    I've never been much into Santa's and painting carvings but your carving came out exceptionally well. And again , thank you for showing the wood carving b u r r s you use , as you carve . It is very helpful for beginners . Thanks and best wishes.

      Thanks Jay C. Yeah I tend to like wood grains to be showing. What type of carvings do you like?

    • @jayc3110
      @jayc3110 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattCarves I enjoy carving mainly wood spirit like characters with very expressive exaggerated or even grotesque faces. And on occasion strange mythical creatures.

      @@MattCarves yes, Nancy tuttles wood carvings are just awesome. There are very few like her out there. She is my absolute favorite wood carver.

    Hi Matt, great Santa! Must be weird having Christmas when its hot!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lived in hot Christmases for the majority of my life so not weird, except if you have to dress up as santa, its way to hot for that. It is weird now watching though all these youtube carving videos and its snowing and talking about snow plows etc. lol. Do you watch coffee and carving it's very amusing and interesting. How's the dragon going?

    • @clairetolmie5640
      @clairetolmie5640 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattCarves True, but it doesn't seem right not to be cold! The dragon is on hold as I'm visiting family in Southend and Glasgow but looking forward to getting back to it next week!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. That's true I still associate snow with Christmas, through popular culture. Glasgow would be cold.

    Do you have a video where you include your sanding tips? I understand that it's probably not the most exciting video content but as someone new to power carving, getting rid of those fuzzy bits what I'm finding most challenging.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alice. Sorry I don't, but I intend to make one soon. It's a great question. And definitely deserves a video. Can I ask what burrs you are using that create the fuzziness, and what is the wood you are carving?. Matt

      @@MattCarves at the moment anything I can get my hands on in terms of both burrs and timber. I'm pretty sure that my current project is from scraps of Baltic pine. I've tried cleaning up the carving with some cheep diamond burrs from eBay (I'm in Australia) but they either get clogged up or won't get into the tight spots at the right angle to get the finish I'm after.

    What characteristic must have a wood to be good for carving?

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well when it comes to power carving the choice is wider compared to hand carving. As power tools can go through harder woods. How ever woods with a tight grain and are softish are good places to start, also woods without too many knots in them. Every country has there own favorite woods depending on what is growing. CHeers
