Si bien se ve la perfecta definición, falta la habilidosa jugada de Archie Gemmill en el mejor gol del mundial 78!!!

At 0:43, not offside at all. I watched several highlights from 78 recently and I had the impression that offside was called poorly fairly often.

The refereeing was awful in 1978.

great job man, as usual, 1974 second phase, east germany-argentina 1:1, i think its a good match, lot of action and chances, and i coudnt find any video, there is one but very bad quality with around 4 minutes, in compare for example with match brazil-poland for third place 0:1, where we have one goal and almost no interesting at all. if u can make this one would be nice. all best until next video soon

You only showed a fraction of Archie Gemmil's goal. What the fuck?

The best team in Europe undone by a crap manager, an under rating of a good Iranian side, and two valid goals here. At the time when everyone was screaming out for great players Scotland had the pick of guys who were to win the European Cup for 5 years running. They could easily have won that World Cup.

I think you've been drinking. The only players up to international standard here were Buchan, Souness and Gemmill. The rest just weren't that good outside their clubs and that goes for Kenny Dalglish.
All the evidence points to Holland having played for a draw - they often played tactically like this - they did it against Peru in their second game. They wanted to avoid Argentina in the second round and knew that Peru would most likely beat Iran and finish top of the group if they themselves got just a point. They thought that Scotland wouldn’t be too much of a threat and even left out Arie Haan and picked Johan Neeskens, even though he was known not to be fit, and played offside all night. However, Scotland surprised them (and everyone else) and nearly pulled it off, but the Dutch had enough experience and skill to squeeze it out.

@@Ruda-n4h I just read this. You're either on crack or you simply were not around when the 1978 World Cup was taking place. Scotland had the best outside left in the world at the time (John Robertson. Robertson single-handedly won poxy little Nottingham Forest 2 European Cups back to back). They had McGovern as well (who captained Forest to back to back European Cup wins). They had the best young striker in Europe: Andy Gray. They had the best young centre-back in Europe: Alan Hansen (who had just won the European Cup with Liverpool). They had Derek Johnstone and Davie Cooper at Rangers, who the following season only lost out by a single goal in the QF of the European Cup after knocking out Eindhoven and Juventus, who were basically the Italian national side. Out of all of those, McLeod picked only Robertson in the squad and only selected Robertson during the matches. They lost McGrain, the best right back in world football at the time, to injury. Even with the squad they had, better selections would have seen them easily account for Iran and Peru. I watched the game against Holland live. The Dutch were not playing tactically for fuck all; they were played completely off the park which is proved by the fact that Scotland scored 5 goals against them. Holland were washed up by 1978 and left it all to Rensenbrink to do. They got lucky with two goals in a minute against Austria and that got them to the final. When Scotland went to Buenos Aires in 1977 they came away with an easy draw. They were not lucky. They were not shit. They just had a manager who was out of his depth and could not bring himself to admit he was wrong in his selections until the players took control and showed him how to do things.

@@stevebloomer7027 I stand by my comments - the evidence was on the pitch and by the way Rensenbrink was far superior to Robertson who was anonymous against Iran. All those players you mentioned never really 'did it' at international level apart from McGrain, but they were very good for their clubs.

Primero de ese grupo en el mundial de Argentina 1978 , la selección peruana de fútbol, revelación del torneo y el mejor equipo de la primera ronda del mundial.

Incredibly bad referring, but bloody hell did Scotland have a great team !!

They had a mediocre team which was proven by the results. Holland played for a draw here but Scotland surprised them, however when the scoreline reached the danger zone, Krol and Rep merely walked down the middle of the pitch and wallop.
