      Learn how to play it, and you will appreciate its epic intricacy and beauty even more. The complexity of Bach's polyphonic music consisting of structures of separate voices and the way they came together to create one, combined flow of auditory bliss, is unparalleled in the rest of music history. If God existed and could write music, this is what it would sound like.

    Je me suis toujours dit que la musique de Bach a trait à la contemplation,elle n'est pas perceptible seulement avec l'ouïe,d'autres facultés sensitives se dressent et s'éveillent en nous, dont celle de l'image. Ça peut vous étonner mais une fugue de Bach me procure autant d'émerveillement visuel qu'une toile d'un Caravage,et c'est cette beauté qui me transcende dans mes heures de contemplation.

      Can you elaborate on what you just said?

    • @JPGroen
      @JPGroen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justynak3867 I can. This is about a holy ghost proceeding from a Father and his Son (so most probably a male ghost), which apparently helped mr. Bach to compose, perhaps because he did not have enough talent of his own. And this then is the good message of hope for christians: if you do not have so much talent of your own, you can wait or pray and maybe this holy ghost will visit you and take your hand and miraculously make your hand write down a score, a poem, a novel or perhaps even a painting. Who knows....!

    • @JPGroen
      @JPGroen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justynak3867 There is even more to this. What Mr. Nagaev teaches us is that if there is something you like very much, something you find very beautiful, something which lifts up your spirits, then you can know that it comes from God. Because a simple man, perhaps also a simple woman, cannot make something that would be so beautiful - God and his Son, through their holy ghost, must be involved in it, be it in a Bach composition, a Rembrandt painting or a Van Gogh, a song of Beyoncé, a Lucian Freud, a novel by Bataille, a movie from Paul Verhoeven, perhaps even a rap by R Kelly. Isn't that great? (or does the holy ghost only appreciate organ music.....?)

    • @JPGroen
      @JPGroen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justynak3867 Perhaps one even ought to say that any beauty comes from God and his Son, through their holy ghost. Perhaps even that beauty equals God... That would also mean that there are many Gods and then also many ghosts, since different people very often find beauty (= God) in very different things, and what one considers beauty, someone else despises. In which case the former would find and adore a different god than the latter.

    • @JPGroen

      I'm afraid their short attention spans would take over and they'd wander off. Fugal music makes very little sense to most people when it sounds like one big DAAAAAAAA I mean, what do you do with that if you're not a lover of baroque music? They'd head for the concession stands.

    Wagner called Bach "The incomparable miracle of music." I think we (those listening now) all know why he would say that. While I'm not a big fan of Opera, I love Wagner's instrumental/orchestral writing, and I can't help think that he must have been inspired largely by Bach's organ works -- their scope, their inventiveness, and the sheer majesty of them.

Bach is proof of the wonderful possibilities of the human brain through the operation of chance and natural selection, combined with environment. Why turn to a supernatural explanation when the evolutionary one is so majestic? See Dawkins "The God Delusion" Pp86-87 "The Argument from Beauty".

    I believe we will see modern music take a shift towards composing in this random precision and utilizing digital effect/sound system to induce a full effect.

      +Roy Andersen Hi Roy; Indeed "what more can be said?" Think about what you've heard and/or listen to it again. I'm sure you have the words ( the vocabulary) to express something other than "WOW!" How about: Why does this organist (like so many other organists) seem to have only one level of volume (ff or fff)? Why do most of these highly skilled and well educated scholars of Bach's music make Bach sound like a high speed freight train bound for Easter? Where are the changes in registrations and tempi? The written composition is only a map; it is not the territory. The real music is in the ear, not on the page. Imitation (of Bach) is not the highest form of compliment or proof of excellence! Where's the love, the joy? Etc., etc. Listen. I know you can do it. CVD

      +Charles Davis are you an organist? I'm guessing not seeing as you do not know the technicalities of playing an organ. For a start, they don't have touch sensitive keys so you cannot simply alter the dynamics as you wish. This is done through stop changes.
      Furthermore, you talk about the score only being a map but the organist playing these pieces is using appropriate stop changes and has done a very good job of playing these pieces as they should be.

      Hi Will; I've been an organist for 50 plus years and taught piano and organ for half that time... still do. You can alter the dynamics via both stops and the pedals. And your ideas about "should" and mine are two different things. Thanks. CVD

      +Charles Davis so basically because you've been playing organ for years, you think that everyone else is inferior and they should play in your style?

    Bach's pipe organ music is sublime and elegant in one instance without regard to dynamic level since it must occupy the air space of a huge cathedral structure. Interpretation of dynamic contrast is at the will of the organist. it's just that basic. Mr. Charles Davis, i disagree with your comments in criticism of Mr. Roy Andersen because you belittle him without regard for Mr. Actaeus comments, prior, and placed yourself on a pedestal higher than that of the composer. what's up with that?
