Certain competitive events like the Dinny stones, and farmers walk have a lot more to do with pain management/acceptance than they do with who's stronger. Mitch is the master at that.
Funny seeing people complain about split jerks. Sumo deadlifts are not more technical than conventional, they simply load your adductors and glutes more while decreasing the range of motion. Split jerks on the other hand have both technical and power requirements that counterbalance the simplicity of a push press. I didn't see anyone whine about how Mateusz' viper pressing on the log is easier in terms of raw pressing power because of the non-trivial technical requirements to pull that off. Lastly, as a casual viewer I want to see strongmen lift as much weight above their head as humanly possible, not struggle with what is a warm-up for an elite heavyweight Olympic lifter. Strongman competitions already have strict pressing events, and if you're going to allow the use of legs, I want to see big numbers.
I don’t know what was more impressive, sonny’s ankle mobility or his effortless behind neck press while in a full squat. I think the reason we rarely see a split jerk is because people were trolled for it like Rob Kearney and Koklayev sayong you’re not strong enough or man enough to press it with shoulders. Trying to remember who talked down Rob Kearneys USA log record saying it shouldn’t count?
Learning olympic lifts and training in that style consistently for a couple of years after only doing powerlifting was humbling but also had a great ROI for my strength and conditioning.
