I love how these guys always look so happy and pumped up when they play in all of these live videos...it really brings out the energy in their powerful music...I really like Jeff Kashiwa's alto sound, it's fat, powerful and sweet!
Few people know that Kim was originally in Spyro. I got to see this Rip line up twice. Absolutely, fabulous and got to elbows with 2 of them back in 98 at Bermuda Jazz Festival.
I bought an mp3 player just for their music, so much good stuff, I might add some others artists that are my favorites later LOL......many years of great music Thanks Rippingtons
Russ and these guys have been at the top of the jazz game for years. What talent! Jeff and Steve were always a blast to watch live and Kim's bass solo in this show is simply UN-BELIEVABLE!!! Thanks for all the great music, Ripps, and keep it coming!
Alan D'Rozario back in the 80’s 90’s, they were playing the night clubs in many places... the sound from 30 foot was electric.. seen them a dozen times... they are the best...
Oh my God in Heaven, this music makes me feel soooo happy!!! This whole band is so f***kin' tight!!! I wish these guys would regroup and tour my way again
Working for Dean Markley Strings had the chance to be back stage and talk with Russ Freeman, Truly a down to earth guy with sooooo much talent in just his little finger....the guy is real and great!!!
Certainly lived-up to the band's name. Ripping it all the hell up!! Kim's 1 minute 17 seconds bass solo (4:13 to 5:30) makes life worth living!! Wish i could have been there live!!!😂❤
The only bad thing about the Rippingtons in these series of clips is that they all went to the same hairdresser and got those goddam mullet hairstyles. Other than that, the Rippingtons are da bomb!!! :)
Believe there was a live appearance feature Kim Stone & a few rippingtons (not russ tho) playing with Victor wooten and 1 more from bela fleck. wooten & stone went back and forth improv for 20 min, it was outstanding... can't find it now tho, this was '96/'97
Kim Stone adds the funkiest touch to an already jammed up band!! Steve Reid is the greatest at percussion, and Jeff Kashiwa jazzes it up with that sexy sax playin'!! Russ, PLEASE bring the bamd back to 'Bama real soon !!!
Try and understand. He used a free program to convert the video. By doing so, the program that he used automatically placed the website address up. He had no control over it. Now, if you cant deal with that, you dont have to watch it. In my opinion, it doesnt screw up the video, the video is still very watchable and listenable. For you to call him a tosser is uncalled for. As for my toe remark, use your brain, its not that difficult to understand. Thank you dbh for posting this video.
Thanks to those that comment on the music. And screw the superficial lame asses that can only bash hair styles. Our world has created some sick one sided people. Close your EYES and OPEN your EARS! That's what this is ALL about.
This, right here, is my favorite jazz song EVER. These guys are so good at what they do, it's insane. I might give this song a shot on drums at some point...seems like a nice challenge.
FRICKEN FLAWLESS!!!! This same performance can be heard on their Live In L.A. album! I don't see how mullets were cool back then! But gawd!! I wish I could have seen them back in those days! :( ...and don't forget about Paul Taylor!
Rippingtons? More like Ripping tunes, amirite? I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her. Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.
HEY RUSS HOW ARE YOU. IF YOU WANT TO HERE RUSS FREEMAN BEFORE THE RIPPINGTONS LISTEN TO A SONG CALLED WISHFUL THINKING BY KLIQUE. THAT'S RUSS PLAYING THE GUITAR 1985.
I've been digging this album since it came out. I'm a bass player and I must have played this one song twenty times before I continued on to the last three. I knew there was a video on VHS somewhere but I couldn't find it. Anyone know if it's on DVD?
oh my...that bass solo was pretty sick, a bit too many ghost notes for my taste, but still pretty sick...the guy with the keytar just made the whole thing 20 times cheesier than it already was. what the fuck was he thinking!?
That is not his website. That is the website of the program he used to convert the video. It is a free version of the program which therefore puts the website address up automatically. Sure hope your toes taste good, lol. Next time think before you speak.
Russ should be a top 10 on all music categories. My gosh!!!
They strike a perfect balance between classic jazz, smooth jazz, rock and pop. What a band!
I love how these guys always look so happy and pumped up when they play in all of these live videos...it really brings out the energy in their powerful music...I really like Jeff Kashiwa's alto sound, it's fat, powerful and sweet!
😂muy cierto cuando haces lo que te gusta mucho lo haces con un gusto insuperable siempre he dicho que se debe amar lo que uno hace y así salen mejor
That bass player is one of the best.....Goes by the name of KIM STONE!!! He was the first bass player for Spyro Gyra...........
SMOKIN I NEVER KNEW THAT I THOUGHT JULIAN FERNANDEZ WAS THEIR ORIGINAL BASS PLAYER FOR SPYROGYRA!!!!!!
No kidding? Wow!
Few people know that Kim was originally in Spyro. I got to see this Rip line up twice. Absolutely, fabulous and got to elbows with 2 of them back in 98 at Bermuda Jazz Festival.
Dude that explains why I thought the fretless style was the same between certain tracks from both groups.
That is how smooth jazz is done.
Yep, it’s nice to see them having fun on stage. The production quality is excellent too, it sounds amazing listening through a decent DAC.
Russ Freeman, Jeff Kashiwa, Kim Stone, and the whole band just rips!!!
horn section gets a A+
I saw them live in 1995 at Carver Theatre and it was an unbelievable show.
I miss the 90's.

It never gets old. Great sound!!
The difference between Musicians and Artists! !!!
Saw this lineup in Seattle. Best time I ever had. Got my pics taken with some of the members.
I bought an mp3 player just for their music, so much good stuff, I might add some others artists that are my favorites later LOL......many years of great music Thanks Rippingtons
So amazing to see that Sax being played 'live' like this 23 years later :) Well, everyone was great... So cool (cats)!!

They always made nice instumetals
Russ and these guys have been at the top of the jazz game for years. What talent! Jeff and Steve were always a blast to watch live and Kim's bass solo in this show is simply UN-BELIEVABLE!!! Thanks for all the great music, Ripps, and keep it coming!
Kim has gone so far. I will always remember his solo with Russ on this concert.
What a pumped up track. A high definition concert would be lovely to watch.
Alan D'Rozario back in the 80’s 90’s, they were playing the night clubs in many places... the sound from 30 foot was electric.. seen them a dozen times... they are the best...
Incredibly good and especially the timing in the transitions
One of my absolute favorites of the rippingtons. Amazing musicians, I'm fortunate to have seen them live in New York.
Oh my God in Heaven, this music makes me feel soooo happy!!! This whole band is so f***kin' tight!!!
I wish these guys would regroup and tour my way again

I love the Rippingtons. Thank you for posting this. Good performance by Jeff Kashiwa.
Such a fantastic live sound-production.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!
The only bad thing about the Rippingtons in these series of clips is that they all went to the same hairdresser and got those goddam mullet hairstyles. Other than that, the Rippingtons are da bomb!!! :)

I know, they replaced him with Eric Marienthal the last time I saw them live, which was a few years ago..
So this is where cool cats come from.
