I remember first playing it calling him Tidus as she pronounced it as I thought they were going with a water theme of Tidus = Tides and Yuna = Luna given him the moon has an affect on the tides. When I found out that wasn’t the case I really thought they missed a trick there
Favorite FF piece of all time. It's so simple, but so deep and dear to me. It's the piece that made me want to learn to play the piano and also the first piece I learned fully. Nobuo Uematsu is a genius.
There is a version of To Zanarkand played on a Piano, Violin, and Cello. It is played by a group called Trifantasy Trio. If you are a fan of the song I'd highly recommend looking it up on TH-cam. It brings an entirely different depth to song and is by far my favorite version of the song.
When I first heard you were playing the FF games, I immediately thought “I hope Kasta plays FFX…this just seems like a game that would capture her heart.” It wouldn’t surprise me it this becomes your favorite FF game.
1. You don't have to equip your armor in every battle. Whatever you have equipped will stay on that character until you change it. That option is if you want to swap to a different armor mid battle. But you only have 1 piece per character so that's all that's showing. 2. What each ability does is shown at the top of the screen both in battles and in the menu. Haven't finished the video yet, so if you figured this out already disregard lol
@alexs1640 7 was my first and it's also my favourite but it doesn't beat 10 by much 😋 The Remakes however are now my favourite FF games, especially Rebirth 👍
It's very respectable to see you playing the original version of the game, I think it'll make this experience that much more authentic and memorable. I can't wait to follow this journey!
So, just a tidbit: This was actually the first final fantasy game to return to using a true turn-based battle system since FF3 on the OG Nintendo. Final Fantasy 4-9 all used a system called "ATB" which is "Active Time Battles", and were cored around real-time action cooldowns. (Think FF7 remake, but without movement or "free" basic attacks). People colloquially still call the ATB system "turn-based" though, even though it's not technically true, because they both kinda look similar and have that "hurry up and wait" menu-based gameplay setup. FF10's battle system IS a true turn-based system though. It's called a "CTB - Conditional Turn Based" system. Which is an elevated form of a basic turn-based system, like Pokemon or Persona, but instead of just the enemy turn -> Player Turn -> Enemy Turn -> Player Turn format, EACH character/monster on the battlefield has there own spot on a turn order. The turn order can be manipulated, where characters can move their turns around, or push enemies' turns further down the order. It's really similar to the way Dungeons & Dragons' "initiative" system works. Anyway, 🌈THE MORE YOU KNOW 🌈
Your excitement is so endearing. I can’t wait to watch this entire play through. This game rocked my world when it came out. The graphics were an absolute game changer, and the fact that they still hold up 20 years later is a testament to how ahead of their time they were. I think I’ve played this game more than anything other than Ocarina of Time.
This isn't just my favorite FF game but one of my favorite games all time. I hope you love it as much as the fans of it do. It is truly an amazing game with a beautiful story. I can't wait to go on this journey with you.
This wasn't my first FF but it was the first I played as a brand new release. That intro with the gorgeous piano intro is embedded in my soul. You're such a gem for revisiting this in its original form. To think at the time I thought nothing could beat the graphics of FF9
I think you’re really going to love FFX. It has wonderful characters, great world building, incredible music and a cool twist on turn based combat. Just make sure to have some tissues handy. Like, a lot of tissues. Can’t wait to see the full journey!
Kasta has been one of my favorites for a year now because of how detail oriented she is and gets swept up in the experience. Whenever I watch a streamer, one of the first things I notice is whether or not they're paying attention to the details, because if they're not, they usually don't appreciate the story and the funny little exchanges between the characters that are part of the worldbuilding and character growth. I love that Kasta goes out of her way to catch all that and sometimes even finds things I missed.
I haven’t played FFX since I was a kid and I was considering doing a playthrough. But once I heard you were planning to play it, I decided, “nvm, the Kasta playthrough will be how I re-experience it.” Very excited for this!
Got goosebumps when this popped up on my feed. I remember waiting for FFX launch at midnight. It was a brutal December blizzard outside that night, the store was in the mall and we weren’t sure if the delivery man would make it in time and have to come back tomorrow. It was 1130pm at night and he came stumbling in with a bunch of boxes just for us with a smile on his face. We were all so grateful (about a hundred of us) we all pitched in to buy him a late night dinner. Went home and played it all night… and all day the next day. I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as I did. It is quintessential Final Fantasy.
Man, the early 2000's was such an exciting time. I know people say "oh, you're just getting old"... I genuinely think we're reaching a plateau in innovation and discovery.
So fun fact: Wakka is voiced by John Dimaggio. A prolific voice actor whos voiced Jake from Adventure Time and Bender from Futurama. Hes even voiced other Final Fantasy characters, like Heidegger from FF7R
James Arnold Taylor (tidus) also voiced obi wan Kenobi in clone wars, aswel as several other animated movies and shows by Disney, and several other prolific video games
I am so jealous you get to experience this game for the first time. This was such a massive part of my childhood I just remember being snowed in and out of school for days and just going through this game with my uncle and having an amazing time with this. To this day this is still my favorite Final Fantasy, its been about 5 or 6 years so I think I'm overdue for a playthrough!
Ahhhhh! Really think you’ll love this game. From the music to the world and characters, to its aesthetics. It’s just great all around, and a really emotional journey.
Your desire and ability to understand the deceptively complex combat and leveling systems in this game is fantastic, and tells me I'm in the right place.
OMG YESSSS!! I am not only excited to watch you play this game, but excited for you and your first experience of it!! I hope you end up loving it as much as the FF community does Kasta :D Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us all!
I have to respect someone who goes for the OG 2002 version. I was 16 when this game came out, had made my way through the "golden age" of Squaresoft (FF VI -> IX, Chrono Trigger, ....) and this title left a mark that I will never forget. I don't think I was fully conscious of the fact that I was witnessing gaming history at the time.
I just stumbled upon your channel with this video. I love your commentary and your attention to detail, and you're playing one of my favorite games of all time! 50+ hours of gameplay to watch, let's go!
The help at the top of the screen "raises strength and defence", Kasta: "What does Cheer do?" Never change 😂 When you start battles you already have armour and a weapon equipped, the change options are when you get other equipment with abilities that are useful in certain fights. Thank the heavens. you're back on your Final fantasy arc ready to unravel one of the best story telling to this very day, you'll have a hell of a time and we're all here for it.
I've never clicked on a video so fast. This was the first game that kept me awake for over 24 hours straight. It's also the first game that made me quit at a boss for months then come back and beat it first go lol.
This is so nostalgic. I didn't play this when it came out but I was a teenager when I found it used at a game stop back in 08. I didn't give it much of a chance though because teen me did not have patience for turn based combat. I definitely feel differently now though. It's honestly become my favorite way to play jrpgs. Especially with my disability.
Man, I remember seeing the first images in magazines and then the day I inserted that disc for the first time at home. We were blown away by the graphics, the CGI, the combat, the music, everything. When this came out, it literally redefined the videogame experience of that time and for the first time in the series hearing the protagonists in the almost fully voiced and narrated experience was incredible. Enjoy your playthrough, this game is pure magic!
Love that people are getting back to these old gems, used to watch my parents play through this when I was a kid. Can't wait for the next episode. Also Tidus putting Leon to shame with those strong calves🤣 who could kick a blitzball better😆
You tearing at up the opening made me tear up, too. FFX is the only FF that I'd consider among the best AND resonated with me as a personal favorite (yeah, I keep my "best" and "favorite" FF lists separate) in my 30+ years of playing FF games. It's truly a wonderful experience.
This game brings back so many great memories! I logged in like triple digit hours for this game when I was younger during my middle school days lol; there is a lot to do still after beating the game. You are going to have a blast playing the original FFX on original hardware PS2!! I hope you are playing on a CRT TV because that’ll make playing FFX feel super authentic 2000’s gaming experience. Have a good one, Kasta!
Kasta, you’re in for an emotional roller coaster! Also, I ran through the comments and I can’t believe no one has said anything about how she picked the Expert Sphere Grid without realizing my it.
I absolutely loved this so much. I cried when I saw you boot up the game and the intro played. Literally brought me back to 2001 when I first played it at the age of 14. It touched me so much seeing you being so touched to tears by the beginning of the game. I so look forward to your complete play through of this game. Much love to you Kasta! Keep up the amazing work!
Just noticed that you've locked into the 'Expert' sphere grid! While it gives a lot more flexibility in how to build a character, the flexibility also makes it easy to 'deviate' from the original or 'canon' build of the character based on the Standard sphere grid. This does have the possibility of making certain characters underpowered if not built 'correctly' at certain parts of the game, but that's part of the fun isn't it? 😁Standard sphere grid is certainly easier for a first-time playthrough but the Expert grid shouldn't be able to keep an expert let's player down. Can't wait to see what you make of this leveling system!
as someone who is a long term Final Fantasy fan and been playing these games for a little over 20 years I just wanted to say a few things. One I just found your channel and after just watching this one video i love it and your energy already. Two Final Fantasy X is my favorite one of all time so I really love and respect/appriecate your decision to play this game how many of us first experienced it. Nowadays I feel there is too big a focus on graphics verses making good stories. Old games just have a certain charm to them. If after u play this I def reccomend playing the hd version just cause it makes u appriecate this game even more. I look forward to watching your whole FFX journey!!
Aaahhh 🥹 I’ve started following you from Anna’s channel and I’ve been loving watching all of your final fantasy videos. FFX means so much to me. It’s one of the first video games I ever remember my brothers playing and all the characters, soundtracks, even some of the lines are still so clear in my memory. I can’t wait to watch this - I hope you love it as much as I do 🥹❤️
i'm always happy to see people playing final fantasy x for the first time. Experiencing this game for the first time is something very special, an experience you will never forget. For me, in terms of story, it is by far the best work - including films and series - that has ever been created. Please savour every second of the game, because nothing will come after it that can hold a candle to Final Fantasy X
Soooo excited for this! FFX was groundbreakingly beautiful when it came out. Also, wondering what Cheer does while the explanation is right there on the screen is killing me dead!
LETS GOOO!! I really hope you enjoy one of the most beloved and greatest games of all time! So interested to see how it goes for you since it’s classic turn based m, unlike FF7R and XVI. FFX was also the first FF to be voice acted!
I had so much fun watching you start this game. I enjoyed every minute of it. When you check abilities in the menu move your courser to the ability and read the top of the menu to see what they do. Also, whatever path you take try to fill every node without passing. Backtracking is costly. Overkill is a good thing, if I remember right, it improves drops. Good luck and enjoy!
Oh my goodness. This is the one. I remember my mom took my brother and me to Toys R' Us and let us pick one thing. We both went to the game aisle and he picked God of War. I literally just picked the cover that looked the prettiest and it was the one of a cute boy who looked like Aaron Carter standing in the ocean with a sword made of water. From then on, my life changed. This was the one that hooked me
This franchise started with this game for me. A friend introduced this to me and its been a core memory ever since. Even when that friend is no longer a part of my life, this game and final fantasy as a whole still fills me with fond memories to this day
This might be my 3rd favorite of the franchise. It's the first Final Fantasy to introduce voice acting. Don't worry about the weapon/armor menu in combat, that's for changing equipment, you're already equipped with those. Enjoy the journey!
FFX is literally one of my favorite final fantasy games ever! I’m so happy to see you play and experience this game to its fullest potential! I wish I could relive it and play it for the first time again but seeing your experience will fulfill that part of me. Also Yuna, Tidys and Lulu are some of my favorite characters in the game can’t wait for you to meet the rest of the cast! 💖☺️
Been looking forward to this for ages. And to hear that 9 will be your next Final Fantasy, just awesome. Thank you. Also, the sport of Blitzball is cannon in the Star Wars universe.
What a tremendous intro monologue to this playthrough that you recorded. The fact that you're playing the PS2 version, fair play to you for that and doing your research. You really care about the experience not just for yourself, but for your audience. Also, what an announcement, that you'll be playing all the Final Fantasy games working your way backwards through them. Every Final Fantasy has 'something' about it that makes it special. The sign of a great franchise is that so many fans have their 'own' favourite, it's not like there's one clear game that everyone says is the best, you know? So I hope you enjoy the ride and we've all bought a ticket to be on that ride with you. Cheers and now let's enjoy FFX! ^_^
This game is a rollercoaster of emotions and tied with FF IX for my favourite games ever. "Listen to my story, this may be our last chance", hearing that again made me all teary eyed and seeing you get emotional at the very start already tells me you're going to really love this game to bits and have a wild ride. Can't wait to see every part of your playthrough :)
Kasta, the list on the right side of the screen in battle is just a list of upcoming turns for each character and opponent. So you can know who is going to get a turn and plan for it. It is NOT a selectable menu for which enemy to choose from. You are moving the cursor on the enemies themselves to choose which one to attack.
Oh I am soooooo so hype for this. I only just found your channel recently and have been binging your Reunion playthrough and it's been one of my fav series in ages, Im so excited to watch you playing my personal favourite 😄 enjoy!
Actually ridiculously excited for this one. Played the remaster myself last year, but have a lot of fond memories watching my dad play the OG way back.
Love your approach to these older games and the respect you give them. There are a few games I wish I could experience for the first time again. You're so lucky.
Fun fact, Wakkas voice actor is also the voice of Heidegger in FF7 remake/rebirth. John Dimaggio (he also voiced Bender the robot in the cartoon Futurama).
I felt so happy when I saw you were going to cover this game and that you've chose the original international version. This was my first final fantasy game and one I revisit every couple of years to spend time with familiar characters, a beautiful story, and great music. Thanks for allowing us to relive our first gameplay through your first gameplay of FFX. You're right that there is nothing like your first play through and seeing your reactions allowed me to remember my first playthrough - my age, my friends, what was going on in my life at that time. It's a beautiful thing and I agree with the other comments below. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for each new episode to come out!
What an incredible start for a new beginning... Especially for me.. who by the way never played.. Hopefully I will enjoy this play through.. Keep up the good content Maggie! 👍 Let's go!
love the choice kasta, the HD-Remaster loses so much of the feelings the characters show from the original ps2 versions. you cant be as immersed in it when youre constantly wondering why their eyes and expressions look so stiff and lifeless. gonna watch this entire playthrough just like your ff7 series! you're awesome!
That Blitzball cutscene is amazing. It introduces Blitzball and what Tidus can do, a villain, a badass party member, and gives us a good look at Zanarkand. All in a very short time.
oh god the nostalgia hit HARD @ 8:26 🥲This game and the excitement of the newly released PS2 go hand in hand. "How awesome would it be to own a Playstation 2 and play Final Fantasy X?" Whenever someone mentions FFX, I immediately go back in time, seeing the commercial and being mesmerized with how amazing it looked. Every other game before X was just the false summit. You are in for one hell of an experience
My favorite FF and probably 2nd favorite video game.. and I've always called him Tide-us lol. "To Zanarkand", the piano song in the intro bonfire is one of the songs that helped with my obsession of learning to play Final Fantasy piano covers!
This is one of my favorite games of all-time. Really interesting seeing someone completely new to Turn-Based FF titles learn it for the first time. Loving the experimentation! Lol'd so hard when you smacked Auron with Tidus :P
I think you are missing out not playing the HD remaster, the jagged edges here are rough! But glad you are enjoying this! it is an absolute amazing game!
Waiting to see if you will have the patience to dodge 200 consecutive lightning bolts in the thunder plains. Still to this day one of the most rage inducing side quest ever conceived in gaming. lol
You might discover this later in the video, but I'm pretty sure you keep re-equipping your armor in battles. I think that menu is only there if you wanted to switch your weapons or armor mid battle. You don't have any different stuff yet so that menu is useless right now.
Waiting for all the comments saying "iTs TEE-DA ActUalLy"
nah because it's actually Teedoos
I remember first playing it calling him Tidus as she pronounced it as I thought they were going with a water theme of Tidus = Tides and Yuna = Luna given him the moon has an affect on the tides. When I found out that wasn’t the case I really thought they missed a trick there

@@Wezt334same, so I don’t fault anyone for pronouncing it differently

'To Zanarkand' the piano piece in the opening scene is enough to bring tears to the eyes of even the hardest warriors.
Just those first few notes man....
Nothing beats learning it on the piano to play for yourself :)

You tearing at up the opening made me tear up, too. FFX is the only FF that I'd consider among the best AND resonated with me as a personal favorite (yeah, I keep my "best" and "favorite" FF lists separate) in my 30+ years of playing FF games. It's truly a wonderful experience.
FFX already???!!! Let's goooooooo! ✨
Got my wife to play this with me for my birthday. Couldn’t be more excited to watch this playthrough, I can’t get enough of this game
Tip: Don’t skip activating nodes if you are missing the necessary sphere. You can always move later.
Also, I ran through the comments and I can’t believe no one has said anything about how she picked the Expert Sphere Grid without realizing my it.
just noticed this as I have just arrived at the sphere grid tutorial portion of the vid. can’t wait to see how it plays out, lol. 🤞
I noticed the same thing and it will certainly make things "interesting" moving forward.
as someone who is a long term Final Fantasy fan and been playing these games for a little over 20 years I just wanted to say a few things.
This is going to be an amazing playthrough!
Sooooo excited to watch you play this game!!! This is my all time favorite. The opening music could bring a tear to my eye alone. Love your videos!!!
I can’t wait to watch this - I hope you love it as much as I do 🥹❤️
I've been waiting for this since you mentioned you'd be playing it, so this one's for the algorithm
Ooh shieet, expert sphere grid too
Also, yes! I remember going through that tutorial more than once hahaha
So fun thing, Rikku's VA (Tara Strong) was Harley Quinn in Arkham City and Knight.
i'm always happy to see people playing final fantasy x for the first time. Experiencing this game for the first time is something very special, an experience you will never forget. For me, in terms of story, it is by far the best work - including films and series - that has ever been created. Please savour every second of the game, because nothing will come after it that can hold a candle to Final Fantasy X
Yes!!!! I’ve been waiting for what seems like a millennium for you to play FFX. In my opinion it’s the second best FF game after 7
Soooo excited for this! FFX was groundbreakingly beautiful when it came out. Also, wondering what Cheer does while the explanation is right there on the screen is killing me dead!
Soooooo many memories!!!
Thank you for this 🙂
Looking forward to watching every upload.
Your TH-cam videos and twitch is what helps me through my days. Thank you!!!
Cool to be able to go through this with so many people and touch all of their lives. Cheers! You rock girl.
The intro music and the song suteki da ne makes my lips shiver ever time, even after the 100 playtrough. So many memories..
Yo let's go!!! Kasta's finally playing the best FF 😁
Here we go!! This will be great. One of the best games ever.
“Listen to my story. This may be our last chance”
Its so interesting to compare seeing the intro here with no context to your journey now with all the context and details and tears!! What a story.
This was the DEFINITIVE Final Fantasy of MY childhood, hope you enjoy !
The fact you're playing my top rated FF game which got me to the franchise on a ps2 which is what I played it on got my immediate sub goof job
This notification has brought the biggest smile to my face. I can't wait to watch once I finish work. 😊
Bacon Pancakes!
And the voice of Tidus is James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Obi Wan in Star Wars: Clone Wars and other media.
What the heck
I felt so happy when I saw you were going to cover this game and that you've chose the original international version. This was my first final fantasy game and one I revisit every couple of years to spend time with familiar characters, a beautiful story, and great music. Thanks for allowing us to relive our first gameplay through your first gameplay of FFX. You're right that there is nothing like your first play through and seeing your reactions allowed me to remember my first playthrough - my age, my friends, what was going on in my life at that time. It's a beautiful thing and I agree with the other comments below. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for each new episode to come out!
Been waiting patiently Have fun Kasta!
This is so no true man, but different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Oooo me and my friend were looking forward to your reaction to X ! your journey with the series has been SO interesting so far! After all.
Hope y'all love it! 💛
@@KastaclysmI beat Cancer ♋️ Are you Happy for me
FFX is my favorite of the series, so I am really excited to see your playthrough!
omg it’s started
That Blitzball cutscene is amazing. It introduces Blitzball and what Tidus can do, a villain, a badass party member, and gives us a good look at Zanarkand. All in a very short time.
YES
I'm so excited
oh god the nostalgia hit HARD @ 8:26 🥲This game and the excitement of the newly released PS2 go hand in hand.
Good choice. The remaster really butched the faces.
I love watching you going on this journey. It really is the next best thing to re-experiencing these legendary games for the first time again.
Waiting to see if you will have the patience to dodge 200 consecutive lightning bolts in the thunder plains. Still to this day one of the most rage inducing side quest ever conceived in gaming. lol
So glad that you decided to experience ffX international..FFX is my favorite final fantasy .. They really pulled out all the stops for this one.
You might discover this later in the video, but I'm pretty sure you keep re-equipping your armor in battles. I think that menu is only there if you wanted to switch your weapons or armor mid battle. You don't have any different stuff yet so that menu is useless right now.
