There are so many ways to make a speycast. As an instructor or teacher its important to understand and be able to point out the difference between each style. The secret to this is being able to demonstrate and explain the main difference between Modern Classic Speycasting Techniques be it classic speycasting with long lines, underhand casting with short lines, the correct rod choice for the individual and so on.

If using a sinking line and leader - isn't it difficult to pull the fly out of the water and place it correctly upsteam.
Sometimes the fly stays downstream, sometimes it lands too far upstream for me.

The key thing here is to have the sinking part of the line on the surface prior to the moving of the line from the first to second anchor point. If on the surface at the beginning of the sweep or swing there should be zero difficulty in moving a sinking line around.
When fishing a pool with a good flow, A slow, high steady lift is normally enough to bring the sinking line to the surface. If the current is slow then rolling the line to the surface using a roll cast preps the line properly.
