Whit, HELP! I've never used a cutting machine, I purchased a manual dye machine and a ton of dyes, I tried it and hated it! Then around seven mns ago I purchased the Cricut Maker 3 maybe it's too much of a machine for a bigginer? It took me like four-five mns to take it out of the box! I'm a visual learner so I've watched tons of Cricut videos, I tried the couple beginner projects they went well... I was really good at making flyers, signs, websites so the Cricut design center I've found easy to use, the one problem I'm having I figuring out size and thickness of the font. I made my first sign "Believe In The Magic" it was a 11x24 wood sign that I purchased on sale at Michael's, then I put the transfer tape on, removed the decal and went to put it on my sign and I could not get the decal off the transfer tape! I couldn't understand how you and other youtubers made it look so easy! I used the tools I purchased for the Cricut and took each letter off one at a time inch by inch, it was so difficult I just could not believe how hard it was! About two hours of slowly removing the decal and placing it on my sign I noticed the translucent water marking on the transfer tape and saw the words "Extra Strong Transfer Tape! I went and looked at the box and sure enough that's what it said! In all the Cricut videos I've watched (mainly decals for signs or hard flat smoth surfaces, I've never heard anyone mention different transfer tapes I just assumed they were all the same! I'm not even sure what you would use that extra strong transfer tape for! I could hardly get the decals off by hand! So that was my first project, the sign looks amazing for what I went through making it, although two or three letters did rip so I had to piece them together the best I could! Second project, what I'm currently working on it a huge built-in spice rack with three different sizes of spice jars, I did search the design space for an already completed project where I would just have to size it but was unable to find one that were word decals the only one's I could find were a sticker with the spice name written on to it and I just wanted the spice names... OK, sorry for the lengthy post, there are things I have learnt from you tips, because you talk about those things like in this video using the hair dryer I wonder if that would have helped me with that first project? Anyway, I cut and pasted most of my spice names from a list I had been collecting, I chose a font, tried to figure out how large/small to make it and then cut it, I then went to weed it and not understanding font size when I went to weed it I lost all the i's all the dots for the i's I lost parts of M's and N's etc. You get what I'm saying, the size of the font was way to thin and elongated, as I tried to weed it I realized it wasn't going to work as word decals but as word stencils! I then tried one spice jar and hated it... so, back to the drawing board, I changed the font to one that wasnt so delicate, adjusted the size, I will say that I was working on 4 lists of about 8 words, I could not figure out how to separate the individual words when I tried it split it up in columns so I only had a list of the first letter of each word! Omg! I'm sorry this is so long and I really hope you or someone else sees this and can advise me... I adjusted the size of the entire list to fit each word into a 2"×1.5" area, cut it and weeded it, was moving along OK, but I'm just not crazy about the size of the words I think they are too big and in some cases only one word instead of two fit (Greek Spice to just Greek) my OCD has now kicked in and I can't look at all my spices names shortened! Like Everything Bagel Spice to EVRYTHNG.... Nope I can't do it! So, after that long story! In short, can you suggest or recommend anything? What am I doing wrong? Should I only work with one word at a time? Sizing them all individually? Will that mean that every name will be a different size? How do I do names like DILL then 5-CHINESE SPICE OR GARLIC AND RED PEPPER ? Do I do them all one size the smallest that will fit two lines of words for the longer names? What about the different size bottles I've used the smallest bottle that is round except for the area to put a word which is 2"×1.5" the second size is exactly the same jar but bigger its flat area it 3"×2.5" then the third bottle is tall and square it's 2.5"×6" tall... can the names be a different size for each bottle or will that look weird? I'll use the same font for all of them but I just wonder if each bottle should have its own size that fits the same way on each bottle? Also, can you remove permanent vinyl off of glass? I already made six bottles but I just don't like that they are not the full names! Any help I can get would be amazing!

@Jenna Bella Expectation Vs Reality I just read your comment to Whit.. the only time that you may need the extra strong transfer tape is for glitter vinyl and from what I was told the Cricut brand extra strong is sometimes still to strong. As for as signs, if you painted(or stained) them yourself, stick the transfer tape on something else first to get some of stickiness off. That way it won't pull the paint off. I hope I helped you some 😊

    • @Whiskeyandwhit
      @Whiskeyandwhit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Brenda - I'm thinking your transfer tape is too sticky. You need something with a lower tack so it releases your vinyl. You also want to peel it back at an angle and take your time. You may have to push some of it back as you peel it so it doesn't peel up with the transfer tape. I hope that helps!

Did you know you can dye your etching? Using rit dye and soaking the etched piece in a bowl with water and dye will dye the etching and wash off from the smooth surface. I seen a video on it but can't remember the creator.

Love the sign! Will be making one this weekend - with a little twist - I have a ton of free wood - while I have some long enough pieces - they are not wide enough. First step - stain everything. Second step cut cross pieces for the back to keep the 3 long pieces together to make the right width. I did one at Christmas attaching wood letters - but now I have my Cricut Joy I'm following your lead and stenciling! Thank you for the tutorial! Blessings!

Oh Hello!! Whitney, You are the best educator when it comes to Cricut. I have been using mine for years and years, but I always seem to learn something new from you. Thank you for taking the time to give all the details to making these projects. I love them all, but my favorites are the porch sign and the wifi sign.

Great projects Whitney! ❣️ I always enjoy your videos!
I don't think I actually voted when you asked about the type of videos we prefer. And I realize you create a lot of Cricut videos and I watch a majority of them. However, I don't actually have a Cricut so I do prefer non Cricut videos.
My sister actually has a Cricut and I've used it a little but it's not something I have access to on a regular basis.
So I hope you continue to make videos not using Cricut. Like I said, I watch your Cricut videos regardless because I enjoy watching you.
I do different kinds of crafting but when it comes to words, I usually use stickers or rub on transfers. I get stickers and rub on transfers from DT. The rub on transfers are great and rub on beautifully. But as you know, those supplies are sparse at DT.
I also paint a lot of things and decoupage. I guess you could say I'm a back to basics kind of crafter. 😉
Don't get me wrong, I love technology, I just don't own any. 😋
And since the majority of people apparently voted for Cricut videos, that's what you'll probably do the most of.
I absolutely loved the National Lampoon's vacation themed videos you've done and got the biggest kick out of them. 🤗
So if you could throw in occasional non Cricut videos, I would greatly appreciate it. 💕
Thanks for sharing another great video! 🥰

Do you need to prep to items with any type cleaning agent, if so, what type agent to use or what not to use that would interfere with the Critcut vinyl adhering or breakdown? The etching, of the glasses, is absolutely insane and beautiful.
    The “HELLO” sign was magnificent.
I am so wanting a Cricut, funds all low. Trying to save to get one. Disabled. Would love to try and may some extra income from crafting.

I don’t clean my surfaces for the most part but if you want to I’d use rubbing alcohol for glass and regular multi surface cleaners for pitcher. And ensure they are fully dry before application 😊

Great video, I love your explanations!! And all of the projects, although my favorites were the milk jug and the framed tile piece. I’ve really been looking to make some tile pieces so it was some good inspiration for wall art! I also just love your style so much so it’s always super exciting when I see you’ve posted a new video, especially ones focused on using the Cricut! It helps me keep my motivation up even when feeling frustrated with my Cricut 😊. I’m a fairly new user and my latest frustration has been finding out that dollar tree glitter vinyl, which works perfect for larger writing/pieces, and I love the blue color of, is pretty much unusable for smaller or more intricate designs (at least not without me making serious pressure adjustments).
If you ever talk about etching cream or use it in future videos I do hope you’ll say a little more about why beginners (and clumsy people like me) should use gloves/eye protection! It’s so easy as crafters to be overconfident and ignore people’s recommendations/warnings even when they are really important like yours was! Not trying to criticize whatsoever, since you made it very clear it’s better to be safe than sorry, but it’s so tempting to think etching cream is pretty nontoxic like most other crafting supplies are today (and then get a nasty surprise).
I was super shocked when I looked into it just because I’m a millennial who has only grown up with non toxic version of things but it’s just not been figured out yet for glass etching (or wood burning paste for that matter). So I’ve actually not bought any because I can barely trust myself around it, let alone my naughty cat who loves to jump up on the crafting table. I know I’m probably extra paranoid but after enough years working in a lab with dangerous chemicals and learning about chemical safety, I guess it’s just rubbed off into my everyday life 😂. I did end up caving and getting some spackle to use even though that can be pretty toxic, but it’s at least preventable with gloves and doing all sanding outdoors.
Anyway, sorry this was so long, just wanted to share how much I enjoy your videos and wanted to explain my request about the etching cream safety info so that I didn’t sound like a random troll going after you or your video because I love your channel and all your videos!

Thank you Whitney! I need all the help I can get with the cricut, I can do some things on it. I have the maker just got it for Christmas. But im have a major problem getting my files transferred from etsy or anywhere, I no to go to the down loads, where you make the design but after that I cant find anything or if I do it says it doesn't fit in what they are doing or something to that affect.
But I love what you did today, I had never thought about adding to pitchers and cans and things like that, and everyone is always asking what our password is. So now I can make a sign for that. You need to put that out!! Hahaha. There s a sign for that! Or there's a stincle for that! Just a thought. God bless and have a great week
