    ".....That's me!"
Bill Murray is the best. They could not have cast this movie any better.

+Matt Hirsh They almost casted Tom Hanks to play Phil, but he turned it down. Now Tom Hanks looks back on it and says that he's glad he did, because Bill Murray played the role a lot better than he could... since Tom Hanks is known to be too much of a "nice guy" in romantic comedies.
He said that it would have been too predicable that his portrayal of Phil Connors would soon turn around.
      I agree with him.

To be honest, I don't think I could picture Tom Hanks playing Phil, Bill Murray, however nailed his character very well in this. Tom Hanks is a great actor though, have seen many of his movies. Was Tom Hanks on Family Ties? Just last week I was looking over at some kid watching the show on his iPad and thought I saw Tom Hanks.

This was definitely a role only Bill Murray could ever play no doubt. The rest of the cast is perfection as well, especially Andie MacDowell who was so believable and lovable as Rita. Murray and MacDowell were absolutely amazing together in this film. I rooted for them.

This scene reminds me of the following lines from Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice": _"'I am no longer surprised at your knowing only six accomplished women. I rather wonder now at your knowing any." "I never saw such a woman. I never saw such capacity, and taste, and application, and elegance, as you describe united."_ Mostly because, _mutatis mutandis,_ what Elizabeth Bennet thought about Mr. Darcy's ridiculously high expectations is what I think about Rita Hanson's.

    • @Nopeasaurus
      @Nopeasaurus ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, I am kind of annoyed how Rita's high expectations for a man aren't really challenged. She wants the perfect man because she thinks she is the perfect woman. But she never has the opportunity to change because the day just resets over and over again and she, like everyone else but Phil, has no memory of it. So the only way he can get her to like him is to become that perfect man.

Groundhog Day taught me to never answer the question, "What do you look for?" All you're doing is telling them how to act to win you over. 😂
I always keep it vague and say "I'll let you know if I like what I see in you over time." Then I just observe who she is as we spend time together and see if she has traits I like as she's being herself.
**I mean, it's pretty sad when you think about it. Phil had to spend 30+ years becoming a new person because Rita fundamentally rejected the real him. It works for the movie. But it's not a great metaphor for life to change to please someone else.

@Lucky-ei6yh The main thing she wants is an accomplished and emotionally intelligent partner. She is just saying examples, but really if she met someone who has spent their life improving themselves, has experience in relationships to know that respect and mutual understanding is more important than zero-sum-thinking, she would likely be smitten. Playing an instrument is just a signal that someone is able to work at a difficult skill for a non-career goal (like enjoying music), and loving your mother is showing respect to others regardless of the result and gratefulness for others in their effort in contributing to you as a person.

He's not afraid to cry in front of me
This is a man we're talking about, right?
He likes animals, children, he'll change poopy diapers
Does he have to use the word "poopy"?
Oh. And he plays an instrument and he loves his mother.
I am really close on this one

To this day, I still don't understand what she wants. Alot of women love bad boys because of their masculinity, but then they turn around and say “He’s kind, sensitive and gentle. He’s not afraid to cry in front of me”. Luckily, Bill answered, with "This is a man we're talking about, right?"
