    Hi Jennifer, I have a few questions for you. How does framing help? Is the portrait an elaborate work of art? What is used to create a detailed drawing? Is art a challenge?

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Do you mean framing a picture? It showcases a work and makes it easier to display. Xiaonan is on Instagram too. He posts regularly. You can ask him what materials he uses. He uses different mediums. Art is most definitely a challenge, but a beautiful one.

    Oh Jennifer, this is the most wonderful video for me. Because it involves the most tow closest persons to my heart.
    . You are my guru in English, and he is my guru in drawing art. I like his way using charcoal pencils, and even pen. I watched him drawing most of his portraits and I like them all, his Technic is amazing.
    Thanks for both of you.

      I couldn't read his name, how can I pronunciation the letter "X" in the beginning of his name? and another question, would you please tell me more about him, where he is from, where dose he live now and some think like that, because I've never seen him or red about him. The first time I heard his voice is this time only!

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xiaonan is pronounced with an SH at the beginning. Look in the video description. I placed links to his FAQs videos Parts 1 and 2. Part 1 gives info about his background: where he's from, how he got into art, etc. Xiaonan has uploaded his own version of this portrait, and he explains his approach and his technique in greater detail. Have you seen it yet? I put the link in the video description. :) Have a great day!

    Jennifer, I loved this video. You are so beautiful, you have a wonderful beauty, and I'm totally sure it must have been a pleasure for Xiaonan to draw your face. It's really inspiring the love you have for life, arts, and many other things that reveal your sensibility to the beautiful things in life. As a student and a big fan, I can feel the love you put in everything you do.
    The peace that your voice conveys breaks the walls, and that's why you are a so successful teacher, it's a gift that comes from God, and while we're studying, this peace and love that flows from within you touch us as well, making us calm down, thus making it easier to understand the lesson. I've always wanted to say it to you, but only after this video I got inspiration enough to put it into words.
    I hope God bless your life in every aspect, that He may reward you greatly for all these good things you have done for people all over the world. Maybe you yourself don't realize, but it goes so far beyond English knowledge.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, Lucas, thank you. Thank you for continuing to watch my lessons, but more important, thank you for taking the time to put all that into words. I'll be a little honest and tell you that this is one of those days when I needed a little pick-me-up. (Do you know that expression?) One thread I readily saw in Xiaonan's work and mine was that we both try to create positive, peaceful energy. His work is for the soul. My work is for the mind, but I feel you can't learn unless your mind is calm and you believe progress is possible. An English lesson may not reach the awe-inspiring levels of skillful artwork, but I wanted to do Xiaonan's work justice by creating a special opening. So thank you for appreciating the video and for sending such warm wishes. You have a beautiful spirit yourself. It's always there in every comment.

    Jennifer,I have a question.Look at these sentences.Is the
    second sentence correct?
    If he had had a knife,he would have killed the beast.
    Had he had a knife,he would have killed the beast.
    If the second one is wrong, then why is it so?

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The second one is fine, but it may sound more formal or literary to some. It uses inversion. We can also do this with SHOULD: Should you see her, please tell her to contact me. (If you should see her/If you happen to see her)

    Art is various.
    For instance
    Literature is an art. Music is art too.
    Theatre is an art too.
    Is it true English with Jennifer.
    Have a nice day.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Various" is used before a noun: various artists.
      You can say someone's art is varied. You can talk about an artists various works.
      Yes, music and theater are art forms. Literature is in a category by itself, I think.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xiaonan might be the better person to ask. Sketching might not necessarily be drawings of people. And sketching is usually done with a pencil or something similar. Portraits are very carefully done and can be done with different materials.

      It all still feels quite new and awkward to most of us. Here's an interesting discussion. www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-61226,00.html
      I think I've been saying "the early two thousands" for 2000-2009. Then I tend to avoid naming a decade!
      Wikipedia suggests "twenty-tens" or "two thousand tens" and then "twenty twenties" or "two thousand twenties."

      I'm glad you found this older lesson of mine. I really love this artist's work. :) Xionan is very talented and committed to his work.
      Here are all my playlists. www.englishwithjennifer.com/students/yt-videos/ You might enjoy the Oral Reading Fluency series. It starts a bit slow, but the lessons build vocabulary and appeal to those who want to work on oral expression. The artist in you will enjoy the mix of texts, which includes some poetry and short stories.

      Dear Jennifer,
      Could you help me with my reading section of Toefl exam? My score is not very well and I don't know how to increase it. I try to use your great youtube channel and other grammar lessons in other channel, but this isn't had any positive effect in my score. (My vocabulary is not very bad, as well)

      How about trying ReadTheor.org? You can read regularly and work to increase your reading level. You'll get comprehension questions to check your understanding. It's a free site.

      I think it's not appropriate to use "liked" here because it implies that he doesn't like it anymore that's why I think we should use "like"
      What do you think, Jennifer?

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's okay to use the past tense. Think of it as a response to a completed action: I watched it. I liked it.
      If it's a new lesson, you can also use the present tense: I like your new lesson.

I remember when you were talking about having food in your family)))." what are we having AT breakfast or FOR breakfast. Or may be it was dinner))) Very interesting, thanks. I sometimes help people in learning English and use your materials(it's not stealing I presume))))
