When you start eating healthy foods you realize how bad processed food truly is for you. When you go back and eat like crap for a day you notice a ton of negative effects instantly
@Joker Tube Depends what you mean by processed food too, because everything in a grocery shop is processed food to some degree. You will really notice if you go fishing for food, which taste so much different than any fish you buy in a grocery shop, unless you buy fresh caught fish (lets be honest only older generation ate that stuff). Although its better alternative if you can make everything from its basic ingredients as its less artifical.

whos we? Most of the fat people in USA come from countries with fatty foods. Being a first gen Hispanic here. Dominican food is mad fatty, makes you obese and many Hispanic kids, black kids, etc just dont know how to cook healthy food. They like their cultural food or fast food. White fat people try to connect to their "ItAlIaN" roots. and just eat pasta and meatballs all day. I've yet to see this hamburger, pizza hotdog as the standard American diet EXCEPT for inner city people who barely make enough money and just settle for the bodega canned foods and chop cheese sandwhiches

Every morning to start her day she would eat a slab of smoked bacon which had nothing but fat on it. She would eat it with garlic and a tomato with her homemade goat cheese. After that she would go herd her sheep and tend to her animals, mind you this woman was 83 years old. I was there for a month and ate whatever she ate. She would cook all of her meats and eggs in pig grease and would never overeat. For the month that I was there, I never felt more clean and pure with my body.

Both back home and in Europe I had food with fresh products not much additives. But first few years in the US I literally started eating trashy and it kept going and I gained 20 kilos instantly. I realized how bad many food in the US was for my body. Being “healthy” isn’t really on mind right now but I’m focusing on how to be as natural and normal as possible and it’s been great. yes, i'm confused of why people in the US are making healthy food a big deal, but then i realized, all other countries was eating healthy food everyday, it was the norm. same like gym, i'm confused why everyone in the US wear "i go to gym" badge, and pride on it as if it was a big deal. then i realized everyone in all other countries do Sports as a hobby, they're constantly train their body. they got the skills , and they're fit. they're not just lifting weight with no purpose because you had to get rid of the excess burger from yesterday like how american did when i heard that you've to go to the gym, or else you won't get the energy, or can't be productive, i couldn't relate with that. but now i realize, people in the US eats too excessively to the point that they hit the Post-lunch slump, which force all of their body to shutdown because their body got blocked by a big chunk of food. no wonder you're having no energy, can't move, not productive, and sleepy all the time. people on the other world just didn't eat excessively until they hit the Post-lunch slump.

In those cultures the reason that it does not affect them is because they use the food as fuel for physical work and tend to move around more compared to americans. 04:22 Fun fact - the arsenic Joe mentions that is in rice grown in the USA, has come from Devon, UK. Back in the late 1800s/early 20th century, copper and tin mining in the south west of England produced arsenic as a waste product. They didn't know what to do with it but realised it was useful as a pesticide (before they realised it was a cancer-causing element). So they shipped a whole load of it off the the southern US states for killing pests to allow greater cotton yields. Then they began growing rice in the same fields later in the 20th century. That arsenic is still in the soil. It's dispersed so the levels are lower but if you consume a whole bunch of it, and couple that with the fact the body is terrible at eliminating it and holds onto it, you will accumulate it and it will mess with your health.
This is actually a thoughtful explanation. Many of these “enlightened” Westerners really think rice is so bad, while rice has been a staple food since the dawn of mankind. Every corner of Asian and African country eat rice in a daily basis and look how little percentage of people suffer from rice that they claim is bad for health? My attempts at cooking Japanese at home are usually fails , mostly since I don't have an Asian Market around and I have to use substitutes that ... dont always work well together (don't try making rice cakes with basmati , like , ever , it was a disaster) . But I know this soup my mom makes that's just water with tomatoes , beetroots and cabbage with mint , it's a great way to eat well and stay in shape at once . Depends on where you live. In poorer areas, it could be severely unprofitable to go and get healthy food. The amount of time spent getting out of your neighborhood, into a nicer one with a grocery store, waiting for (let's be honest, if you're poor) the bus to arrive, plus the upfront cost of it and time spent preparing it? Yes whole foods are the best for overall health. however if your trying to loose weight it’s calories in vs calories out. It doesn’t matter if it comes from whole food or processed food.
That’s not quite true. Processed foods are metabolised differently and will impact your energy levels differently. Whole foods are more filling and will result in less hunger pangs, less fatigue and less temptation to snack on junk, so it makes sense to eat healthy foods if you want to loose weight. 500 calories from brown rice, chicken and vegetables will be a pretty satisfying meal. 500 calories from french fries would only be a small portion of fries, and it wouldn’t be realistic to try sustain a diet of such small meals.

As a dietician, I had multiple patients that switched from white- to brown rice and really closely looked at they carb intake, where way better off. It's simple. The human body does not need to ingest carbs to survive...let that sink in. Unlike carbs, the human body needs to ingest protein and healthy fats to survive. it's like putting water inside a gas tank. If the body needs carbs, which only needs a small amount, it will make it through a process called gluconeogenesis.
@@PS-dp8yg That's true in the sense you don't need them to SURVIVE. So what? The issue is what type of fuel your body does best on. That happens to be carbs which is why they are the preferred fuel source of the body and are used first. Mostly b/c they are the most efficient fuel source for the body... the fastest way to make cellular energy within almost all of your bodily tissues is through glycolysis (the process of breaking down glucose to make ATP). Carbs aren't essential b/c fats & proteins can be converted to carbs as a backup in starvation mode. The truth is that we need carbs and we need these things in high amounts to function and be optimally healthy. Your body is constantly making sugar to have it circulate in your bloodstream. Certain tissues are glucose-only tissues. Like your brain. Under starvation, or some people call it “ketosis”, your brain is able to use ketone bodies as fuel as a glucose substitute. Your red blood cells however, literally can ONLY use glucose.
I’ve been saying this for years. My wife and I only buy and eat organic, and occasionally Non-GMO. We are way healthier than ever before and my body feels great. Pairing this with exercise will keep you away from the doctor.
Lmao there's no reason to buy organic, you're just wasting money. You're not healthy because you're eating "organic", you're heathy because you're not eating garbage. And if you honestly think there's any benefit at all to eating non-GMO you are a complete moron.
From the us and lived in Europe for 6 months a few years back. Lost 20 lbs not even trying and when I moved back gained 40 in 3 years. I just went back to Europe for about a week and the difference I felt after 3 days was scary. Food tasted so different in a good way. I am now 100% on Whole Foods diet and the lbs are shedding. It’s almost impossible to find products at stores without artificial flavors and unnatural preservatives
olive oil has been a 'thing' since at least 4000BC and was part of the diet of Mediterranean peoples for millennia. Not sure its fair to say that plant-based oils are "recent". Switching to agriculture from hunting/gathering certainly changed a lot for humanity but also happened a ways back. We've had a lot of time to adjust but I see the greater point - animal fats are more "natural" than corn syrup :)
Isn't it funny how Americans call normal food "whole foods" now? I was watching a lady the other day calling lentils and carrots and the such "whole foods", and I'm like...this is just food...the fuck does "whole" mean? I mean, I had a friend from the US stay here for some time, and at some point I go "Hey man, wanna have mac & cheese for dinner? I know how you like that shit" ...he was baffled when he saw me actually cutting gouda, smoked regato and blue to cubes and melting them with the pasta. This dude has been eating mac & yellow powder all his life, he didn't know what the fuck I was serving him.
@@Publiksquare XD the blue is used as a cheese flavor enhancer in almost all cheese sauces. A "cheese flavor catalist" if you will. A pinky sized portion per person will blend in and kick up the cheesy flavor without letting anyone know it is there. Smoked cheeses on the other hand, you cannot stealth in.
This is insane and sometimes even pathetic a little bit. I watch a lot of food-related stuff on youtube and it is always funny to me how the Americans treat cooking like some kind of superpower, things like "In today's video I will show you how to make soup at home that tastes even better than from the can" or "did you know that you can make brownie from SCRATCH and not from the box?!" like wtf xDD If you are a grown man and can't cook a simple dinner for yourself, you are a weak, weak creature.
@@AlexandraAndStuff Agreed. I had American guests over for dinner at some point (extended family of a friend) and their wives damn nearly divorced them. One of them had a few glasses too many and shouted at her man something like "That dude was in the sea, catching live crabs, mussels and clams 3 hours ago... he brought them here, coocked them, shelled them one by one, made fancy pasta and topped it with real cheese and tomatoes he grows in his back yard... and paired it with the right wine... ALL YOU EVER MADE FOR ME WAS HOT POCKETS...AND YOU BURNED THAT TOO!"
My coworker said he was able to feed almost ten people for under 100$ when he visited the us recently, 100$ in Canada won't even feed four people at certain common restaurants now.
The Japanese really did get food right. When I came back to America after a few weeks in japan I had stomach problems just going back to American food. Made me really change my diet
Brown rice has a big advantage over white rice when it comes to nutrient content. Brown rice has more fiber and antioxidants, as well as a lot more important vitamins and minerals. White rice is mostly a source of “empty” calories and carbs with very few essential nutrients. 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cooked brown rice provide 1.8 grams of fiber, whereas 100 grams of white provide only 0.4 grams of fiber (1, 2).
Special use cases for special people. White rice is easier to digest and easier on the gut. Fiber is not essential and constipation improves on a low fiber/low residue diet.

I lost the weight that I gained and I feel much better physically and I don’t crave any fast food chains or snacks (like manufactured ones) even if I see them.

but then i realized, all other countries was eating healthy food everyday, it was the norm.

they hit the Post-lunch slump, which force all of their body to shutdown because
their body got blocked by a big chunk of food.
no wonder you're having no energy, can't move, not productive, and sleepy all the time.

I like to eat a lot for breakfast because I need a lot of energy during the day and I don't have huge dinners so I don't eat too much calories. It's usually very light and small. Who needs lots of food evenings anyway. You will probably lie on the couch, sleep. Don't need that much energy for that.

His statement about white rice has always intrigued me. I hear everywhere that it's horrible for you, but it's a staple of so many culture's diets that are so much skinnier then Americans.
Same here. I'm a little baffled on that statement.
In those cultures the reason that it does not affect them is because they use the food as fuel for physical work and tend to move around more compared to americans.
In america the reason for the obesity epidemic is lack of activity. A considerable percent of the population do sedentary jobs and they comsume more calories than they expel.

Ridiculous defamations against rice are too massive among these westerners, it’s really funny to look at them belittling rice like that 😂

I have been learning about Japanese culture and have started preparing Japanese food at home. I'll eat Miso Soup every day with tofu and seaweed (Wakame), and that can be both breakfast and Lunch/Dinner. I'll also make my own teriyaki dishes with rice. Udon stir fry. Sushi, sashimi... And I have been losing weight, losing fat mass and increasing muscle mass while not doing any sort of exercise. I am excited to see how this unfolds over the long term. Miso soup is cheap. Real soup, not that packet stuff. I make the broth and use real ingredients. It's great!
Oh that's great ! I personally think Americans ruin soup , an otherwise light and filling winter staple , by making it too extravagant , it ends up looking more like a meat curry in the end . Also , I have a little kitchen garden behind my room , so far I've only grown peppers and mint but I'm trying to grow tomato .
Hey, could you point me to some recipes you like? I've been making things like miso soup and tofu for a while but I worry that the ways I prepare may not be as healthy as they could be

It's not that bad if one is motivated and knows how to do it properly. If someone hunts for meat, the cost can go down even further.

The biggest problem is where people are primarily shopping. Some people only make so much money they shop at dollarama for their groceries. You can buy a litre of pepsi for less than a dollar there. They sell chocolate bars for less than a dollar and have cheaply made versions of big names at 2 for a dollar. You can buy chips, candy, sugary cereal, ramen noodles, macaroni & cheese, bread, cookies & sugary baked goods there as well.
And its all cheap.
Meanwhile at the grocery store, 4-packs of chicken breasts are 12$ and 8-packs of breaded chicken cutlets are 5$. A 5lb bag of apples can be as much as 7$. A big bag of chips? 2$. A salmon fillet? 8$. Fish sticks? 5$.
Poor people cant afford fresh food.
The brown rice thing, is too easy to say and put it out like this. As a dietician, I had multiple patients that switched from white- to brown rice and really closely looked at they carb intake, where way better off. Some of them did not even need their insulin injections anymore. Food and nutrition are core to human health
Why is everyone bashing carbs. They are mandatory to split up a lot of nutrients. No carb makes you feel like shit either
I dont think its true. I feel way better without carbs, better skin, more energy. The problem is that carbs are delicious.
Your red blood cells however, literally can ONLY use glucose.

olive oil has been a 'thing' since at least 4000BC and was part of the diet of Mediterranean peoples for millennia. Not sure its fair to say that plant-based oils are "recent". Switching to agriculture from hunting/gathering certainly changed a lot for humanity but also happened a ways back. We've had a lot of time to adjust but I see the greater point - animal fats are more "natural" than corn syrup :)
