they equal, or was one better than the other?
They were both incredibly talented. PERIOD. They both had the ability to change with the times.
That scream at 1:48 was OFF THE HOOK!!!!! DAMN!!!!
Tempo is waaay to fast...even for Sammy. Nice upload though...thanks!!
