The sacrificial nature of their love for each other is incredibly evident. It's a very beautiful representation of the essence of love, the giving of oneself mutually between two individuals. Even more evident is it in Aerith where, in a sense, she is putting her own desires to death for the sake of the ones she loves, especially Cloud. Perhaps, in part 3, Love finds a way beyond death and conquers it and results in their eventual reunion. Perhaps the phrase "love never fails" or Aerith's words in the loveles play "love conquers all" accurately describes this in contrast to the sheer hatred and emptiness of Sephiroth. Great analysis!

As is also mentioned in this video, the Sector 5 Church being Cloud and Aerith's "Spot" is also referenced in FF7 AC where Cloud has been living in the Church after he contracts Geostigma. His desire to be close/reunited with Aerith affects him so much that he chooses to live alone in "their spot" and away from everyone else.

My reasoning is derived from the fact that earlier in the date when you get to “choose” a gift for Aerith, no matter what, she ends up with the yellow lily pin and she attaches it to her coat. This is the only time we get an actual physical distinction between Aeriths. As a literary device, it seems like the devs really want us to be able to make that distinction in the future for whatever reason. I’m pretty confident we will see Aerith with the lily pin in the final game._* 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
Yeah I believe so too! Otherwise it would be a bit strange to differentiate both of the Aerith's 🤔 who knows, maybe lily pin Aerith is the one that saves Remake Aerith somehow- so she can live. Since the worlds can part and unite- like Sephiroth said 🎉
Another excellent video! Great catch on the doors with Sephiroth. The only thing I’ll add at the end, about how it looked like his mere presence pushed open the doors…it could have also been Aerith letting the doors open and accepting her fate, and possibly in another effort to try to keep him from Cloud. We know he does end up finding Cloud in the lifestream seconds later, but to me it still felt like an extra effort to keep them separated as she tried to send Cloud back to the Remake world. The white whispers also surround him after he drops into the lifestream to try and protect and escort him back, before Sephiroth’s black whispers push them away.
Thank you!! Oh totally 🤩 I can see that happening! There's definitely a special few white whispers which seems like Aerith is in control of. Even though the ones I scanned during combat said that they were the planets whispers basically, trying to not change fate if I remember correctly.
@@SlashterpieceGaming they are, but that’s also why it makes sense that they can work with Aerith and help her. She’s a protector of the planet as well, as the Cetra were told to us to have been. She serves the planet in a way similar to the white whispers intended purpose, which is why we see them with her many times. Sephiroth is Jenova’s warrior in the lifestream, and Aerith is the Planet’s. The whispers for each side can be seen as pawns in their chess game for control of the lifestream and the fate of the world itself. The other pieces in play are the rest of the cast (Barret, Tifa, Yuffie, etc. for the Planet and the Shinra execs and robed men for Jenova), with Cloud being the one pulled between the two sides because of his connections with them both. Obviously one is an unwanted connection, but that doesn’t make it any less strong.
Wooow really it is very important the relationship between the couple, Aerith and Cloud in that point were really close but seppiroth ruin everything. Aerith really is an angel and a cute person, with a soul that want to protect everyone for the evil. The huge scene shows how Cloud loves Aerith and how Aerith knows Cloud. Really Aerith is the best character in FF7 with no doubt

@Slashterpiece, in the FF7 Remake Ultimania, it's said that Sephiroth appears in 4 different ways. Cited from the translated FF7 Remake Ultimania: 1 - an illusion that only Cloud can see. 2 - black-hooded figures that are seen as Sephiroth. 3 - recollection, Sephiroth of the past. 4 - a question mark explained as Sephiroth that can be seen by others beside Cloud and is not one of the black-hooded men. This question mark Sephiroth is the one that appears at the end of the Midgar Expressway during the end of the game. I recommend you check out FF7 Ever Crisis The First Soldier as that has a lot of to do with Sephiroth in his earlier -and- later years in SOLDIER, and there are a few scenes from that that connect that Sephiroth directly to Sephiroth at the edge of creation. I'm really thinking that this Sephiroth from Ever Crisis is the same as the one see at the Edge of Creation, most specifically in FF7 Remake. Even the FF7 Rebirth opening at the 20 second mark, we see a black and white feather, the only place we see that - ever in the Remake Trilogy so far. I'm thinking that the white feathers we see at various points in Rebirth are -the real Cloud- who then takes Sephiroth's hand and they're joined together AC style. The opening movie of Rebirth is showing what happened in the world where Cloud did take Sephiroth's hand and that's why he disappeared. The main party from Remake are the ones on the stretchers. The Aerith that Zack saves at the start of Rebirth is infact Remake Aerith. The world shift at the end of Remake looks like it was locally contained to just Midgar itself, so the future memories that Remake Aerith left with Marlene are still intact. Now a Zack who survived w/ a slightly younger pre-FF7 Cloud is brought together at Aerith's house with an unconscious Remake Aerith. If Zack cures Cloud earlier. And he wakes up before Aerith and he wakes her up. -> That could mean since Cloud in part 3 will have Holy on him, the memories could shift and the past and the future will change. Just like we saw with the benches and flower bed disappearing in the church. Just like we saw with what happened when Cloud saved Aerith at the altar in the Forgotten Capitol.

I have never seen anyone else to point that out. You are right. This is a remake, not a remaster. Aerith's fate is still uncertain. Even if the main world Aerith dies there are different worlds where her fate could be different.
I also wonder if Sephiroth wants to kill Aerith or not. Since killing her doesn't let him win, Aerith defeats his plans using the lifestream anyway, even by being dead.
I love watching your analysis videos. They always brighten my day. You have such a great understanding of the characters, it's refreshing to see. In the no date scene, Cloud calls Aerith his nakama, which means something like comrade. Of course, Clotis tried to twist it to mean he friendzoned her😒 But honestly? That's not friendzoning someone. In the TV series Hannibal, Hannibal & Will are canon & Will has called himself Hannibal's nakama, so that doesn't exclude a romantic relationship at all😁 The only difference between the two scenes is that Cloud is unsure about Aerith's feelings in one and confident about it in the other one. Their feelings for each other remain the same in both scenes. I really wish the English translation would have made it clear that Aerith is wondering about what kind of like she feels. I love the hug and Aerith saying "thank you" to Cloud. 1. I love contrast between Cloud hugging Tifa & Aerith. In Tifa's resolution scene, it took him like 20 seconds to hug Tifa back and he cared more about being her hero than comforting her😭 Meanwhile, he immediately reacted with Aerith. Not to mention, by reciprocating the hug, he returned her feelings. 2. I'm a huge fan of the "thank you" parallels between Cloud & Aerith and Tidus & Yuna🥰 I wanted to share an interview in regards to this topic: "And yet", said Smith, "arigatou' has connotations that go beyond the phrasebook definition of 'thanks.' Literally meaning 'there was much difficulty,' the word encompasses a sense of shared experience. If the patriarch of a family was on his death bed, looking up at his children and grand-children, the word he might say in Japanese is 'arigatou.' It has the weight, and finality in this case, that we associate with the words 'I love you' in English." This is why Yuna saying "thank you" to Tidus in FFX was localized as "I love you". I also got some info in regards to the church. Toriyama: There is a large river that runs outside of Sector 5, which allows for a lot of the lifestream to also run underneath Aerith's house and the rundown church, creating very clean water. Aerith uses this water to carefully raise the flowers. Since Aerith is an Ancient, perhaps she has the power to attract natural water and flowers. This also explains why the flowers healed Tifa & Cloud when they were lying in them in AC. Perhaps they also healed Cloud that way in the OG and Remake, when he fell into the church🤔 That is most likely the reason, why the water there in AC is able to cure Geostigma. Suffice to say, it's a very important place in the story of FFVII. I truly hope Cloud & Aerith will reunite in part 3🙏 Give us a happy ending for them. And considering Cloud's history with rejection as a kid, of course he's going to try and shield himself. I completely agree with you about Nakama. They also always leave out that he asks "We're comrades, right?" So it wasn't said as a statement. Cloud's jealousy is a subplot between him and Aerith. It makes sense that Cloud is still unsettled if he's never heard anything different from Aerith.
Thank you for this wonderfull video and your amazing insight. In Rebirth they have mentioned that materia is filled with human emotions and memories. RE Aerith's materia lost it's color when whispers took away her memories of Cloud from their past life (OG), the things she was thanking him for in this church scene. Now that Cloud has the hollow materia (fitting name isn't it), I hope once he will eventually recollect himself, regain all of his memories, he will realise his feelings for Aerith and thus hollow materia will be restored with his love. Then he will use it to bring her back somehow. Wouldn''t that be a beautiful way of finishing the story ("she saved me, I saved her... round and round it goes").

I never thought like that and I like it more then my theory which was that Sephiroth lives in Cloud memories as it was mentioned in AC and confirmed with Remake/Rebirth. So I thought that maybe the hollow one will be used to seal Sephiroth off in it as his eternal prison, but your theory is much better and I’m on it 100%

The way the scene changes when the rainbow appears makes me think to a VR thing. We got plenty of VR in the game; Chadley, Shinra movie, Temple of the ancient, Gold Saucer ... Maybe a parallel here.

And The image of Cloud and Aerith lying down in one of the interlude scenes, with a close-up on their faces, gave me the impression that something was happening in their minds. And another thing, I think Cloud has some sort of power as well. The way Chadley talks to him, in particular, he seems special but just because of him being a "SOLDIER" ? I'm not sure. The last scene of the Protorelic like an Noha Ark Plus, there's always that mystery, compared to the original, of how Cloud managed to survive Sephiroth and throw him into the mako. If we go back when Marlene explains how Aerith is gonna die and Zack, despite knowing who the scary man is, doesn't say Sephiroth's name. Then the "scene" happens we got the description of Marlene unfolding in front us; Aerith opens her eyes, smiling and then the "scary man" appears. In French and in Japanese Cloud yells " Sephiroth !" just before deflecting his attack ( in English he says "No !") . Like if he is answering to Marleen description. I can't stop thinking about those connection between different worlds/selfs that can influence each others. thank you

There is liking and then there's…liking. Yes, friends also can have "our spot". But the way Aerith and Cloud were talking about "our spot" it was definitely not friends' "our spot", it was lovers' "our spot". I find it hard to believe that Aerith here is from this dying world. If Cloud is in a coma in this world, and it looks like it, it means that he was brought by Zack to Aerith's home. So, Aerith of this world should not know Cloud, unless she had experienced their journey through the lifestream somehow? Is it possible that it's OG Aerith? Sephiroth does say that Cloud and Aerith are hiding in this world. Maybe Sephiroth is hunting not for Aerith, but for Holy?
Well one thing is for sure, there are multiple worlds so they might also be different from the Remake world. How Cloud ended up in Aerith's house with his soldier outfit is very strange! But it makes it that much more interesting as well 😹 part 3 is gonna be wild

Thank you, great video! I never noticed the Church looked different after Aerith pushes cloud into the portal, wow! For me, I always wondered why Sephiroth bothered to go to the Church. It was a doomed world with a sky rift, Aerith was going to die and Holy be destroyed soon regardless. But I worry for Sephy, every SOLDIER that entered that church developed a crush on Aerith, so watch out Sephy haha!
I feel like knowing that Aerith and Red both had some ability of seeing the future up to a point plus the impending doom of knowing that world is ending, as well as Sephiroth was coming for her, adding in with knowing Cloud is in a sort of mental limbo with others telling him they’ve been looking for the real him, Aerith realizes she needs to appeal to Clouds humanity and empathy, as those things are the only things stopping him from being a Sephiroth clone and she needs him to be the counter force to Sephiroth’s negative energy. So Tifa and Aerith must have at points communicated to keep Cloud on the good path, as shown in Gongaga when she mouthed to Tifa ‘keep Cloud moving’
Wow, how are you so good at this? You really have a special gift. I didn't know this had different dialog if you don't get an Aerith date. Okay so the door thing, I watched it several times and even slowed it down. It is very apparent that Seph pulls it open at first, but it's really hard to see exactly what's happening the second time. I mean it almost looks like he pulled it open there as well and just let it swing open. I went back and looked when Reno comes in, but you can't tell which way the door opens there. Do we ever see the church door open any other time? I don't know Slash, it's not super clear to me that the door opens differently. What makes you think that? I really have no idea what world that takes place in, or even how Cloud ended up there. It's super confusing to me, hopefully we will find out in the next one. But I really did enjoy this vid, this is one of my favorite scenes in the whole game. You did a wonderful job of analyzing it. Thank you!! It could definitely be an optical illusion if you look at it too much, but if you check how the pattern on the door changes perspective, it's being pushed open. And he doesn't have outstretched arms either while this happens. Maybe I see it because I used to draw a lot 😹 so drawing things in different perspectives makes it easier for me to see these things. But also when the door is pushed open, you can see that its inside of the church if you check the top and how it bends. Same! It's one of my favorite scenes as well. Thanks! Have a great week 💖

The flower bed really does seem to be a conduit between worlds - Zack travels through it already. Rainbow effect apparently happens when someone with a strong will creates a new world through their actions/decisions. Zack does this, apparently Aerith, and I would argue Cloud did when he broke his OG trance and "blocked" the sword. Think of the lyrics to NPTK: "Till the day that we meet again, *at our place*..." I guess fitting that a garden is a wormhole?
Multiverse is weird. Hard to understand. Anyway, I went back to check the gameplays and noticed there are many different Stamps. I guess that can be used as distinctions for the different worlds. I count 5. 1: From the remake world. The one we know. Not sure if it includes Rebirth as I don't remember seeing one in the game. 2: From the dream date. Can be seen during Cloud picking a gift for Aerith as a figurine and picking candy in the wrapper's cover. 3: From Zack choosing to find a cure for Cloud. Seen during Zack contemplating to choose a route in the trainway and appeared on the wall. 4: From Zack choosing to find Biggs in the reactor. Seen during Biggs eating snack and appeared in the wrapper cover. 5: From Zack sitting on the church's stair. Seen during Johnny passing by and carrying a Stamp plushie. There's another one when Zack reached the Shinra tower, on the glass of the reception but looks familiar to the third one. So I'm not gonna include it
Might even be an entirely new one since Aerith seemed to shift Cloud and herself to another world 🙀 and we don't know what stamp that is. Remake is the beagle stamp one, we also see the beagle plushie in Rebirth when we are at the Gold Saucer (plushie shop is selling that dog plushie). I'm not good with dogs but I got my friends to check what kind of dog breeds the photos look like that I sent 😹🎉 she was confused about the one that Johnny was holding tho, so it might not be a Shiba. I agree, it's really hard to piece everything together when there are different worlds but I'm positive part 3 will do that.
Excellent analysis, thank you Slasherpiece! I wanted to also point out, that the dream date with Aerith and Cloud has a different dog than Sephiroth's interaction with Zack outside the church. In short, the Sephiroth that interacted with Zack is not the same Sephiroth who we saw enter the church from Cloud's pov. And nice find spotting how Sephiroth opens the door different when we see him when he's outside and when he enters, its a different world, different dogs, different states of Sephiroth. Edit: Oh my---- You figured it out. Another great find! I saw this so countless times, and I was perplexed as I noticed how the benches disappeared- could be another visual indication of how the worlds shifted. I'd love to hear your analysis on the events at the Sleeping Forest, and the Forgotten Capitol. Pay special attention to the ending credits, too. What we see is not there; that may just be another world and another main party. I don't think we're saying "goodbye" to Aerith, I think she is saying "Goodbye" to the party because that's the only part of the Tiny Bronco scene that's in the credits. So our levels and equipment are not going to carry over to part, so the question becomes which main party are we going to play with? Edit 2: Also note, when Aerith and Cloud are trying to get their pictures as the cutest couple taken, Aerith says "We don't have any either!", she says this even when you take the selfie together in the Celestial Phenomenon quest. And one more thing, in Cloud and Aerith's meeting at Costa del Sol on the beach, she talks holds her hands behind her as she says that Cloud will love her future self. And then here in the church her body language with her holding her hands behind her suggests that this Aerith in the dream date is 'future Aerith'. So maybe Aerith saying , "We don't have any pictures either!" was just a means to get more pictures with Cloud.

I think the meaning is roughly the same but the nuance gets less important about liking when you know that for Aerith, it is less of a confession than a last heartfelt goodbye to Cloud. It goes from "I like you but I won't clearly tell you if it's as family, close friend or as a lover" to "Know that I like you for who you are and how I do is not important anymore, I needed you to know and brace yourself with as much love you can muster for what will happen."

In the japanese version, the no date scene its Cloud using the "nakama" expression, its a clear distiction as a coleague or friend, in a no romantic way.
Yeah, and what's interesting is that Aerith's response to him saying "nakama dakara na" ("because we're comrades") is exactly the same as her response to the "HA" version of the scene. She replies that she "knows now, where you and I stand" in both versions, meaning that the context is precisely the same: Cloud loves Aerith as a friend and no more, and Aerith understands that while at last coming to terms with her own feelings, letting go of the fantasy. Which she then admits to herself and Cloud right after: that she "really likes" Cloud "but there's liking and there's liking" - i.e. this liking for Cloud is not indeed that of the love she still harbors for Zack. Zack even frames this entire "dream" of Aerith's as she herself calls it. Many people are going to be very shocked in Part 3 due to misunderstanding the writing.

In CC Aerith was Midgar bound. Zack though of the church as a place to meet Aerith but Cloud? TBH he could be living in the city of the ancients in AC for that matter. He had a life altering world wide travel with Aerith. The church is only a place of their second meeting. OR.... Cloud also has some memory of the past. The sacrificial nature of their love for each other is incredibly evident. It's a very beautiful representation of the essence of love, the giving of oneself mutually between two individuals. Even more evident is it in Aerith where, in a sense, she is putting her own desires to death for the sake of the ones she loves, especially Cloud. Perhaps, in part 3, Love finds a way beyond death and conquers it and results in their eventual reunion. Perhaps the phrase "love never fails" or Aerith's words in the loveles play "love conquers all" accurately describes this in contrast to the sheer hatred and emptiness of Sephiroth. Great analysis!

As is also mentioned in this video, the Sector 5 Church being Cloud and Aerith's "Spot" is also referenced in FF7 AC where Cloud has been living in the Church after he contracts Geostigma. His desire to be close/reunited with Aerith affects him so much that he chooses to live alone in "their spot" and away from everyone else.

My reasoning is derived from the fact that earlier in the date when you get to “choose” a gift for Aerith, no matter what, she ends up with the yellow lily pin and she attaches it to her coat. This is the only time we get an actual physical distinction between Aeriths. As a literary device, it seems like the devs really want us to be able to make that distinction in the future for whatever reason. Another excellent video! Great catch on the doors with Sephiroth. The only thing I’ll add at the end, about how it looked like his mere presence pushed open the doors…it could have also been Aerith letting the doors open and accepting her fate, and possibly in another effort to try to keep him from Cloud. We know he does end up finding Cloud in the lifestream seconds later, but to me it still felt like an extra effort to keep them separated as she tried to send Cloud back to the Remake world. The white whispers also surround him after he drops into the lifestream to try and protect and escort him back, before Sephiroth’s black whispers push them away.

Oh totally 🤩 I can see that happening! There's definitely a special few white whispers which seems like Aerith is in control of. Even though the ones I scanned during combat said that they were the planets whispers basically, trying to not change fate if I remember correctly.
@@SlashterpieceGaming they are, but that’s also why it makes sense that they can work with Aerith and help her. She’s a protector of the planet as well, as the Cetra were told to us to have been. She serves the planet in a way similar to the white whispers intended purpose, which is why we see them with her many times. Sephiroth is Jenova’s warrior in the lifestream, and Aerith is the Planet’s. The whispers for each side can be seen as pawns in their chess game for control of the lifestream and the fate of the world itself. The other pieces in play are the rest of the cast (Barret, Tifa, Yuffie, etc. for the Planet and the Shinra execs and robed men for Jenova), with Cloud being the one pulled between the two sides because of his connections with them both. Obviously one is an unwanted connection, but that doesn’t make it any less strong.
Wooow really it is very important the relationship between the couple, Aerith and Cloud in that point were really close but seppiroth ruin everything.
Aerith really is an angel and a cute person, with a soul that want to protect everyone for the evil. The huge scene shows how Cloud loves Aerith and how Aerith knows Cloud.

Cited from the translated FF7 Remake Ultimania:
1 - an illusion that only Cloud can see.
2 - black-hooded figures that are seen as Sephiroth.
3 - recollection, Sephiroth of the past.
4 - a question mark explained as Sephiroth that can be seen by others beside Cloud and is not one of the black-hooded men. This question mark Sephiroth is the one that appears at the end of the Midgar Expressway during the end of the game.
I recommend you check out FF7 Ever Crisis The First Soldier as that has a lot of to do with Sephiroth in his earlier -and- later years in SOLDIER, and there are a few scenes from that that connect that Sephiroth directly to Sephiroth at the edge of creation. I'm really thinking that this Sephiroth from Ever Crisis is the same as the one see at the Edge of Creation, most specifically in FF7 Remake. Even the FF7 Rebirth opening at the 20 second mark, we see a black and white feather, the only place we see that - ever in the Remake Trilogy so far.
I'm thinking that the white feathers we see at various points in Rebirth are -the real Cloud- who then takes Sephiroth's hand and they're joined together AC style. The opening movie of Rebirth is showing what happened in the world where Cloud did take Sephiroth's hand and that's why he disappeared. The main party from Remake are the ones on the stretchers. The Aerith that Zack saves at the start of Rebirth is infact Remake Aerith. The world shift at the end of Remake looks like it was locally contained to just Midgar itself, so the future memories that Remake Aerith left with Marlene are still intact. Now a Zack who survived w/ a slightly younger pre-FF7 Cloud is brought together at Aerith's house with an unconscious Remake Aerith.
If Zack cures Cloud earlier. And he wakes up before Aerith and he wakes her up. -> That could mean since Cloud in part 3 will have Holy on him, the memories could shift and the past and the future will change. Just like we saw with the benches and flower bed disappearing in the church. Just like we saw with what happened when Cloud saved Aerith at the altar in the Forgotten Capitol.

In the no date scene, Cloud calls Aerith his nakama, which means something like comrade. Of course, Clotis tried to twist it to mean he friendzoned her😒
But honestly? That's not friendzoning someone. In the TV series Hannibal, Hannibal & Will are canon & Will has called himself Hannibal's nakama, so that doesn't exclude a romantic relationship at all😁
The only difference between the two scenes is that Cloud is unsure about Aerith's feelings in one and confident about it in the other one. Their feelings for each other remain the same in both scenes.
I really wish the English translation would have made it clear that Aerith is wondering about what kind of like she feels.

1. I love contrast between Cloud hugging Tifa & Aerith. In Tifa's resolution scene, it took him like 20 seconds to hug Tifa back and he cared more about being her hero than comforting her😭
Meanwhile, he immediately reacted with Aerith. Not to mention, by reciprocating the hug, he returned her feelings.
2. I'm a huge fan of the "thank you" parallels between Cloud & Aerith and Tidus & Yuna🥰
I wanted to share an interview in regards to this topic:

Literally meaning 'there was much difficulty,' the word encompasses a sense of shared experience. If the patriarch of a family was on his death bed, looking up at his children and grand-children, the word he might say in Japanese is 'arigatou.' It has the weight, and finality in this case, that we associate with the words 'I love you' in English."
This is why Yuna saying "thank you" to Tidus in FFX was localized as "I love you".
I also got some info in regards to the church.
Toriyama: There is a large river that runs outside of Sector 5, which allows for a lot of the lifestream to also run underneath Aerith's house and the rundown church, creating very clean water. Aerith uses this water to carefully raise the flowers. Since Aerith is an Ancient, perhaps she has the power to attract natural water and flowers.
This also explains why the flowers healed Tifa & Cloud when they were lying in them in AC. Perhaps they also healed Cloud that way in the OG and Remake, when he fell into the church🤔
That is most likely the reason, why the water there in AC is able to cure Geostigma. Suffice to say, it's a very important place in the story of FFVII.
I truly hope Cloud & Aerith will reunite in part 3🙏

Oh absolutely, it's not 'friendzoning' anyone. It makes sense why Cloud would try to distance himself because he's not really aware of Aerith's feelings for him. And considering Cloud's history with rejection as a kid, of course he's going to try and shield himself. But it only works to a point, because you can't really choose who you fall for, or how fast you fall.

I completely agree with you about Nakama. They also always leave out that he asks "We're comrades, right?" So it wasn't said as a statement. Cloud's jealousy is a subplot between him and Aerith. It makes sense that Cloud is still unsettled if he's never heard anything different from Aerith.

In Rebirth they have mentioned that materia is filled with human emotions and memories. RE Aerith's materia lost it's color when whispers took away her memories of Cloud from their past life (OG), the things she was thanking him for in this church scene. Now that Cloud has the hollow materia (fitting name isn't it), I hope once he will eventually recollect himself, regain all of his memories, he will realise his feelings for Aerith and thus hollow materia will be restored with his love. Then he will use it to bring her back somehow. Wouldn''t that be a beautiful way of finishing the story ("she saved me, I saved her... round and round it goes").

I never thought like that and I like it more then my theory which was that Sephiroth lives in Cloud memories as it was mentioned in AC and confirmed with Remake/Rebirth. So I thought that maybe the hollow one will be used to seal Sephiroth off in it as his eternal prison, but your theory is much better and I’m on it 100%

And another thing, I think Cloud has some sort of power as well. The way Chadley talks to him, in particular, he seems special but just because of him being a "SOLDIER" ? I'm not sure. The last scene of the Protorelic like an Noha Ark
Plus, there's always that mystery, compared to the original, of how Cloud managed to survive Sephiroth and throw him into the mako.
If we go back when Marlene explains how Aerith is gonna die and Zack, despite knowing who the scary man is, doesn't say Sephiroth's name. Then the "scene" happens we got the description of Marlene unfolding in front us; Aerith opens her eyes, smiling and then the "scary man" appears.
In French and in Japanese Cloud yells " Sephiroth !" just before deflecting his attack ( in English he says "No !") . Like if he is answering to Marleen description. I can't stop thinking about those connection between different worlds/selfs that can influence each others.

I find it hard to believe that Aerith here is from this dying world. If Cloud is in a coma in this world, and it looks like it, it means that he was brought by Zack to Aerith's home. So, Aerith of this world should not know Cloud, unless she had experienced their journey through the lifestream somehow? Is it possible that it's OG Aerith? Sephiroth does say that Cloud and Aerith are hiding in this world.

I feel like knowing that Aerith and Red both had some ability of seeing the future up to a point plus the impending doom of knowing that world is ending, as well as Sephiroth was coming for her, adding in with knowing Cloud is in a sort of mental limbo with others telling him they’ve been looking for the real him, Aerith realizes she needs to appeal to Clouds humanity and empathy, as those things are the only things stopping him from being a Sephiroth clone and she needs him to be the counter force to Sephiroth’s negative energy. So Tifa and Aerith must have at points communicated to keep Cloud on the good path, as shown in Gongaga when she mouthed to Tifa ‘keep Cloud moving’

Wow, how are you so good at this? You really have a special gift. I didn't know this had different dialog if you don't get an Aerith date. Okay so the door thing, I watched it several times and even slowed it down. It is very apparent that Seph pulls it open at first, but it's really hard to see exactly what's happening the second time. I mean it almost looks like he pulled it open there as well and just let it swing open. I went back and looked when Reno comes in, but you can't tell which way the door opens there. Do we ever see the church door open any other time? I don't know Slash, it's not super clear to me that the door opens differently. What makes you think that? I really have no idea what world that takes place in, or even how Cloud ended up there. It's super confusing to me, hopefully we will find out in the next one. But I really did enjoy this vid, this is one of my favorite scenes in the whole game. You did a wonderful job of analyzing it. Thank you!! It could definitely be an optical illusion if you look at it too much, but if you check how the pattern on the door changes perspective, it's being pushed open. And he doesn't have outstretched arms either while this happens.
Maybe I see it because I used to draw a lot 😹 so drawing things in different perspectives makes it easier for me to see these things. But also when the door is pushed open, you can see that its inside of the church if you check the top and how it bends.

The flower bed really does seem to be a conduit between worlds - Zack travels through it already. Rainbow effect apparently happens when someone with a strong will creates a new world through their actions/decisions. Zack does this, apparently Aerith, and I would argue Cloud did when he broke his OG trance and "blocked" the sword. Think of the lyrics to NPTK: "Till the day that we meet again, *at our place*..." I guess fitting that a garden is a wormhole?
Multiverse is weird. Hard to understand. Anyway, I went back to check the gameplays and noticed there are many different Stamps. I guess that can be used as distinctions for the different worlds. I count 5.
1: From the remake world. The one we know. Not sure if it includes Rebirth as I don't remember seeing one in the game.
2: From the dream date. Can be seen during Cloud picking a gift for Aerith as a figurine and picking candy in the wrapper's cover.
3: From Zack choosing to find a cure for Cloud. Seen during Zack contemplating to choose a route in the trainway and appeared on the wall.
4: From Zack choosing to find Biggs in the reactor. Seen during Biggs eating snack and appeared in the wrapper cover.
5: From Zack sitting on the church's stair. Seen during Johnny passing by and carrying a Stamp plushie.
There's another one when Zack reached the Shinra tower, on the glass of the reception but looks familiar to the third one. So I'm not gonna include it
Might even be an entirely new one since Aerith seemed to shift Cloud and herself to another world 🙀 and we don't know what stamp that is. Remake is the beagle stamp one, we also see the beagle plushie in Rebirth when we are at the Gold Saucer (plushie shop is selling that dog plushie).

In short, the Sephiroth that interacted with Zack is not the same Sephiroth who we saw enter the church from Cloud's pov. I saw this so countless times, and I was perplexed as I noticed how the benches disappeared- could be another visual indication of how the worlds shifted. I'd love to hear your analysis on the events at the Sleeping Forest, and the Forgotten Capitol. Pay special attention to the ending credits, too. What we see is not there; that may just be another world and another main party. I don't think we're saying "goodbye" to Aerith, I think she is saying "Goodbye" to the party because that's the only part of the Tiny Bronco scene that's in the credits. So our levels and equipment are not going to carry over to part, so the question becomes which main party are we going to play with?
Edit 2: Also note, when Aerith and Cloud are trying to get their pictures as the cutest couple taken, Aerith says "We don't have any either!", she says this even when you take the selfie together in the Celestial Phenomenon quest. And one more thing, in Cloud and Aerith's meeting at Costa del Sol on the beach, she talks holds her hands behind her as she says that Cloud will love her future self. And then here in the church her body language with her holding her hands behind her suggests that this Aerith in the dream date is 'future Aerith'. So maybe Aerith saying , "We don't have any pictures either!" was just a means to get more pictures with Cloud.

It's a very believable theory! Sephiroth knows how important his connection with Aerith is, so using it to his benefit I could see that happening.

I think the meaning is roughly the same but the nuance gets less important about liking when you know that for Aerith, it is less of a confession than a last heartfelt goodbye to Cloud.
It goes from "I like you but I won't clearly tell you if it's as family, close friend or as a lover" to "Know that I like you for who you are and how I do is not important anymore, I needed you to know and brace yourself with as much love you can muster for what will happen."

In the japanese version, the no date scene its Cloud using the "nakama" expression, its a clear distiction as a coleague or friend, in a no romantic way.
Yeah, and what's interesting is that Aerith's response to him saying "nakama dakara na" ("because we're comrades") is exactly the same as her response to the "HA" version of the scene. She replies that she "knows now, where you and I stand" in both versions, meaning that the context is precisely the same: Cloud loves Aerith as a friend and no more, and Aerith understands that while at last coming to terms with her own feelings, letting go of the fantasy. Which she then admits to herself and Cloud right after: that she "really likes" Cloud "but there's liking and there's liking" - i.e. this liking for Cloud is not indeed that of the love she still harbors for Zack. Zack even frames this entire "dream" of Aerith's as she herself calls it. Many people are going to be very shocked in Part 3 due to misunderstanding the writing.

TBH I dont like the our spot part. Sure it links to the part of the song...but! Aerith knows more ofc, but Cloud only been once to the church and doesnt have that attachment yet. It comes in AC. In CC Aerith was Midgar bound. Zack though of the church as a place to meet Aerith but Cloud? TBH he could be living in the city of the ancients in AC for that matter. He had a life altering world wide travel with Aerith. The church is only a place of their second meeting. OR.... Cloud also has some memory of the past. Remember him seeing her death in the church in remake?
That being said knowing woman irl, the more she has a carousel of emotions the more she is in love. Cloud doesnt understand that 😢
