Biostatistics - Study Types (cross sectional, case control, cohort, case report & case series)

- If we want to compare smokers with non-smokers to assess the risk of lung cancer we should use cohort studies, but if we compare lung cancers with healthy individuals and see how smoking is contributing then it is a case-control study. Sounds confusing isn't it :/?? Well, not after the coming 5 mins. In this video we will discuss different observational study types, and compare and contrast between them. Enjoy!
Oh, and by the way, regardless whether you use cohort or case-control, smoking definitely increases your risk of getting lung cancer!

How do you calculate sample size for case series? I have found Whitaker's reports but it wasn't very clear.

Wa aleykom assalaam, thank you so much! I find it still hard to distinguid between a cohort and case control study. I did a research on whether patients with animal allergies have a higher risk of developing drug allergies. I divided the ptients in people with and without drug allergies (n=7000) and after analyzed what patients had an animal allergy. So is this a case control study (having a drug allergy
Case control study, since you divided the sample based on the outcome (having drug allergy or not), and then you went back to see whether they have the risk factor (animal allergy) in question or not.
