+Thanh Duong Hi. I'm glad you liked this lesson. It was such a bright, sunny day that I wanted to be a part of it. :) It was hard not to squint, though!
Аркадий Старостенко You'e sweet, Arkadiy. I'll try to address more grammar soon. I thought making a video about spring would put me in a spring mood. :) It's still cold and gray today. Take care!
It has also been a cold start to the Spring in the England without the 'New' before it. Idioms were surely created by people who have experienced what the idiom is saying:: My favourites: If it isn't one thing, it's something else, Revenge is a dish best served cold, As one door closes, another one opens, Reading between the lines, What goes around comes around, A pig in a poke, All that glitters is not gold, A wolf in sheep's clothing, Being dragged from pillar to post, Lead a right merry dance, On a wild goose chase, On a hiding to nothing, Flogging a dead horse, Running the gauntlet and my favourite one comes from my dear Granddad, "What a life we actors lead!"
stunninglad1 Yes, spring is likely cool in the U.K., too. You have a quite a number of interesting idioms and proverbs to make use of. My favorite among them is the one about the doors. It can also be said with a window opening instead of a second door. :) Regards!
Aha! a very interesting lesson teacher Jennifer. Well, here in Tunisia, the weather is warm during spring especially in April and May. By the way, talking about spring idioms, this idioms really reminds me of an idiom that people say here in Tunisia when Spring comes; we say:"When spring comes, girls will have spring fever "..Oh yeah! absolutely yes! You know teacher, now it's time that Nadim springs into action and look for pretty ladies to flirt..looooooooool...What shall I do teacher?!...It's our culture! Best regards. Nadim from Tunisia.
abou ammar Oh, I think spring fever happens among both sexes. People of all ages tend to feel that spring in their step when the sky is blue, the sun is bright, and the air is just cool enough to be refreshing. I always feel energized and ready to take on new projects. As for you, well, just don't go breaking too many hearts, Nadim. :)
Speaking of spring vocabulary, I happened to come across some other related phrasal verbs. - Spring on = to surprise someone Ex: The work was sprung on her at the end of the day. - Spring for: To pay for something, maybe lavishly. Ex: They sprang for a new car. What do you think, Jennifer?
Mohamed Farouk Hello Mohammed. Yes, there are quite a few expressions with 'spring." Your examples are good ones. I decided to keep the number low in this lesson and make sure the vocabulary is understood and recalled with the correct form. Here's another: Spring has sprung! Today is very warm, not like the day I filmed this lesson. Have a great week!
JenniferESL Thanks! I must say that the examples are not mine. I got them from a post that I read the other day on Facebook. I just thought I should share them here. :)
You can see spring in march. (Valid North hemisphere) You can see in spring in september. (Valid south hemisphere) If you live in 23 rd september, you may see "night time is equal morning time" Can you check my comments English with Jennifer? Is there any fault. Note1: Your last phrasal verb videos is very great. But i heard next video will be last video (about phrasal verb) Is it true? English with Jennifer.
Hi. Yes, Lesson 10 will be the final video in that series. It's almost time to move on to a new topic. I'm sure there will be another phrasal verb challenge in the future. :) In your examples, you can say: Depending on which hemisphere you live in, you can see spring in March or September. On September 23, you may see the day where night and day are equal.
Hi Jennifer Thank you for sharing! Could you please tell me which preposition goes with schedule in this case. My son is scheduled to/for a surgery next month. I'm taking my son to the hospital often and I have to deal with many drs and I would like to be clear with im saying. hope not to bother you, Thank you!🌹😉 Regards from Chicago!
Victorina Solís Hello Victorina. You say that someone is scheduled FOR surgery. I'll be turning my attention back to prepositions soon. :) Have you seen my lessons in the playlist on prepositions?I wish you and especially your son good luck!
JenniferESL Yes, embed. But I want to put subtitles as a text next to the video. It would be highlighted when you speak and visitors would click on a phrase when they want to repeat it. Also they can slowdown your speech or repeat every phrase automatically or make pauses after phrases.
fernando port Hello Fernando. I'm still responding to messages daily, but I needed to give some attention to other projects, so new videos have been delayed. I hope to offer a new lesson soon. Thank you for your patience and support. Kind wishes!
Hello Jennifer another question, How can I say a negative question with never?, can I say: don't you never go home.. or never you go home.?, Please help me...I hope you can help again... best regards.
Hi Jennifer! I'm sure you have a worm weather now. Could you please clarify me is their a big difference between "reported on" and "reported" in question like this: "What is the main purpose of the research reported on in this article?" I would like to learn is there some rules on such kind of phrasal worb. By the way this is that article (it seemed me interesting): www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/10584927/Brains-of-elderly-slow-because-they-know-so-much.html
Аркадий Старостенко Hi Arkadiy. Yes, the weather is getting warmer, but the kids still wear hats to school in the morning, so spring is still making its way into New England. To answer your question, we report news, report information, and report facts. We report on the development of a situation. Someone can report on a project, giving an update. "report" + object / "report on" + object They really mean the same thing, but use different structures. That's an interesting article. It would be fun to discuss. I keep meaning to schedule another conversation class, but projects pile up on my desk and I delay the adding a class to my weekly schedule since I already have some time devoted to private instruction. Would you be interested in joining another group class in May or June? We could limit it to four on WizIQ.
JenniferESL Hi Jennifer! Thank you for explanation. I associate this case with verb "go on" - if some action is continuing or something is going on so the particle "on" hints to continuing like the partticle "up" as a rule points the direction north or up. I would join to your class with plesuare if it is going to be after May 17. I would like also to "let you in on" a great application for brushing up on new words or phrases with help of cards (or flash cards). I have learned about this application from the distant course (MOOC, www.edx.org) developed UC Berkeley. I have tried out many program of such kind before and have chosen this because it is most elaborated and for free. The developers have worked on Anki program in the best way. Here is their site: ankisrs.net/. We can create decks and 2-side cards from desktop or smartfons (more convinient is from desktop) then sincronize data with help of its web server so that the cards are kept in many places. We can create cards with pictures, sounds, cards in which you might type the answer, for example, the spelling of the word and so on. This application uses a sophisticated algorithm to memorize new words and brushing up further and the statistics of daily repetitions are sincronized among all devices too. At first I have created sentences with verbs from your 20-day phrasal verb challenge and now I go on to fill it with a new words or phrases I have faced. I divide the cards on two sorts - the question is a sentence on Russian, the answer is its translation where new word or phrase is included. I strive to vary time form or type of the sentence. And the second sort of the cards is for typing of complicated new words to improve spelling. For sure this program can be used in many fields of education besides language learning. Thank you Jennifer. Have a good weekend! Look forward your corrections if you have time.
Аркадий Старостенко Hi Arkadiy. Thanks for sharing the resource. There are several ways you can work with Flashcards. Looks like you've developed a system that works for you. We'll see how May develops and whether I can schedule a live class or not. I'll offer a few corrections for you to study, okay? 1. Thank you for your explanation. / Thank you for the explanation. [Either an article or a possessive adjective is needed.] 2. It is the most developed (the most robust, the most advanced, the most comprehensive) and it is free. ["Elaborate" is best for statements, information, explanations - something involving words. "Could you please elaborate on your answer?"] 3. First, I created sentences with the verbs from your 20-day phrasal verb challenge, and now I'm filling in the cards with new words and phrases. [simple past = completed action/ present progressive = ongoing action in the present] 4. synchronized [spelling] 5. The second type of cards is for typing complicated words to improve spelling. ["Sort" isn't really incorrect, but I feel "type" is more natural in this context.]
Hi Jennifer, I just deleted my spam folder. When I clicked ok, I saw your name on the list. I don't know why your email (email I have signed up for in your website) end up in the spam folder, but anyways I don't want to cry over spilled milk. Would it be possible to resend it? Thanks, Vagner
Vagner Iupi Hi Vagner. Thank you for writing. Unfortunately, when I do a search for "Vagner," nothing comes up. Are you able to sign up with a second address? I'm sorry.
