I counted penalty shootouts as win/loss for the record tally, instead of a draw.
So this means that Argentina beat France 7 - 5 in the Final.

I think putting Tunisia at 28 is a very low rank regarding what they did in this tournament, they came up with a draw against Denmark and Beated France, they are also one of the best deffences in this tournament (just 1 goal from Australia) and got 4 points in their group, so you cannot put teams who had less than 4 points and knocked out from the group stage higher than Tunisia.
@@rziguiaymen7519 Maybe, I just thought their win vs France was mostly because of France kind of not caring, but then I put Cameroon 20th because they beat Brazil. Maybe Tunisia should be closer to that.

As a Moroccan, if we had to lose even the final, I would probably like to lose it against Croatia of all the 31 participating teams. Such a beautiful team, country and people as well.
I think a very good friendship between Croatians and Moroccans has bornt in this world cup, I hope that we keep on having such a good sportsmanship between us and even play more friendly games all football categories/ages combined.

It was only natural that Argentina got the amount of penalties they got, they were very vertical and if you get into the box a lot, chances are you are going to get some penalties. And most of the WC goalkeepers are top professionals, it ain’t easy to score against them and to handle the pressure from the penalty spot with the world’s eyes on you. People often think of penalties as free goals when they are far from that. Calling Messi “Pessi” is honestly moronic and also disregards the massive influence he had as a playmaker in this tournament.
I agree 100% with you ... there's a reason that people lile messi, mbappe, ronaldo, etc take the shot and it's because they can handle the enormous pressure ...the only penalty that was not 100% deserved was vs poland imo

I don’t necessarily agree that we dominated France. France’s game plan is to sit back, invite pressure and wait for the opposition to lose the ball against their low block, then they’ll counter with speed through Mbappe/Thuram/Kolo-Muani, it’s how they scored 3 goals. The reason why it didn’t work earlier was cuz they were fatigue cuz of COVID, otherwise they would’ve scored 20 goals.
But argentine had the easier opponents unlike france

@trevorphillips6297 So wrong on so many levels. Argentina were outplaying them. They dominated in the midfield and won the ball back almost immediately. They always managed to progress the ball forward. France couldn't do anything until the penalty. 0 shots. And then Otamendi changed the game. That goal that late on, really shook them. Even then, they still dominated in ET. Would've been wraps in ET 4-2 had Lautaro not forgotten how to finish.

Its normal for a team to get a call in their favor here and there. Against poland for instance. We literally outplayed france, lost a lead twice and still had the mental toughness to win
croatia is in the penalty area a lot... but some decisions like with Marocco are just impossible to understand...
Also, if you play all 7 matches, you’ll get more chances of getting a penalty than a team that, say, only reaches the round of 16.

Argentina went against all odds, Scaloni literally changed the formation and line-up mid way through the tournament when he saw that Lautaro Martinez, Papu, Paredes and somewhat Tagliafico weren't working so Scaloni makes a risky decision IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMPETITION and puts in youngsters that haven't really played with each other before, yet they STILL went on to win the World Cup, but this guy puts them second 😂. Lets also not forget that in the final Argentina(with youngsters and lack of experience) went toe to toe with FRANCE(an experienced star STUDDED team) and Argentina was the better team for over 90% of that game, but again this guy puts Argentina 2nd lol. Is it just me or is that guy really delusional?

@@fdplanet5227 Bro, every single one of the French players on that team pretty much play for a top tier team in Europe's top 5 leagues. Besides Messi, De Maria, and maybe a couple others, the rest are inexperienced young players that play for lower table teams or teams outside of Europe's top 5. France's team was a lot more star studded and experienced than Argentinas team yet Argentina still won. Doesn't matter if Pogba and Kante weren't there. You gotta give credit where it's due. That's my point.

@@szz8869 that's true, but injury wise we were so disadvantaged, our 2 center backs (Aguerd and Saiss) were absent (injury) in the 2 games that we lost. Before that, we conceded 0 goals from the opposition. I'm not looking for excuses, just saying that the results against France and Croatia would've been totally different if it wasn't for those injuries. Plus, against Croatia, during the game, both the substitute center backs got injured as well😂, so we were literally playing with only the 5th center back in our defence. Unlucky, but it is what it is, defeat accepted.

as for morocco they would've beaten france if it wasn't for injuries ( unfortunately there was no depth in the centre back position so the moment aguerd +saiss were off it was game over for us ; and it was the same reason as to why we lost to croatia not to mention the coach gave playing time to the players who haven't played yet so it's funny to judge this team on these matches)

As a Serbian i think we were dissapointing because of our defence except Milenkovic ,Pavlovic,Vanja Milinkovic Savic and we lost because of Piksi's questionable substitutions and Mitro was awful despite scoring two goals

Milenkovic single handedly costed us that game vs Cameroon with being too late on the offside traps, he should definitely carry some blame. SMS just doesn't have the same impact as in Lazio and even though Tadic wasn't as terrible as he has been in Ajax this season, he definitely carried bad form over, he was way better in qualification. Vlahovic clearly was injured and didn't have the same impact. The game against Switzerland showed how much we lack in mentality compared to Croatia or Morocco for example, both players and coach. After the 60th minute, there was no attempt even made to come back. Piksi needs to focus on that way more instead of joining in on the politics and he also needs to learn how to close out games as a coach, that game vs Cameroon should've easily been a win for us.

about the penalty, through out the whole tournament penalty calls were bit soft thb not just for Argentina. brazil's penalty vs south Korea , Portugal penalty vs ghana and many other penalty calls😴 apart from the penalty vs Poland, every penalty was reasonable 😐
Soft penalties were consistent throughout the tournament, not just with Argentina. The only team that got screwed over penalties was Uruguay which FIFA later apologized for and admitted that they deserved the penalty, regardless Uruguay showed up late doing too little too late.
@@nickbuis3307 Might want to check the Croatia-Morocco game in the semi final playoff for third place. Croatia was robbed of a penalty when Gvardiol was knocked over right in front of the goal, agressively. It was a very, very clear penalty, ofc VAR was not used, the Qatari referee just tried to give a nudge to his preferred side. Literally one of the clearest penalties not awarded I've ever seen. Croatia still won that game, and deservedly so - but this was despite referee's efforts. Not trying to knock Morocco, they played great, but in this case I'd say the end results were as they should have been. Could have easily been 3:1 for Croatia, which would have made for a less nerve wracking second half, but oh well.
The penalty awarded to Argentina against Croatia is, on the other hand, arguable at best. Some say it was a penalty, others that it wasn't - I've heard experts claim it wasn't but there's probably other experts who would say that it was. I won't argue either way here, but isn't it interesting how certain teams get penalties easily, and others don't - FIFA is a thoroughly corrupt organisation. If a country with a small population can be prevented from reaching the final, they'll certainly try - it's far more profitable to have the big countries in the final.
@@johnnewman1819 I would agree with the Morroco and Croatia one as well but overall my point stands and referees are hardly perfect and if they were I still think that most teams would be were they are. That being said the VAR would be much improved if it would be by a challenge system where a team has a limited amount of chances to dispute a call so the burden wouldn't be on the referees. Many sports have it that way and it works like a charm.
@@johnnewman1819 true I know during the match between Belgium and Canada Canada should have gotten two penalties, the whole commentor team was talking about how the referee could have missed obvious and clear penalties.

I agree with England, I don't know if 3rd place because that would be taking away from Croatia, however I always thought that the final would be Argentina vs England.

Considering how shambolic they were in the summer everyone was surprised when they looked decent in the wc. Very unfortunate they lost to France, Who they looked better than to be honest. I would tip them to beat Morocco and then an Argentina v England final would be very interesting. Rashford running at an old Otamendi, would their fullbacks be able to deal with saka, foden. @@kevinmalone584 Morocco played better than France without Aguerd, Saïss and Mazraoui on the pitch (their whole main defence). Mazraoui played 45 minutes but he was still sick and played bad. If we hadn’t taken the first goal, everything was possible. France is not better then Portugal and still we beat them. Mbappé was the only real threat but we played against other big players so it would not have been a problem with our main defence.

Quite nice, I like the list ; but I would not rate Poland that high in spite of getting out of the group (imo around 25th), same with Mexico and Tunisia who were quite poor who should be a bit behind Poland. Instead I think Canada deserve way better, they had convincing football without getting the results. I may rank Japan 1 rank higher over the Netherlands who have not really beaten top teams unlike the Samurais.

Everyone can have their opinion but your argument of them not good enough simply based on the amount of penalties, without considering any context, doesn’t make any sense. In all knock out stage games, Argentina had complete control of the game in the first 70 to 80 minutes and did pretty much all the dangerous attacking for both sides. It’s natural that they would have much higher chance of getting penalties than their opponents. What do you want the referee to do? To convince everyone that a great team is playing great, let’s make sure they don’t score from penalties?

Against Portugal, I was sure we could’ve won, but we also had a lot of sick players. Sommer (who came out of injury) and Schär were sick but still played, Widmer and Elvedi were sick too. And when we were losing 2-0, Murat Yakin changed the formation to 3-1-4-2 which is absolutely outrageous. Who has ever with that ?!

Morocco played the best football in the tournament. They weren't necessarily the best but x2 penalties robbed in their semi, only made the French team look like possibly a mistake for reaching the final.

My guy it's not only few injuries when half of the team was injured, amrabat which is a defensive mid fielder had no choice but to play as CB, as a substitution for the injured players aguerd and sais, which himself was injured too.

As a German, I can approve, that the 2-4 win against Costa Rica was the most uncomfortable win I have ever felt. I am sorry for Flick, because I do think, that Germany was more and more to the end of the group-phase just unlucky and not bad. If I would grade them:
🇯🇵: E (The first 30 minutes were decent and that early 1-0 was actually a good hope to finally have a better time again since 2018. However, the defense was wobbly from that point on. Only Antonio Rüdiger was pretty decent among all defenders, scrapping some potential goal-chances for Japan away. However, unfortunately he did some severe mistakes too, but not as horrible as Schlotterbeck did. When the 1-2 fell, the goal, which could have been quite easily avoided and so that 3rd place for Germany and the group-win and even the qualification for the Knockouts for Japan, he did nothing except running side by side with the goalscorer, allowing him the chance to make the final result. Neuer was decent in the first half, but cracked aswell in the second half. It was always a STUPID idea Hansi Flick never used Füllkrug since the beginning of the match, because if he did, maybe Germany could have done the deciding Game-Factor they did at the Home-World Cup 2006: Making many leading goals very early. (Speaking of Füllkrug: Yes, I am glad he was used however in every game and he rightfully proved against Spain and Costa Rica, why he should be in a Start-11 for a match!)
🇪🇸: B- (It was much better than against Japan, tried keeping a lot on against them, even making a 0-1.... Just to get it called as an offside. The defense had a severe struggle at some points too, but it was better than against Japan. Unfortunately, the fact Flick used Thomas Müller as a striker, it was a mistake. Many people here in Germany say, that Müller is no good idea, because players he feel much less comfortable and more unsafe in that position and should be rather placed in the middle. Hansi Flick did really make some wrong decisions, so I do see some responsibility on Hansi Flick for that bad result aswell. However, Füllkrug got into the match in the second half, making great offense after then and even bringing Germany (temporarily) back from hell and making one worthy place for the former "Mannschaft". Suprisingly, Schlotterbeck, who bottled it up against Japan, did a potentially very important and good safe in the last 10 minutes, so he gets some credit for this one. Unfortunately, this one won't change my opinion, that he is one of the main-responsibles for the 3rd place in Group E.)
🇨🇷: B- (For me personally the same grade like against Spain but mainly because of the result, since Germany won atleast this one. To be honest, when I watched this, I was shocked and in inner fear, when Costa Rica scored to the 2-1, innerly started crying, especially if I consider, that Germany is the host of the next EUROs (I am still afraid of a german disgrace in our home-tournament in 2024). The first 10 minutes were probably the BEST 10 minutes of the German tournament I have seen. A really good goal of Gnabry. Quick, a bit with style, but ice cold with the goal of achieving a mandatory victory. After then, like against Japan, the defense struggled yet again and Costa Rica couldn't do much yet in the first half. However, their time came at the third fourth of the match, shocking us yet again, like Japan did. However, this time, it was more the fault of Neuer , despite the defense was not that unguilty either. For 3 minutes, Costa Rica and Japan would have passed, but fortunately (atleast for me. Sorry for those, who wanted them to pass), Kai Havertz, who got brought into this match, truly saved this match for Germany together with Füllkrug. Kai Havertz scored twice and Füllkrug once aswell. However, because the Spanish defense was too incompetent to hold Japan back, but also because the referee letted that 2-1 for Japan count, *but also* because Spain unfortunately won much higher than we did, we saved their asses for nothing, while they did nothing. Despite I am convinced, that the majority of the responsibility is at the DFB, I do also believe, that there might have been a secret plan for Spain to intentionally lose against them. It made me really angry after the match, that Spain passed, despite they had a shit game, while we got eliminated despite of a win. At the end, it was more unluck than lack of skill, because there was great offensive skill and it kinda paid off, atleast we didn't finish last in our group, unlike in 2018 (so there is a minor improvement on the paper). We did rightfully lose against Japan, I wish we won against Spain too, but like I said, having that roller-coaster in the last group-match between Costa Rica and Germany made me really uncomfortable. Did we even have chances to pass or what would happen or what is still unlikely? These questions overwhelmed me while watching against Costa Rica and against the time. At the end, I was truly sorry for Germany to get grouped.
But hey: Atleast we did only lose -3,30 points, even less than Costa Rica (-3,41) and Spain (-22,40+) at the newest FIFA-Ranking and "only" dropped by 3 places. Not like Denmark or Serbia, who dropped by 8 places.
Also, we didn't get to make a disgrace against Morocco unlike Spain did, so there are a few ups in this one.
The previous Spanish National Team Luis Enrique has told through his twitch account in several streams that he did not like the fact that Spain lost against Japan; besides why did Spain supposedly surrendered against Japan when they got a goal from the beginning and kept winning during 1st half?
On top of that, Spain did not owe anything to Germany, allow me to remind you that you did this to yourselves; the German National Team lost against Japan which automatically set up your way to be knocked out of the World Cup... Relying on "others" is certainly not the smartest decision

My only problem is that both of you kinda forgot to include the aspect of the expectations for a certain team in your rankings (for example Ifroslavia putting Morroco at 7th despite them making history by qualifying to the semi-finals while most people didn't expect them to even make it out of the groups. I also think Germany and Belgium don't deserve that high of a placement on both of your lists for simply not living up to their hype.) So that aspect created a lot of disagreements between your lists and my personal one. Im from the united states. I was pretty happy with our performance in the world cup. We went up against some crazy strong teams and Im glad we at least made it to the knockouts. I knew there was no chance of us beating the Dutch. But we did put on a great performance.
