If you're familiar with amateur wrestling, it's sort of like that. Takedowns score points, and instead of pinfalls, you can outright win with a submission by joint-lock or choke. You also gain points by transitioning from weaker positions to stronger ones. That applies to either from bottom or top. One thing to note is that being on the bottom position isn't necessarily weaker in the sport of Brazilian Jiujitsu. You could 'pull guard' which is to say immediately pull your opponent into the guard position and still dominate. In that case, you'd be looking to chokes and joint-locks or to sweep the opponent onto the bottom (which scores points in a somewhat similar way to a takedown).

Full credit to mox for having a crack in this tournament, but it really highlights the different skills needed for pro wrestling and real wrestling.
Often times in this clip Mox was using too much force, unnecessary movements and was stiffening up a lot. I expected his cardio to be pretty good but he was overusing his energy and getting upset which was making him gas.
Hopefully he keeps training cos he could really benefit from martial arts.
Can't exactly call white belt bjj "real wrestling" lol. Any college wrestler would school both these guys.
Moxley has never been considered an athletic wrestler he's a tough guy who can work his gimmick well so I'm not surprised he has a lot of room for improvement.

Baron Corbin.

Im a Punk fan and not a Moxley fan. That said Punk 100% used his celebrity to get a seven figure deal in UFC and showed poorly. One of his top grievances for leaving WWE the first time was celebrity and PT talent getting top billing opportunities. I respect Moxley taking the time and chance to commit to this. Yes, the Jim Cornettes of the world will bash him for this and I see their point. However, we all know pro wrestling is entertainment, right? I honestly know nothing about JJ but Jon had him on the ground first, and for longer. How does someone win a match in JJ or this sport?
