    A video on external boilers would be good. Would have thought they are prone to many more issues being exposed to the British elements, but must be a reason or two why you would have them. Interesting video, especially seeing it cut open!

    Yet another great video. Just wondering why you wouldn't give the system a flush, or at least a full drain down, then refill? It does look like the system is fairly dirty. But I would bow to your greater knowledge if you can show a newby why you didn't drain down, or was it just to get the PHE changed? Looking forward to your comment(s). Thanks in advance.

    Really really informative video for a D.I.Y-eeeer.
    Not a job I would tackle as I have a reliable plumper, but have spotted a crud build up on the connections in and out. Also a few times a year the pressure drops, but we can go months and months (March-August) without any pressure drops. Are there any failure modes on these exchanger that can result in pressure drop? We have checked all the usual things (leaks etc). I have the same Grant boiler as the one you have shown, but installed in the house. Love the effort and production quality you put into your videos - you deserve all the success mate!

    Great video, I have a combination boiler and the heat exchanger is only about a third of the depth of the one you took off, it's rated at 21-27kw. I would like to install a bigger heat exchanger, I have room in the cabinet. Flow rate at the hot tap is poor at best and I'm thinking that a larger heat exchanger would help to improve flow rate. What do you think.

Would you advise getting a Combi Boiler instead of using a hot water cylinder, in the summer I have to use the emersion to heat the water. Are Combi Boilers Reliable?? Robert

    Wouldn't exposure to elements cause lessened efficiency & increased maintenance / replacement parts costs & frequency?

      Oil fired boulders are big units, about the same size of a washing machine/cooker (60cm deep etc), so some homes simply do not have the space, ours is located in our hall way/entrance. I will be relocating, Into the garage (other side of the wall), once the garage is built.

    What are the pros and cons of an external combi boiler?

    • @myopinion3398
      @myopinion3398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pro :possibly less noise (depending on location) and smell and more space for the customer. Ventilation automaticity provided just make sure some nutter doesn’t build a shelter over it, always fit to MIs. Cons: we live in Britain, you gonna get piss wet for any maintenance calls if it isn’t good weather, not to mention servicing in the winter.

    What’s the difference between a heat exchanger and an expansion vessel?

    • @benduker6839
      @benduker6839 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A heat ex transfers the heat from the heating side to heat up the hot water.
      An expansion vessel takes up the expansion when the heating circuit heats up and there’s an increase in pressure. As it cools and contracts the pressure returns back to normal.

    • @alanfitzgerald6567
      @alanfitzgerald6567 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no idea why he is running the boiler to check this as if your pressure rises because of the plate heat exchanger it is because one or more of the plates has a hole in it & mains water is creeping into the system side increasing your pressure. The boiler doesn't need to be hot for this to happen. If this is the case you will need a new heat exchanger. Worth noting if the pressure rises only when it's on, it's more likely a problem with the pressure vessel. There's a schraider valve (like on a tyre) on it. If you press it in & no air comes out it will need pumping up to 1 bar (usually) with a foot pump. If a lot of water comes out you need a new vessle.

    I have had a glow worm combi boiler installed recently only months old and when it's running on the thermostat and the boiler calls for gas and stops calling for gas there is a clicking noise that's getting a lot louder. I don't know much about boilers but believe that it could be the heat exchange. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    • @rupertjeffries2468
      @rupertjeffries2468 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does your hot water work still, the clicking will be the boiler trying to ignite, if your hot water isn't working either then I would say that the gas isn't getting there somehow, had a similar problem on my boiler, hope that helps 👍

    @plumberparts what would be the issue if my combi boiler doesn't fire up turning hot taps on? I have hot water if I turn the heating on but not otherwise. I was thinking diverter valve but not sure that would cause the boiler not to fire up on request. Cheers

    • @MrCODGLITCHER1234
      @MrCODGLITCHER1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be likely the diverter valve or hall sensor. The hall sensor detects flow (tap being opened) which signals the diverter valve to shift across to hot water.
