bro did not include THE tutorial guy, Brackeys. Another channel that provides pretty high level overview on game mechanic implementations is Mix and Jam, they also did official videos for Unity before starting their own. from a fellow professional hater, I agree with the message at the end there ;)
Damn, JDH got done dirty. Not only did he make his own engine, he did it in C. Coughed out a 10k line level editor that looks gorgeous to work in tandem with said engine. Other than that I haven't heard of many of these. I'll have to check them out. Honorable mentions I would have to say would be DaFluffyPotato. The Pygame wizard. Couple decent tutorials under his belt, lots of jams, and he has released several games. I have learned quite a few things from him, especially when I was starting out. Also Artindi. He does dev streams on Godot pretty frequently, but he is most notable for his "How to Fail" series. Which is a comedic take on how to "Fail" at working on certain aspects of games. Funny videos, worth a look. And finally UnitOfTime. Who is in the process of making an MMO from scratch in Golang. No frameworks, nothing. He releases regular dev logs, and has his game in a pretty good state already.
yea that's fair jdh was a toughy, also I should've just put "tutorial guys" as the "second to last" tier, i think "mid" to me was more of a "good" tier or the baseline good content. So jdh is pretty high for me among the good crowd. Fluffy is sick, love his vids forgot about him when making the video haha I've seen some of Artindi, I'll check em out more I really enjoyed what I did watch. Unit of Time seems super cool too, highly technical stuff I'll have to check them out. It's interesting hearing your thoughts on gamedev youtubers cause I feel people either go super normie appeal (polymars, dani, etc. very broad and simple) or super hardcore (jdh, fluffy, way more technical etc.) and I like a blend but I think most of the ones you named are very technical which is really cool to see. I find it hard to find more technical channels so I appreciate you bringing some to my attention. Cheers!
Thomas Brush has very polished content, but I cant stand in his interviews how he spends half the episode rambling about his own games and not just letting the people he brings on talk.
You should checkout Cheddar. His channel only has 2k subscribers and he's been making a rocket jumping game for over a year now. He really goes in-depth about his design decisions and technical problems.
just scrubbed thorugh some Gorka vids, I'd probably put him in swamp for being so youtuber (like a subscribe!!), but other than that he seems very tutorial oriented and seems to help lots of people based on the comments so that's cool. I'd never heard of him before
@@dogma.questlog wait really and i would also recommend watching Andrew Cunningham's 3 videos on ram as while that isnt a game dev channel the game devlogs are the best i have seen
@@dogma.questlog glad you like him i have been a fan of theres for a long while and i am glad i got others on the hype train. also on a different note andrew cunningham has four devlogs that are great but he isnt a game dev channel in the slightest
How do you not include Thomas brush ? one of the OGs in TH-cam , who compared to a few I see on the list has 2 published titles , working on a 3rd and helps the community. Also brackys literally everyone dad in unity who doesn’t know him , Unreal sensei , Top guide on UE5. Game dev unlocked . Just to name a few . This is a list of entertainers game devs mainly , and most here don’t have successful game launches. So to me this list is missing key devs and it shouldn’t consist of real devs not TH-cam click baiters with no success titles .
I'll take mid any day! ;)
haha thanks for checking it out, loved your java rpg vid, and dewdrop is looking clean!

Thoughts on Gorka Games 🤔
Miz is so talented and tries such unique things.. just never really dug his style of games. Might try that desert shooter though.
