I haven't watched The Golden Girls since I was a child. I forgot how funny it was. Bea's deadpan delivery really makes the sarcasm bite. She was such a fantastic comedy actress.

Funny how Rue played a sort of airhead on Maude and Betty White played a nymphomanic on The Mary Tyler Moore show. Because of these past roles, Rue was supposed to play Rose on The Golden Girls and Betty White was supposed to play Blanche. I am so glad the producers decided to switch the roles!

I was born in 1985 and I would sleep at my Gram and Gramps. I would be sleeping on my Gram's chair while she rubbed my back and I will never forget this theme song or CSI. I still watch Golden Girls till this day and laugh!

My mom passed away in 1998 but when I sometimes watch an episode of a favorite t.v. show we would watch together it reminds me of a lot funny moments we would have . That's not true - Rue McClanahan was 11/12 years younger than all of them. It is true that Estelle was about a year younger than Bea who played her daughter but Estelle was born in 1923 and Rue, who played Blanche born in 1934. As for watching this every day? I completely agree!
It ran from the mid 80's to early 90's. A lot of the comedy still holds up really well and I love some of the messaging of some episodes. The girls, even for all the shots they take at each other really support each other and show what it really means to be a true family of friends.
You guys should check out Bea Arthur (Dorothy) when she starred in a 70s sitcom called MAUD. She was really funny there as well. Every time she was pissed with her husband, she'd say 'God'll get you for that Walter'. It became a catch phrase of hers. It would make a great reaction video. Not to mention, she portrayed a typical 70s feminist and we all really liked her toughness. Same sarcasm as she has on Golden Girls.
In Season 2, Episode 22: "Diamond in the Rough", when Rose gets home after visiting caterers for a banquet, Sophia asks her: "Did you find one for the banquet?". Rose replied: "Not yet. Ooh! But I did learned that 'Beaked Alaska' can actually be cooked locally". To which Dorothy replied: "Rose I have an even bigger scoop for you: 'Mars' bars are made right here on Earth."
The only way you'll get many of these jokes is if you're a Gen X'er and older, because they are in reference to current events and well-known people at that time. If you weren't around in those days, you're just not going to get them. For my generation, The Golden Girls was an incredibly funny breakthrough show. You have to understand that this type of scenario had never been done before on television, so back then it was quite controversial. I still love sitting down to watch the reruns.
A lot of these clips have references to the then current time (1980’s) so it’s missed on these two cutie patooties that were born the day before yesterday. I went to school with Abraham Lincoln, and even I missed a few of the references that made them funny... but not many. Trust me kids, this was hilarious and more importantly, this show covered topics, like HIV and Alzheimer’s, humorously but with a point - that other shows wouldn’t dare touch in the 1980’s.
Rose was making some sense to be honest with that Spanish fly thing. If it's a beetle, they might as well call it a Spanish beetle. Call it like it is.

I used to watch this and Murder, She Wrote when I was a kid. Nowadays I'm quite surprised that I liked it when I was a kid. But I do know for sure, that because of this show I first heard of cheesecake. Yes, Betty White played the dimwitted one, Rose. The one who played Dorothy's mom was actually the younger one of them all. Fun times :D

Betty is funny as hell, but I didn't care for the role she played. It was a bit over done, like Balky from Perfect Strangers. Estelle was one of the funniest human beings on the planet. If you want to laugh your ass off, binge that show. Another funny one was Mash. The humor was fast paced, and funny as hell, like Gilmore Girls.
