you should do a cultural series: eating a normal japanese diet for a day, eating a normal chinese diet for a day, eating a normal greek diet for a day, etc
He also ate more unhealthy in this than the vast majority of people I know. Just because many people are overweight, it doesn't mean they purely eat unhealthy, greasy foods. They often just overeat regular food, which in turn makes it unhealthy. I don't think this is a very accurate representation. You can't tell me that on an average day (the majority of days) most people eat like he did here.
@@sqoo5 That is absolutely not true. You're talking anecdotal. You can easily look this up. Maybe 330 years ago. Now days, pple are always on the move. They rarely make their meals at home. The amount of snacks very. But in general most Americans eat like this at least 80% of the time.
as a 15 year old from USA i became heavy in quarantine i only got about 1-2 thousand steps a day and ate probably around 3-4k calories a day. when it ended i felt horrible and couldn’t even play sports without passing out because i was so outta shape about 7 months ago i decided to get my life back on track i eat about 2000-2500 calories a day of mostly clean foods with some cheat meals every now and then and i walk about 12k steps a day i now have abs and am faster then ever i finished my freshman year as a varsity player and i finally feel comfortable in my body u too can change your life
These average American fun facts were KILLING ME as an American. I knew we were bad but my jaw dropped when you said the daily calorie amount & average steps.
My daily average steps (from Ohio, work desk job from home) are unfortunately only around 4-5K, however my calories are at about 1200-1400/day usually with going out to dinner once a week so that day is usually higher and then I do cardio 1-3 times per week depending on how busy I am and I do weight 2-3 times a week….. pretty American besides the food. But I am allergic to gluten and u have to eat fairly low FODMAP as well, but even before my digestion went to shit- I still was DEFINATELY never over 2000 calories
fr for once im glad im picky because i hate most processed food and fast food… the pnly fast food i like is the folded egg (nothing else) from mcdonalds and popeyes wich are far from me so i dont eat there often…

I can’t believe I used to eat like this. You grow up thinking this is normal only to find out you’ve been wrong you’re whole life 😭. After changing my food choices it really changed my mood and energy. Thank you for making this video.
I know what you mean, i used to be 230 lbs (150 now) i can’t believe i used to be so greedy and not realize I didn’t need that much food everyday. I only eat 2 meals a day now and it’s usually something healthy.
I have a friend that eats alot like that, everyday big breakfast usually ihop, Big Lunch, Big dinner usually fast food, and alot of coke, i tell him he doesn’t really need this much food especially cause he doesn’t do any exercise and that instead of chugging coke he needs to give his body enough water for his liver and organ health, he tells me i need to stop drinking so much water and start eating alot im like “in reality you dont need that much food especially if you dont move around much even if you do alot of exercise you should still watch your diet.
I guess technically for Americans it is normal. That’s why it’s a “typical American diet” video. It shouldn’t be normal… really sad that it is. But unfortunately Americans are comfortable being overweight and unhealthy.
Heartbreak put me in the gym. Learning to love myself kept me going back. Will Tennyson's videos motivated me to keep improving myself one day at a time. Started 262, down to 224 and still going at it hard 2 months later. Thanks Will, I'm learning a lot!
I really liked all the interesting facts laid out throughout the video. Snickers is #1, saying it makes u hungrier is so true, Yesterday’s video made me so hungry eating single size servings all do for so many different foods it was a nightmare. Gonna have to keep working on the swim if we ever race in a triathlon.
The sedentary lifestyle in the US was a huge culture shock for me when moving from London to Ohio. That, alongside the food ballooned me by 30lbs in half a year.

Yeah I found the same thing. Americans, at least those in the states I’ve visited, appear to have created car dependant lifestyles and combined it with unhealthy food to create an epidemic of obesity. Hats off to all of those who resist, particularly as the way things have been set up, it can’t be easy.
When I ate like this, although I was momentarily satisfied with the taste of the food that gave me the initial feel good high, I was constantly tired and lethargic, my moods were terrible and I felt mentally and physically drained and dissatisfied. Wholefoods and home cooked food can be just as satisfying, but with the added benefit of feeling great mentally and physically.
Spot on… sugar/salt additives have become such a normalized thing for people- they can’t stick to a home cooked diet/increase their veggie intake because they think it’s bland. It rly just depends on the recipes you choose to cook but ALSO it goes to show how many people have adapted to eating processed junk. It took some time for me to shift onto a cleaner diet, but eventually you adapt and your brain/body starts to enjoy cleaner food.
I remember visiting US for the first time in 2016 for 3 weeks. I mostly ate fast food like burgers, fries, shakes, onion rings, & pizzas. After the trip, all my classmates were shocked that I looked fatter.

As an American I can confirm I start my day off with 88 McDonald’s hash browns with a small side of 258 chicken nuggets and wash it down with a few gallons of coke.
I love how he doesn't make fun of the American Diet, but rather offers solutions. It's not our fault that we are manipulated by the food industry to think that cereal is healthy, but it's our fault when we don't do anything about it. I'm not American, but I have also made very poor choices in food when I was younger.
Americans do deserve a significant amount of blame for this because they not only don't do anything about it when they find out, they'll actively impede anyone attempting to do anything about it. I remember the average America making jokes and getting angry about Michelle Obama's initiative to make school lunches healthier and to remove junk food and sugary beverages from schools.

As someone who was on swim team for a number of years... I just... are you sure that's swimming? 🤣 his freestyle stroke is so weak, he needs to do a lot more swimming. I feel like I had better form as a seven year old. He's got great form for every other workout we've seen except for that one
You should try our average UK daily diet. Breakfast: light-brown soggy mush. Midday: light-brown soggy mush in a sandwich. Evening: light-brown soggy mush with a light-brown warm ale. What else would it be, right?
I’m down 156 pounds since January 2020. I was probably eating about 4000 calories per day when I was over 400 pounds. Lots of fast food and convenience foods. Now I’m cutting weight at about 2500 calories a day and the food is way better and it’s way more volume of food. Edit: Thanks for all the comments. Update: I’m now down 171 pounds.
This is such a good video Will! It reminds me of the few business trips I took to our USA office, near Chicago. My colleagues were so clueless on how fricking many calories they were taking in. The whole office except for 3 people were slightly to severely overweight. That's over 200 people clueless about nutrition, exercise and bodily health. They would take the 1-floor elevator instead of the stairs. They would drown their coffee in milk and sugar. A colleague also laughingly said we dutch people eat like someone with a eating disorder. Which from her perspective was a reality I guess. Oh man..I didn't have the heart to tell her that the lunch she was having at that moment was nearly enough for a whole day's worth of food. I hope people find your videos so they may recognize, learn and get motivated to take better care of their bodies!

it’s so crazy to me that i used to eat exactly like this until i realized how easy it is to substitute almost all of this for lower calorie options that taste just as good.
It's actually crazy how addicted to coffee I became without even realizing. I have 1-3 tall cups of very strong expressos on a good day. I drink sm caffeine it doesn't faze me anymore. I also became addicted to bang energy recently so that ain't helping my case 🧍🏽♀️

Im an average American and unfortunately i was also 130 lbs over weight. 99 lbs down so far and you have truly inspired my gym routine!! Great workouts, content and recipes. Keep up the great content!!!
I live in South Korea as a Korean American and my dads coworker was recently diagnosed with cancer at a local hospital and was told the usual guidelines of diet set by the American Cancer Society (emphasis on the AMERICAN) when it came to living with said cancer and during treatment. These were things like avoiding red meats, processed meat, foods high in fat, etc. A few days later, the number two specialist of said cancer in South Korea calls and tells him to forget that list because it’s for people who eat red meat on the daily, eat 3,000+ calories a day, and generally eat the average AMERICAN diet. He was told it would kill him because the average South Korean doesn’t get nearly enough calories and protein/fat if they were to follow this on a Korean diet to support their body during chemo and medication. Interesting how diet, culture, and disease treatments intersect!
yup a lot of vegan propogandists and just uneducated people take studies and misinterpret them horribly. of course if you eat a large serving of red meat daily it probably wont be the best for your heart. not that you cant eat a large serving of red meat daily and be healthy but most americans arent following an overall healthy lifestyle
The thing I find most interesting is that being fat increases certain cancer risks, but fat people generally deal with chemotherapy rather well, as it's literally a battle to see if you or the cancer will waste away first. And if you can survive 100+ days literally eating nothing off of your fat deposits, you're going to survive alot better than someone who is a "healthy" American
@@Caffeine_Addict_2020 true! Someone’s aunt I know died from literal starvation after chemotherapy because her body couldn’t handle it. She was very fit and thin (being that she lives in Korea) but the combined stress on her body along with the lack of appetite killed her :/

I would say I am fat but I am still very athletic and studies show that if you are physically active the difference in disease between healthy and fatter people is practically nothing. I'd imagine many of those fat people didnt have the best diets either so an over weight person with a good diet and physical activity is probably just about as healthy as someone skinnier than them. hell maybe even more healthy if they can get more of certain nutrients

As someone who used to eat cereal every day, I didn’t even realize how empty I still felt afterwards… it was always the easiest option, but certainly not the best. Now, I eat eggs and sometimes yogurt for breakfast, and the extra effort to cook the eggs is worth it!
funny enough the standard american diet in the past was bacon and eggs. only after the cerial market wanted to get new costumers and bc of ceral being so cheap on food stamples that they started to market eating ceral on tv a lot and saying it was so healthy and how eggs were so bad and would give u a heart attack.
I can eat an entire box or fruity pebbles and even though my stomach be physically full and I cannot breathe, I am still hungry. Carnivore was my only option.
I think i have like 5 eggs and then I have a protein smoothie with like 20g of protein with a vanana and peanut butter. Like if you're using the calories then it's fine esp for me skinny cunt. But you gotta make sure that youre eating healthy foods. Like i think people overlook the fact that even if youre not fat and going to the gym, if you eat high cholestrol foods its still gonna clog ur arteries etc.
@@hdog2967 dietary cholesterol does not lead to the inflammation that causes plaque in the arteries. High and low density lipoproteins have a reason for being in the blood and cholesterol is a separate component. Every cell in the body requires and can produce cholesterol.
I just found your TH-cam channel and have been binge watching your videos. I am early-ish in my fitness journey, and knew that I needed to lift weights in addition to aerobics, but wasn't sure which exercises to do. The lifting exercises that you have shown are simple for me to incorporate with my little baby beginner 1 lb weights, and I feel like now I have a plan. Thank you for sharing this!
I do the same thing. I usually have 2 cups of caffeinated coffee in the morning, then it's decaff the rest of the day. I used to have 4 cups of caffeinated coffee but I was bouncing off the walls pretty bad.
North America has single use zoning that puts shops far from homes so you have to drive to get anywhere. Even if your neighborhood has sidewalks you can walk on they’re only for exercise. Walking is not built into our day like it is in most places in Europe and Asia so we get less daily exercise without huge personal effort to exercise. Why do we do this? It costs more tax money to build spacious roads and parking for cars than it does to build a compact walkable neighborhood. And we vacation in walkable places - like the faux European towns in Disney theme parks.
Suburbanization is a huge problem for a massive variety of reasons. Learning about how it's messing with peoples health due to over car usage too showed just how bad it is. And why many American's are baffled at good public transportation. When I live in America, me having access to a car was a huge bonus in getting employed. Where I live now in Europe, it's absolutely not a requirement.
When I was growing up 70s and 80s the American diet was: Breakfast: 2 fried eggs with toast Lunch: Tuna fish sandwich Dinner: pork chops and mashed potatoes

I feel like there is a multitude of problems with the american food: 1) you have to prioritize either money or healthier food 2) most Americans work 40-50 hrs a week and you are suppose to get 7-9 hours of sleep. And some people still have to work 2 jobs or more to get by. Plus you may have chores and other shit you got to do. Which is why many of us pay cheap for quick unhealthy food. Time vs health 3.) Most of us dont have a clue about most health things because they pretty much teach you the food pyramid in 1st grade and expect you to figure the rest out. At the end of the day most of just need to get some knowledge and start prioritizing our healthy lives
Fr every year in gym we always learn about health but they literally say the same thing but never actually educate you about eating right and it’s crazy
I don’t understand why people claim it’s more expensive. Fruits and vegetables are cheap, buy your meat and grains in bulk. Just cut out processed garbage cold turkey, eat it, you’ll save money
@@c.m.880 you get more in bulk when you buy unhealthy. even if it is the same exact amount of money, you'll probably get more junk in the 'same' size. Grains are probably the only exception. Those really are cheaper and more bountiful than most food in general.
It annoys me when someone tells me "come on, you can eat everything, you exercise a lot!" and is trying to push some food in me (usually, happens during parties) :D There is this misconception that people who exercise can't overeat. If I say "to burn that I'd need to run a marathon" (just example) people just make big eyes.
Not only that, but also, when you're female, you're not allowed to reply, "I already ate everything today, _so I'm not hungry_ ." Ppl look at you like, you good??? Folk who don't eat scientifically don't understand that when you eat scientifically, your body adapts. It gets into the patterns, it comes to know what to expect. It doesn't actually matter if I'm randomly under my kjs for the day; if I have consumed my _volume_ , then no, I'm not suddenly hungry again now that any given friend is trying to push their forgettable, chain-store pizza under my nose. Like, I don't want it, man. I've _eaten_ . But a lot of unscientific eaters are so divorced from what true hunger feels like, as anything but an occasional + dramatic event, that they just...do not comprehend. Same with ppl who say, "But there's _always_ room for dessert!" No. No, there's not.
This ugh, I also have a high metabolism and am a runner, if I ever turn down food people go aw go on you just need more meat on ur bones 🙄. On the other side I have to laugh at their response because little do they know I'm quite capable at downing say a whole pizza and more. But I've found a balance that works for me, ppl just be ppl
Being from Europe, I had the experience twice in the workplace with Americans that when i snacked on fruit, I was told “You’re so skinny, you don’t need to diet!” I’m not dieting. I just eat normal real food. That’s why I’m normal weight, without starving. Seeing an apple and the first thought in your head is diet, I understand why they are overweight.
The most annoying part is when you are allergic to a broad range of food and they insist on you possibly triggering your allergies. While also not understand how EpiPens are +$200 even w/ my insurance
I’m approaching my mid twenties and I’m starting to become a health nut. I used to have such a high sugar intake diet and this vid resonates with me so much with the coffee and cereal (Im that far in the vid). Once you really get off the high sugar diet, low sugar will taste BETTER than high sugar

I lived in the US for 10 years. Arrived with a 32 inch waist, left with a 46 inch waist...and diabetes. When I first arrived, my then wife took me out to eat and I genuinely thought she was pranking me because my plate looked enough to feed 4 people. The worst part is it's _amazing_ how quickly you get used to it and that amount of food seems normal.. Took me nearly 8 years to lose the weight, come off all my diabetes meds and get back into shape. Not an experience I'd wish on anyone. Eat right and work out kids. Burgers are delicious, but it's not with the diabetes and health issues.
living as an American I was genuinely surprised how cheap healthy food is and how convenient it can be. You just need to know what you're looking for like for example I love the walmart branded food. It's cheap (10-20% off the competitors) and yet natural. As such I can buy Fish filets for 10-20 dollars for 20 filets, frozen mixed vegtables for a dollar per pound and a quart of egg whites for 3 dollars. Not only is it cheap, it's filling. I used to have problems with binge eating and sugar addiction but now I can have a 500 cal meal and be satisfied.
the cereal thing really made me realize how i used to eat a second breakfast when i used to eat cereal omg. and ever since i’ve started to eat a more filling breakfast i’ve actually been able to gain weight and muscle despite trying to for 5 years with very little success
As a teenager I worked for Tim Hortons and we'd have a lot of people who were in between homes or jobs that would order 9x9's. It's a cheap way to get some calories/energy.

I did everything and the one job tho I truly didn't like was the "baking" ! But again I was 17-19 and getting to work at 3 am to hop into a giant freezer and pick stuff wasn't for me haha
You should do a segment where you follow subscribers’ meal plans/day in their lives. Or you could rate some people’s daily(or weekly) eating/training as a small segment

Have this happen at work constantly. People act like you’re a weirdo because you’d rather eat the delicious meal you made that’s not 3000 calories, than grub hub McDonalds every day. And then they act shocked when they’re in terrible shape and can’t comprehend why
As a high school girl, I eat close to 3,000 calories a day, but I also play sports every day year round, do 12-15k steps a day on average, and lift four-five times a week. If I flex my stomach, you can see the outline of a six pack, I am by no means overweight. In fact, I’m 125 lbs. The difference is I move. Eating 3,000 calories a day is fine if you burn 3,000 calories. It also makes a difference if you eat 3k calories of clean or dirty foods.
His videos are so unique, the mix of health and fitness will information and comedy is such a great concept, I don't feel like I'm wasting time watching his videos because I always learn something/take something away from it, this is my new favorite channel

I've eaten like this for a majority of my life and I generally walked away from each meal feeling kind of bogged down or sick, and usually crashed immediately after. I started eating more cleanly recently and I've felt so much better. I no longer feel like I need to explode after each meal, and no more food comas either. It really is a different experience. Yeah I miss the taste of fried chicken and chips but I just get reminded of that sick-feeling aftermath and the craving fades quite quickly 😅
@@SieMiezekatze it’s a combo of a lot of things. Routine. Maybe getting used to it from your parents eating the exact same way, etc. there are so many variables. Highly processed foods are super addictive.

About a month ago something flipped in my brain to get in the gym and start watching my intake and so far I’m down 20lbs and seeing some progress (muscle growth, fat loss, and less of a double chin) anyways it’s really refreshing to see someone with sense of humor to make the knowledge easier and enjoyable to soak in. I´ve suffered from an eating disorder for almost my whole life and never had anyone to show me what healthy eating habits are. I went from only eating sugary things to only salad and about 400 kcals a day, which obviously is not healthy at all. Now that I finally moved out and started university I can finally say that I feel the best I ever did before. I started working out and eating healthy and all that without having to restrict. If you want some chocolate, go get some and satisfy your cravings. Food freedom is the best you can experience and makes life so much more worth it :)
When I left home for college and was able to decide on my own what to eat, I did a ton of research on nutrition and fitness to make sure I fueled properly, found myself a routine that helped me be more energized, active, focused, etc., and I lost weight. But every time I come home from school for a while I end up gaining again because my family eats like what's in this video, and there's limited room in our apartment to exercise in. Even when I recommend ways to change eating habits and low space options for exercising, my family doesn't alter anything. I also find it very easy to reacclimatize to the sedentary, overeating lifestyle, since that's all I knew before leaving. No cap, when I left for college freshman year I weighed 194 lbs, and came back after a semester at 171 lbs, about 3 clothing sizes smaller. Then I gained during winter break being at home, and lost it again when I went back to school the following semester.
What makes me sad is how accessible healthy eating truly is. People just don't realize that a handful of small modifications to your life can make a huge difference. For example, my dad lost almost 60 lbs just by controlling his portion sizes a bit all while eating the same foods he usually did. A 1-degree change over a long period of time can make a huge difference and it's sad that most people don't realize that.
@@Lucas-hn7wt BS, that's just a perception people have fallen into. Rich or poor, everyone can buy lettuce, apples, etc. Healthy food doesn't just exist in Whole Foods.
@@Wazzen563 it's not bs. Impoverished communities can sometimes not have an actual grocery store for for miles. They usually have corner stores where people can get milk and cereal but those stores only offer a fraction of the food selections that you would find at a normal grocery store. You'll have a tough time finding fresh fruits and vegetables at these stores. Its mostly shelf stable food. You also have to consider that most people in these communities are also on food stamps and not all places accept food stamps. But even if they did find and an actual grocery store that is probably 30 mins away from them, they will find that the cost of food goes up as they leave further from their neighborhood and it doesn't fit in their budget. So if you were in their position you would understand that between the option of a $2 head of lettuce (which isnt anything of sustenance) and a $2 burger (which would keep you fuller longer) you would choose the latter.
I’m not going to speak for every city, but I spent part of my childhood in an impoverished area (in Gardena right outside of Compton) and we did not have a grocery store in our neighborhood, but there were stores within a 5 min bus ride from where I lived. Walmart, Ralph’s, Food 4 Less. They all had a produce aisle and they all had healthy options. Not a lot of people chose those options is the problem.
seeing this i feel super lucky that i’ve had proper access to healthy grocery stores and honestly just parents who knew how to feed me healthily in general. as a kid i always used to have lots of fruits, veggies and protein, and my parents always taught my brother and i to eat everything in moderation. not to say we never ate candy or anything, but parents always told us to get adequate exercise and eat healthily. i took it for granted but now i’m so gratetful
Great video! Im from Australia and so the average diet may be a bit different however the video was very insightful. With swimming, it's all about the rhythm. With freestyle, I usually take a breath every third stroke and make sure your head as low as possible as you want less water resistance. 5/10 😊
18:13 interesting fact - most people don't think of Costco as a pizza chain, but they easily outsell most of the pizza restaurants in the world, thanks to their incredible pricing ($10 for a humongous pizza that's WAY bigger than most restaurant's "large" pizzas).
I think the price is all that matters. Here in Brazil a Mcdonalds order for a couple costs 6% of the entire monthly minimum wage. So here, eating fast food is a luxury. In conterpart vegetables, fruit, grains (not so much now thanks to cvd but still) are waaaaaayy cheaper. I can buy a kilogram of chicken meat for 5 Euro (minimum hourly wage is 10 Euro), five kilograms of potatoes for 4 Euro and even a steak for 4-5, so the basic, raw food isn't really that different in price. Only for fast food there is such a big gap. Doesn't seem to have to do with industrialization of food production, really.

Grew up with sick parents and while we were never a family that ate out a bunch; after my father's heart attack, we worked together on only having whole foods and paying attention to food labels. Those labels on the boxes that claim they're "lower calories" you have to pay attention to the service sizes, as they don't tell you how small the servings actually are (in the front) and how most of the time it is multiple servings in a single package.
you should do a vid on workouts based on how many days a week you go to the gym (1-7 days) for example, if you go to the gym 1 day per week, what should your workout look like, all the way up to 7 days a week. and maybe make it specific to your personal goal (lose weight, gain weigh, or maintain weight and gain muscle)

They often just overeat regular food, which in turn makes it unhealthy. I don't think this is a very accurate representation. as a 15 year old from USA i became heavy in quarantine i only got about 1-2 thousand steps a day and ate probably around 3-4k calories a day. when it ended i felt horrible and couldn’t even play sports without passing out because i was so outta shape about 7 months ago i decided to get my life back on track i eat about 2000-2500 calories a day of mostly clean foods with some cheat meals every now and then and i walk about 12k steps a day i now have abs and am faster then ever i finished my freshman year as a varsity player and i finally feel comfortable in my body u too can change your life

My daily average steps (from Ohio, work desk job from home) are unfortunately only around 4-5K, however my calories are at about 1200-1400/day usually with going out to dinner once a week so that day is usually higher and then I do cardio 1-3 times per week depending on how busy I am and I do weight 2-3 times a week….. pretty American besides the food. But I am allergic to gluten and u have to eat fairly low FODMAP as well, but even before my digestion went to shit- I still was DEFINATELY never over 2000 calories

I have a friend that eats alot like that, everyday big breakfast usually ihop, Big Lunch, Big dinner usually fast food, and alot of coke, i tell him he doesn’t really need this much food especially cause he doesn’t do any exercise and that instead of chugging coke he needs to give his body enough water for his liver and organ health, he tells me i need to stop drinking so much water and start eating alot im like “in reality you dont need that much food especially if you dont move around much even if you do alot of exercise you should still watch your diet.

The sedentary lifestyle in the US was a huge culture shock for me when moving from London to Ohio. That, alongside the food ballooned me by 30lbs in half a year.
I vacationed once in the UK and for me it was a shock how fast people walked around London.

When I ate like this, although I was momentarily satisfied with the taste of the food that gave me the initial feel good high, I was constantly tired and lethargic, my moods were terrible and I felt mentally and physically drained and dissatisfied. Wholefoods and home cooked food can be just as satisfying, but with the added benefit of feeling great mentally and physically.

Spot on… sugar/salt additives have become such a normalized thing for people- they can’t stick to a home cooked diet/increase their veggie intake because they think it’s bland. It rly just depends on the recipes you choose to cook but ALSO it goes to show how many people have adapted to eating processed junk. It took some time for me to shift onto a cleaner diet, but eventually you adapt and your brain/body starts to enjoy cleaner food.

I’m down 156 pounds since January 2020.
I was probably eating about 4000 calories per day when I was over 400 pounds. Lots of fast food and convenience foods. Now I’m cutting weight at about 2500 calories a day and the food is way better and it’s way more volume of food.

This is such a good video Will! It reminds me of the few business trips I took to our USA office, near Chicago. My colleagues were so clueless on how fricking many calories they were taking in. The whole office except for 3 people were slightly to severely overweight. That's over 200 people clueless about nutrition, exercise and bodily health. They would take the 1-floor elevator instead of the stairs. They would drown their coffee in milk and sugar. A colleague also laughingly said we dutch people eat like someone with a eating disorder. Which from her perspective was a reality I guess. Oh man..I didn't have the heart to tell her that the lunch she was having at that moment was nearly enough for a whole day's worth of food. I hope people find your videos so they may recognize, learn and get motivated to take better care of their bodies!

I live in South Korea as a Korean American and my dads coworker was recently diagnosed with cancer at a local hospital and was told the usual guidelines of diet set by the American Cancer Society (emphasis on the AMERICAN) when it came to living with said cancer and during treatment. These were things like avoiding red meats, processed meat, foods high in fat, etc.
A few days later, the number two specialist of said cancer in South Korea calls and tells him to forget that list because it’s for people who eat red meat on the daily, eat 3,000+ calories a day, and generally eat the average AMERICAN diet. He was told it would kill him because the average South Korean doesn’t get nearly enough calories and protein/fat if they were to follow this on a Korean diet to support their body during chemo and medication.

The thing I find most interesting is that being fat increases certain cancer risks, but fat people generally deal with chemotherapy rather well, as it's literally a battle to see if you or the cancer will waste away first. And if you can survive 100+ days literally eating nothing off of your fat deposits, you're going to survive alot better than someone who is a "healthy" American

As someone who used to eat cereal every day, I didn’t even realize how empty I still felt afterwards… it was always the easiest option, but certainly not the best. Now, I eat eggs and sometimes yogurt for breakfast, and the extra effort to cook the eggs is worth it!
funny enough the standard american diet in the past was bacon and eggs. only after the cerial market wanted to get new costumers and bc of ceral being so cheap on food stamples that they started to market eating ceral on tv a lot and saying it was so healthy and how eggs were so bad and would give u a heart attack.
I can eat an entire box or fruity pebbles and even though my stomach be physically full and I cannot breathe, I am still hungry. Carnivore was my only option.
I think i have like 5 eggs and then I have a protein smoothie with like 20g of protein with a vanana and peanut butter. Like if you're using the calories then it's fine esp for me skinny cunt. But you gotta make sure that youre eating healthy foods. @@hdog2967 dietary cholesterol does not lead to the inflammation that causes plaque in the arteries. High and low density lipoproteins have a reason for being in the blood and cholesterol is a separate component. Every cell in the body requires and can produce cholesterol.

North America has single use zoning that puts shops far from homes so you have to drive to get anywhere. Even if your neighborhood has sidewalks you can walk on they’re only for exercise. Walking is not built into our day like it is in most places in Europe and Asia so we get less daily exercise without huge personal effort to exercise.
Why do we do this? It costs more tax money to build spacious roads and parking for cars than it does to build a compact walkable neighborhood. And we vacation in walkable places - like the faux European towns in Disney theme parks.
Suburbanization is a huge problem for a massive variety of reasons. Learning about how it's messing with peoples health due to over car usage too showed just how bad it is. And why many American's are baffled at good public transportation.
When I live in America, me having access to a car was a huge bonus in getting employed. Where I live now in Europe, it's absolutely not a requirement.

This video was the start of my love for Will. Really genuine, very funny, and all round just a great dude who inspires you to love yourself and better yourself.
I feel like there is a multitude of problems with the american food:
1) you have to prioritize either money or healthier food
2) most Americans work 40-50 hrs a week and you are suppose to get 7-9 hours of sleep. And some people still have to work 2 jobs or more to get by. Plus you may have chores and other shit you got to do. Which is why many of us pay cheap for quick unhealthy food. Time vs health
3.) Most of us dont have a clue about most health things because they pretty much teach you the food pyramid in 1st grade and expect you to figure the rest out.
At the end of the day most of just need to get some knowledge and start prioritizing our healthy lives

I don’t understand why people claim it’s more expensive. Fruits and vegetables are cheap, buy your meat and grains in bulk. Just cut out processed garbage cold turkey, eat it, you’ll save money
@@c.m.880 you get more in bulk when you buy unhealthy. even if it is the same exact amount of money, you'll probably get more junk in the 'same' size. Grains are probably the only exception. Those really are cheaper and more bountiful than most food in general.
That's most countries though. A lot of countries even work more hours.
It annoys me when someone tells me "come on, you can eat everything, you exercise a lot!" and is trying to push some food in me (usually, happens during parties) :D There is this misconception that people who exercise can't overeat. If I say "to burn that I'd need to run a marathon" (just example) people just make big eyes.
Not only that, but also, when you're female, you're not allowed to reply, "I already ate everything today, _so I'm not hungry_ ." Ppl look at you like, you good???
Folk who don't eat scientifically don't understand that when you eat scientifically, your body adapts. It gets into the patterns, it comes to know what to expect.
It doesn't actually matter if I'm randomly under my kjs for the day; if I have consumed my _volume_ , then no, I'm not suddenly hungry again now that any given friend is trying to push their forgettable, chain-store pizza under my nose.

But a lot of unscientific eaters are so divorced from what true hunger feels like, as anything but an occasional + dramatic event, that they just...do not comprehend.

On the other side I have to laugh at their response because little do they know I'm quite capable at downing say a whole pizza and more. But I've found a balance that works for me, ppl just be ppl
Being from Europe, I had the experience twice in the workplace with Americans that when i snacked on fruit, I was told “You’re so skinny, you don’t need to diet!”
I’m not dieting. I just eat normal real food. That’s why I’m normal weight, without starving. Seeing an apple and the first thought in your head is diet, I understand why they are overweight.

I’m approaching my mid twenties and I’m starting to become a health nut. I used to have such a high sugar intake diet and this vid resonates with me so much with the coffee and cereal (Im that far in the vid). Once you really get off the high sugar diet, low sugar will taste BETTER than high sugar

I lived in the US for 10 years. Arrived with a 32 inch waist, left with a 46 inch waist...and diabetes.
When I first arrived, my then wife took me out to eat and I genuinely thought she was pranking me because my plate looked enough to feed 4 people. The worst part is it's _amazing_ how quickly you get used to it and that amount of food seems normal..
Took me nearly 8 years to lose the weight, come off all my diabetes meds and get back into shape. Not an experience I'd wish on anyone.
Eat right and work out kids. Burgers are delicious, but it's not with the diabetes and health issues.

living as an American I was genuinely surprised how cheap healthy food is and how convenient it can be. You just need to know what you're looking for like for example I love the walmart branded food. It's cheap (10-20% off the competitors) and yet natural. As such I can buy Fish filets for 10-20 dollars for 20 filets, frozen mixed vegtables for a dollar per pound and a quart of egg whites for 3 dollars. Not only is it cheap, it's filling. I used to have problems with binge eating and sugar addiction but now I can have a 500 cal meal and be satisfied.
Exactly, this is why I have a Costco Card. You can get healthy food in bulk for a good price.

the cereal thing really made me realize how i used to eat a second breakfast when i used to eat cereal omg. and ever since i’ve started to eat a more filling breakfast i’ve actually been able to gain weight and muscle despite trying to for 5 years with very little success

As a teenager I worked for Tim Hortons and we'd have a lot of people who were in between homes or jobs that would order 9x9's. It's a cheap way to get some calories/energy.

I did everything and the one job tho I truly didn't like was the "baking" ! But again I was 17-19 and getting to work at 3 am to hop into a giant freezer and pick stuff wasn't for me haha

As a high school girl, I eat close to 3,000 calories a day, but I also play sports every day year round, do 12-15k steps a day on average, and lift four-five times a week. If I flex my stomach, you can see the outline of a six pack, I am by no means overweight. In fact, I’m 125 lbs. The difference is I move. Eating 3,000 calories a day is fine if you burn 3,000 calories. It also makes a difference if you eat 3k calories of clean or dirty foods.

I've eaten like this for a majority of my life and I generally walked away from each meal feeling kind of bogged down or sick, and usually crashed immediately after. I started eating more cleanly recently and I've felt so much better. I no longer feel like I need to explode after each meal, and no more food comas either. It really is a different experience. Yeah I miss the taste of fried chicken and chips but I just get reminded of that sick-feeling aftermath and the craving fades quite quickly 😅
I am not American.... Was it advertisement? Or why did you choose to have that type of diet?
@@SieMiezekatze it’s a combo of a lot of things. Routine. Maybe getting used to it from your parents eating the exact same way, etc. there are so many variables. Highly processed foods are super addictive.

About a month ago something flipped in my brain to get in the gym and start watching my intake and so far I’m down 20lbs and seeing some progress (muscle growth, fat loss, and less of a double chin) anyways it’s really refreshing to see someone with sense of humor to make the knowledge easier and enjoyable to soak in. I´ve suffered from an eating disorder for almost my whole life and never had anyone to show me what healthy eating habits are. I went from only eating sugary things to only salad and about 400 kcals a day, which obviously is not healthy at all. Now that I finally moved out and started university I can finally say that I feel the best I ever did before. I started working out and eating healthy and all that without having to restrict. If you want some chocolate, go get some and satisfy your cravings. Food freedom is the best you can experience and makes life so much more worth it :)

When I left home for college and was able to decide on my own what to eat, I did a ton of research on nutrition and fitness to make sure I fueled properly, found myself a routine that helped me be more energized, active, focused, etc., and I lost weight. But every time I come home from school for a while I end up gaining again because my family eats like what's in this video, and there's limited room in our apartment to exercise in. Even when I recommend ways to change eating habits and low space options for exercising, my family doesn't alter anything. I also find it very easy to reacclimatize to the sedentary, overeating lifestyle, since that's all I knew before leaving.
No cap, when I left for college freshman year I weighed 194 lbs, and came back after a semester at 171 lbs, about 3 clothing sizes smaller. Then I gained during winter break being at home, and lost it again when I went back to school the following semester.
What makes me sad is how accessible healthy eating truly is. People just don't realize that a handful of small modifications to your life can make a huge difference. For example, my dad lost almost 60 lbs just by controlling his portion sizes a bit all while eating the same foods he usually did. A 1-degree change over a long period of time can make a huge difference and it's sad that most people don't realize that.
Look up food deserts and you will realize that healthy food isnt as readily accessible as you think it is for lots of communities

@@Wazzen563 it's not bs. Impoverished communities can sometimes not have an actual grocery store for for miles. They usually have corner stores where people can get milk and cereal but those stores only offer a fraction of the food selections that you would find at a normal grocery store. You'll have a tough time finding fresh fruits and vegetables at these stores. Its mostly shelf stable food. You also have to consider that most people in these communities are also on food stamps and not all places accept food stamps. But even if they did find and an actual grocery store that is probably 30 mins away from them, they will find that the cost of food goes up as they leave further from their neighborhood and it doesn't fit in their budget. So if you were in their position you would understand that between the option of a $2 head of lettuce (which isnt anything of sustenance) and a $2 burger (which would keep you fuller longer) you would choose the latter.
I’m not going to speak for every city, but I spent part of my childhood in an impoverished area (in Gardena right outside of Compton) and we did not have a grocery store in our neighborhood, but there were stores within a 5 min bus ride from where I lived. Walmart, Ralph’s, Food 4 Less. They all had a produce aisle and they all had healthy options. Not a lot of people chose those options is the problem.
seeing this i feel super lucky that i’ve had proper access to healthy grocery stores and honestly just parents who knew how to feed me healthily in general. as a kid i always used to have lots of fruits, veggies and protein, and my parents always taught my brother and i to eat everything in moderation. not to say we never ate candy or anything, but parents always told us to get adequate exercise and eat healthily. i took it for granted but now i’m so gratetful
Great video! Im from Australia and so the average diet may be a bit different however the video was very insightful. With swimming, it's all about the rhythm. With freestyle, I usually take a breath every third stroke and make sure your head as low as possible as you want less water resistance. 5/10 😊
18:13 interesting fact - most people don't think of Costco as a pizza chain, but they easily outsell most of the pizza restaurants in the world, thanks to their incredible pricing ($10 for a humongous pizza that's WAY bigger than most restaurant's "large" pizzas).
I think the price is all that matters. Here in Brazil a Mcdonalds order for a couple costs 6% of the entire monthly minimum wage. So here, eating fast food is a luxury. In conterpart vegetables, fruit, grains (not so much now thanks to cvd but still) are waaaaaayy cheaper. This is a very strange thing cause in some parts of the country here you simple CANT eat bad even if you wanted to. To be fair one of our biggest problems is ppl starving to death so...

I can buy a kilogram of chicken meat for 5 Euro (minimum hourly wage is 10 Euro), five kilograms of potatoes for 4 Euro and even a steak for 4-5, so the basic, raw food isn't really that different in price. Only for fast food there is such a big gap. Doesn't seem to have to do with industrialization of food production, really.

thank you will for raising awareness to how difficult it is to expend the calorie-dense food we eat! a lot of youtubers would gate-keep but this straight to the point, entertaining and down to earth.
Grew up with sick parents and while we were never a family that ate out a bunch; after my father's heart attack, we worked together on only having whole foods and paying attention to food labels. Those labels on the boxes that claim they're "lower calories" you have to pay attention to the service sizes, as they don't tell you how small the servings actually are (in the front) and how most of the time it is multiple servings in a single package.
As someone who taught swimming for 5 years i give you a 6/10 on the swimming , especially with how much muscle mass you have im impressed.
I'll give a solid 4 out of 10 for the swimming technique.

you should do a vid on workouts based on how many days a week you go to the gym (1-7 days) for example, if you go to the gym 1 day per week, what should your workout look like, all the way up to 7 days a week. and maybe make it specific to your personal goal (lose weight, gain weigh, or maintain weight and gain muscle)
