    Why didn’t you cut or clip off the excess nail then file to get it the same length as the other nails? That’s how I did mines.

    Question to anyone out there -- who else has used builder base or gel polish to fix things around the house? LOL. My latest is that I filled a gap on a plastic lid for my Contigo water bottle where something hot must have been against it and melted a little dent into the plastic!!

  • @Poppi_Weasel
    @Poppi_Weasel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for thr tips. can u let us know why you oil the nail after cuticle removal only to Dehydrate the nail after?

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I oil my nails and really let them soak with that glove on to put the good oils back into my skin and nails. This helps to make sure you have oils deep into your natural nail. The dehydrator will only take off the oils from the surface so the oils that you soaked into your nails should still be there and it just helps keep your natural nail healthy. You definitely don’t have to do that step if you don’t have time or do that after you complete your nails. Most nail enhancements are still somewhat permeable so the oil should still get to your natural nail. Hope that helps to clarify! Sorry I can be a bit long winded 😂

      @@TheNailNerdJournal 👍🏽 i was thinking the oils would regurgitate and cause lifting, but I'm still learning. Thanks!!

  • @aw8758
    @aw8758 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you have to use primer after the dehydrator?

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t have to but a good primer will really help with lifting. I have been using this one and I have been loving it! Very little lifting if any after weeks of wear. amzn.to/3IhYD9T

  • @michelleminnen9503
    @michelleminnen9503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    do you only need dehydrate or also primer and base coat

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This particular one does not require a base coat because it is a builder BASE but most builder gels will require a base coat first. And primer is a personal preference. I find if you use them correctly they will help a lot with preventing lifting.

    They are of good quality? how long do they last?

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just keep refilling them as long as they look like there is no breakdown and haven’t had any issues. I have gone at least a month or more without any problems or major lifting but they can last up to 4 months if maintained properly. I keep my nails about the length in the video most of the time but I have done them a bit longer and stilettos for a little while with out any breaks. I feel it is a really good product! I would recommend it!!

    How many layers do you do ? Is it stronger the more layers you out or does that make it weaker?

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t do too many layers because I usually add color dip powder on top of it. I usually do two to three thin layers to help protect my natural nail when I take off the color. I feel the more layers you put the stronger it is. It is made to be layered and built so it should be stronger the more you build. If you find that they are not stronger then you may be having an issue with them not curing properly. Thank you so much for watching!! If you have any other questions, let me know!! I’m happy to help 💕

    • @kimbasavvy
      @kimbasavvy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheNailNerdJournal okay cause I did my nails Monday and they all broke off within the past two days so I should try curing longer? I did 3 layers but I also added a tip could that be the problem? Thank you

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kimbasavvy did it look like the breaks are happening where the tip was applied? It could have been that the point where the tip was applied was not strong enough so you need a thicker layer there or that the tip was not applied properly. A full coverage tip is usually better because it has more surface area to adhere to so it has less stress points. I don’t usually use tips, I just build my nails with the builder gel and I haven’t had too many problems with them breaking if I maintain them properly. The breaks that I have had were because I didn’t fix stuff in time that I knew needed to be fixed. And usually that is at least a week after doing them or more.

    • @kimbasavvy
      @kimbasavvy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    When do you use the top coat?

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don’t need to file and buff, you can do a top coat right over the builder gel. If you need to file and buff, then do a layer of base coat then top coat. Hope that helps!

    Be careful Iv seen nail techs say that builder gels like these can make you develop an allergic reaction.

    • @TheNailNerdJournal
      @TheNailNerdJournal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Thank you! All gel products have the potential to cause allergies with repeated exposure. You definitely need to be cautious when using them and try to keep them off your skin.
