Hi Tammy, Boy does this bring back a lot of 0ld memories. I am 71 when I was around 11 this was the first thing I ever made, back then we just used left over mashed potatoes. I used my hands to mix it together. Sure made a big mess but got it all together and everyone loved it. I really loved cooking back then (still do) We lived out in the country and there was a field of cotton right off our back yard and my mama was picking cotton out back. I used to get to cook while she picking cotton in that patch. One morning she told me to mix up a cake mix and she said be sure and bake it in the bottom shelf. Will I did just that ... I baked it in the bottom shelf which turned out to be the Broiler. The gas stoves back then had a drawer on the bottom which was where the broiler was located. My mom said she could smell that cake all the way out in the cotton patch. She talked and laughed about that cake until the day she went to heaven. I sure do miss my Mama.
I lost my grandmothers at an early age and didn’t get to experience cooking with them but I heard about them always cooking. It’s nice to see how they would have done things. Thanks so much for sharing. A blessing for sure. ❤️

Tammy- We used to take leftover mashed potatoes, powdered sugar, and coconut. Maybe a tablespoon of cream. Make “Easter Eggs” and dipped them in melted white or milk chocolate ganache. Really takes me back!
So nice, I used to make this with my mom years ago. We used a fork and smashed it up🤗 so so good and sweet. Thanks for bringing back memories ❤️🙏Christy from Virginia
Mrs.Tammy, thank you for sharing this video with us all. My dear sweet mother and grandmother and mother-in-law,made this candy for the grandkids for Christmas 🎄. May God rest their souls 🙏. My great grandmother usually came to our house for Christmas because my grandmother lived with us, and she and my grandmother made this every year for Christmas. They never boiled the potatoes either. It was always SO GOOD.
I’ve always heard about potato candy now you showed me how to do it I think I’m going to also try it with Nutella that might be a different change of pace might be good thanks Tammy
Yum! Every Thanksgiving and Christmas I make these. My mother in-law taught my ex and he taught me. What a wonderful mother in-law she was. I make mine with confectioners sugar, little whole milk, then peanut butter. My family asks me to make these. Old fashioned is usually always better.
You guys are so clever , really bring nostalgic and cheery: loving it. Very lonesome after spending a week with Vicky and Gran kids. Too quiet. Love your interruption. One of My sisters used to make his for all our holidays . Mmm makes me hungry I thanks Tammy . I'm willing to bet my kiddos love this
Hey Tammy, O MY WORD, I am 55 my mother taught me how to make this Potato Candy way back when I was a child. At Christmas time we would also put red or green food coloring in it. Thanks for bringing back a memory.
My mama always used the leftover mashed potatoes from the night before. They either became potato candy the next day or potato cakes for the next nights supper. Sure do miss her cooking. 😪
My mommy made this every Christmas. I make it for my family because it's what mommy taught me and the memories make me feel close to her. ❤ Tammy I'm not getting my notifications from you and I don't understand why. I miss you so I go to your channel and you have been cooking the whole time and I wasn't notified.
Just wanted to thank you for your wonderful channel. Your smiles, your fun personality, and the wonderful recipes you give us are such a blessing! Thank you for really making a quality video every time. Merry Christmas!
Hey Neighbor! As you know, it's 75 degrees outside. I really don't want to fire up my oven; if I don't have to. So, my question is can I do this candy with boiled potatoes and let them drain well? Thank you for sharing this recipe!!!😘
This is how my grandma, mom, and I make potato candy. We boil with the peel on because that is how my grandma did it. We peeled it then used a potato masher to mash and mix the ingredients with the exception of peanut butter of course.
My mom made this all the time. Was a holiday favorite cause no one else on either side had ever heard of it. And it DOES slice a little easier if you chill it for about 30 min before slicing. Also, although we all did prefer jiff, she found that Skippy peanut butter would spread a bit easier.
I have never had this candy before. I will have to make some to give it a try. Our work Christmas party is coming up and our church Christmas party also. Will have to try it out. Thank you for an easy recipe for candy.
Ditto for me just like the poster before me,I'm the same age. My mother made these when I was a child living in North Alabama. What great memories these bring! Love your graphics and holiday colors! Chris and you do a great job on the presentations. You brightened my day today, thank you so much!!
Tammy thank you for doing latest video, because my mommy had to have potato candy every year and my husband that passed away and he came into the family he ended up just as crazy about as my mommy was. But with all the family matriarchs in my family gone home to be with God, this just brought back some memories for me special one’s so Thank you and God bless.
This is a really good and tasty but rich candy to make. Very easy and you don’t need to refrigerate it unless you like it firmer. Mom taught us how to make this candy around the holidays. I believe they would call it poor man’s candy. I guess it’s when you only had potatoes and wanted to make candy and couldn’t afford anything that they came up with the recipe, I’m not sure. But it is delicious if you like peanut butter and sweets.
My word. I have never heard of anyone making this potato candy. My stepmother taught me to make it back in the 50s when i was a yound teen. I make it a little different, but imagine they taste the same. Oh fun.
I have been watching 🥔 🍬 Potato Candy recipes for a year and finally made it! Delicious. I have a question for you though, what would hou think about swapping 50% of the powder sugar for whole Milk powder? (Healthier) Maybe😁
Wow. I have never heard of potato candy before. Whenever we ate pinwheels, it was made from pastry scraps, rolled, painted with butter, sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon. Then baked to make a pastry. Those potato candies would be great after a workout, haha. :). Thank you, Tammy! Love ya in red! :)
I’ve never heard of these candies but they sound delicious. I’m going to make them for Thanksgiving. I’m curious about your mixer. What brand is it? I’ve never seen one like it.
My mom would make this for me when I wanted something sweet. She didn’t add the potatoes, though. She used a little milk with the powdered sugar. I watched her make this for me a couple times. I bet it would taste good with potatoes. I miss my mama too, Tammy.
I just ran across your video today. My husband said he grew up eating this and I’m looking for a recipe. My question is….. what kind of mixer is this? I really like the look of it.
An easy way to cut this so you get beautiful slices is taking unflavored dental floss, sliding it up under the log, then pulling up the ends whenever you want to make a cut. A little potato candy guillotine, if you will.
Mrs . Tammy I loved making these . One day one nephew asked me Tia meaning auntie can u do Nutella in stead of peanut 🥜 butter .?? I said sure .o my it was good .
