Need more videos on the CTS. I love my car and I don’t feel like paying Cadillac a arm and a leg to fix something easy.

Grreat job, man. I just went to the dealer to get this fixed and it worked for a few days. Now the door doesn't open again from the inside OR outside handle. So frustrating that it is a common problem and they STILL won't fix it correctly.

I would like to add something here which might help others: I went ahead and bought the replacement part as the original one fell apart on me and I saw that mine has a white plastic clip which I did not see in your video so, since the part was cheap enough, I just went ahead and bought the replacement part whichIsaw on a similar video. Long story short, I changed out the part and thankfully everything worked fine. BUT, as I was listening to these Caddy DIY videos I came across a comment that almost made me just walk away7 from the project. It said that if you hear the 'chunk-chunk' sound when you push the button, most likely its not the button, so cleaning or replacingis not the answer. I almost lost it !! A buddy of mine convinced me that since
I was half way through it just bring the dang thing backout to the car and re-installit, who knows, with any luck yadda yadda. SoI did. And it WORKED. Now heres the thing(s): 1: Those gold
contacts were as clean as a whistle, something that made me want to just give up right there PLUS I recalled that notice that when I was taking the until out of the door, mine was taped to the 9s. I mean if it wasn't air / waterproof, nothing is !! and 2) If I could still hear that 'chunk chunk' sound, then obviously the button was still working a contact is being made. So I got off my butt and installed the new piece, crossed my fingers, said my prayers and unbelievable, it worked, first try !!
so all you Backyard Mechanics, it might not be a short caused by water leaking / dripping down the window of an opened door or that the contacts needed cleaning, whatever. At least it certainly appeared this way in my situation although I DID put install a brand new GM part.
Of course I think Mareno is right about taking an alcohol covered Q tip to the contacts anyhow since you already have it apart I'm just sayin' don't give up if the contacts look clean or same for the Q tip. And above all , just because you hear that chunk-chunk sound (window drops down to prevent vapor lock) don't assume that the connection inside the button isn't making the connection !!
Clean it or replace it anyhow because you do NOT want to go to the next step which involves ridiculous steps time and effort to complete and its MUCH more expensive if you pay the dealer to do it.
*See my 'Reply' next for the rest. seems I was a little too wordy but I saved the best fo rlast !!

Damn I wish I would’ve done some DD and found your channel. Brought it in to dealer and got robbed for $600 3 years ago. It’s happened again and I bet all they did was clean it off like you just did. Do you have any video on the outside door latch opener where you slide your hand to open? Is this a simple fix? Dealers are crooks. Thanks brotha!

Unfortunately I don't have a video for that issue. Knock on wood, I haven't experienced that issue yet.

When I push my drivers side button I hear the cha-chunk sound which appears to be coming from the doors window dropping down to break vapor lock but nothing else happens (door doesn't un-lock). At random though it WILL work, other times it seems that I could sit here pushing that button all day and it wouldn't un-lock.
Do you think this is the same situation that you fixed here ? Thank you so much for any assistance you can share. I'm scared to death that I'm going to get in a wreck and be trapped in my car.
Kind of makes it hard to enjoy it, ya know ? Oh yeah, mine is a 2014 coupe. Thanks again sir !!

@@marenothecarguy8361 Thankyou for your reply and I noticed one other thing: I thought the actuator was working because I heard that 'chk-chuk' noise whenever I pushed that button. I finally realised that it was the window coming down (to prevent an 'air lock'), which is a feature of the Caddy (as I'm sure you know), not the door partially opening.. The button used to open the door about every 5 - 10 pushes but now I get nothing except that vapor lock prevention noise and the window coming down an 1/8th of an inch or so.
I've yet to try your 'fix' as I'm an old guy with 'old person hand shake' and so I'm a little nervous about attempting this. Thankfully though, you have supplied this informative video which will be invaluable to me, and no doubt so many others, should I give it a try ! You sir are a GOOD MAN !!

@@marenothecarguy8361 Hi again, so turns out that this was a temporary fix. It seems as though the door lock actuator is actually what is acting up. I was wondering if you had any videos on this. I was looking at others and the coupe is unique in the fact the actuator is not on the door rather it is on the frame of the car, so those other videos detailing how to get to the actuator are not exactly helpful

Are the drivers side and passenger side interchangeable ? I'm the only one using the car and for now it wouldn't be an issue if the passenger side door had the problem in case I screw something up.

Yes it is. The plug under the grey plastic housing is interchangeable. The grey housing itself is not interchangeable.

Its sounds like youre saying the soft pad you press from the outside of the car isn't allowing you to open the door from the outside. Would this be correct? Also, are you able to open then from the inside using the buttons? Or are you only able to you the lever in the floor to open your doors?

I would suggest taking it apart just like in the video to see why it’s collapsed. I’m assuming the spring broke or the purple pad has collapsed.
