Thank you for this detailed video. Its refreshing to hear not only the how but also the why a carving is brought to reflect life. As a beginner, I learned so much and am very appreciative.
Yes I'm trying to increase my skills and soon building my own knives and the skills show with knowledge of wood and handing knife skills and just what not should be removed Thanks 👍
This is outstanding, the detailing in the eyes and face are awesome. I am a beginner and have a long way to go to get to your standard, but I really enjoy doing the carvings. Thank you for the video lesson.
You make it look so easy but in my hands I become afraid of taking too much and ruining the whole thing. I just found your channel and it made my day!!
Great job. Love the old time look. You are giving Doug a run for his money. As you mentioned he is the man to watch carving vids for sure. I like your technique. Definitely going to give this one a try. Thanks.
Thanks for making this video, it was great. Even though it is a simple character type carving, you show some great technique from your more real life detail that you do in your larger carvings. There is so much that we can learn from this type of "character but with a bit of detail" style. Thanks again Alec.
Hey Alec fun listening to you and Doug on Friday's Coffee and Carving. Would like to see more like this video. Love how you explain as your carving. I find it addictive cutting through basswood. Sometimes I don't carve anything, just run the knife through the wood for my satisfaction lol.
Thank you Alec, I enjoyed this video and your different approach to carving a Santa face. Especially the tutorial on carving the different aspects of the face. Clear and concise.
This was awesome Alec. I like all your stuff, but I really like that you have recently showcased your versatility man. Clay, whittle, bark, bear repair lol..phenomenal
i enjoyed your carving of santa i foundi could see what you were doing clear i have watched a lot of carving and i found this one very clear thanks a lot
Alec rear nice little carving. I agree it’s fun to do that size carve and get quick results. With that basic shape you could do other carvings as well. 👍👍👍
This was an outstanding tutorial and I'm genuinely grateful. Things have been a little tough for everyone these last few years, so hobbies that can also manifest themselves as gifts are very welcome. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction as to what tools one would need as a beginner learning the woodworking craft. I'm not looking to use a lathe, but I'd be interested to know what chisels and other sculpting tools are good and going to last. Thanks to anyone who replies
9:20 into the carving, by taking a different tact it could have ended up being Cap'n Crunch.😁 Very nice and a great way to kick off the Christmas season.
Very, very nice video. The most realistic Santa I have ever seen. The references to Doug’s Santa’s are truly justifiable , however I am certain that Blake Lunsford is Santa’s personal biographical carver. There are so many positives to comment on, in your posting, but I will leave at this. Thank you very much Alec.
Alec this video and tutorial is superb. I've reallt wnjoyed watchin and listening to you. Greetings and merry Christmas from. Johannesburg South Africa.
Really fantastic carve!! I literally just found you due to someone mentioning you on another site and so glad that I did. I really enjoyed watching you carve and think I’ve already picked up some good pointers. Thank you for posting this!!
Every time I read “super easy”, I have to laugh. But would definitely like to see more like this. It really is quite satisfying to see something come to life while making cuts in the wood.
Thanks Alec dude for putting this video up! I’ve been doing santa fridge magnets for my family eh😂🙌 I’m gonna try this bro. Give Doug a high five for me would you please👍🇬🇧
Thanks for uploading all these videos, the knowledge that you and Doug give freely, got me throughout lockdowns, I help my bro who has m.s, who bought me a carving kit cuz I’d been watching videos on TH-cam!😂 found Doug, found you, learned sooo much🙌🇬🇧 I’m Steve in belfast Ireland bro, I loved the vid with Ryan Olsen eh!😂
Do you ever do what I call "shorthand flat plane" (Simplified) where all the basic shapes are left as finished. I'm always impressed by artists who can say more with less such as John Constable's sketches. Jerrod Wood does a similar approach currently. I've just Subbed to your site. ATB.
Just found you and loving this video. I probably know the answer to my own question here, but I’ve had a dabble and have to say , terrible, and the thing I notice is your knife seems to go through that wood like butter, whenever I’m trying and yes, not got great tools tbh, everything feels a big struggle. So question , do you have any recommendations for a beginner set of knifes or other gear, that won’t break the bank. Apologies because I’m guessing this question falls under your most asked. Any help would be appreciated for me to try get into this great hobby.👍
Lord willing, Jesus is coming soon for His followers. Do you worship Jesus? He loves you and died on a cross to take all the punishment for your sins. Worship Him and follow Him.
What Doug does these little cuts his little figures he’s really fast at what he does sometimes it’s hard to follow him I know that you could keep going back and watch the video but when you’re doing it you’re a more slower calmer pace don’t get me wrong Doug is awesome at what he does and so are you I like both of you guys I watch both of you guys God bless both of you
I keep watching for the blood to start spurting. Wear a glove so the people who are truly beginning see that even experience carvers protect their hands
