  • Frontotemporal dementia is a type of dementia that affects the front and sides of the brain, leading to changes in behavior, personality, and language. This condition is often misdiagnosed or overlooked, but it can have a significant impact on the lives of those affected and their loved ones.
In this video, we'll explore the symptoms, causes, and treatment options for frontotemporal dementia. We'll discuss the early warning signs to watch out for, including changes in social behavior, difficulty with language, and poor decision-making skills.
We'll also explore the underlying causes of frontotemporal dementia, including genetic mutations and abnormal protein deposits in the brain. And we'll discuss the various treatment options available, from medications to behavioral therapy and support groups.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, it's important to seek out the right treatment and support. This video will provide you with the information and resources you need to make informed decisions about your care.

I have an 83 year-old friend with FTD. It's so sad to see a man who used to be so sharp and productive suffer from such a devastating condition.

I feel strongly that my father had this and it was not picked up properly by his physicians, until he was close to the end when they FINALLY noticed. Dad was brilliant and the signs of decline were not easy to see from an outsider's point of view when he was so different from his former self, but was still equal to an average person. I could tell them until I was blue in the face that he had issues, but I was ignored, because he could accurately draw a clock face even when he had all the signs. Medical providers need to listen to family.

To be candid, one of the first, common signs of FTD is that the victim becomes nasty. I knew someone, whom I would see for a few days, every year, at hobby conventions. One year, he was not himself. He was rude to me and to others. He objected to judges rulings in hobby contests. Oddly, he became attached to my, then, 3-year-old son. Soon after that, he was diagnosed with FTD and passed about three years thereafter. I mention this because Bruce Willis acquired a reputation, in his later years, for being hard to work with. Maybe we should cut him some slack.

    • @src5769
      @src5769 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, my former mild-mannered brother, 74, became very nasty as well. So much so that his wife of 50 yrs divorced him not knowing he had FTD. Now he's being romance-scammed online by Nigerians.

In 1990 my car was totaled from the rear and I appeared ok. But began having sleep problems immediately. Then muscle pain, problems accessing thoughts. It was diagnosed as Fibromyalgia, which is known to affect thought processes.
Then in 2014 I had Mold Illness. CT Scan Showed issues in area of frontal lobe, white matter along with a growth. I had amnesia for three months. The growth appears to be calcifying. Then I had COVID. Caused Memory problems too. When I'm tired I still lose words and thought flow. It's frightening for me because I live alone. I don't know what the future holds.

Hi Justine. I'm sorry for your condition. I'm sick with fibromyalgia too due to several assaults but most probably I had it since my childhood, I just was misdiagnosed and then in adulthood it worsened because of what I've passed through. I wish you all the best. Take care of yourself and treat your fibromyalgia, I'm sure you know concerning ways of treatment. I hope your relatives and friends will help you with everything you need. God bless you.

I am so grateful for this vlog, and would really appreciate some future follow-up vlogs that address (e.g., the process of identifying the type of neurological disease; clinical trials, etc.). My mom fell down a flight of stairs, and it was a horrible accident. She was eventually diagnosed in 2011 with dementia, but I was struggling (then and now) to identify which complex monster (neurological disease) is present. From a primary Caregiver perspective, this has been THE most emotionally exhausting journey. I welcome continuous education for myself, but I am frustrated that not all neurologists are on the same page, and I'm infuriated by the lack of support from my siblings (just being honest) - which I've accepted is never going to change.

In my mid 60s I developed many of the symptoms you present. I think I was exposed to a toxic environment possibly water and air contamination. My housing was destroyed and living in an SUV and later a van my environment being outside a city is more natural. All of my symptoms for four years are in remission.

Having lived outside the apartment dwelling or house for double digit years, 23 yrs ago, living outside like that has a totally different brain awakening than when one is enclosed. It's vibrant, in that we have to immediately respond to the outdoors as opposed to getting "ready" to go out. I mean things are in your face when they are not when you live "indoors". You have to be more on "spot" - as an older woman, I do. So I moved back and settled in. There are good qualities in your way of living - always having the sun in your face...
      Good luck with all 🌹✝️🌹

Dr. Mike does an MRI and/or a cat scan show which neurological disease is present? My mom died from dementia/Alzheimer's. When she was 1st diagnosed, her doctor said we would only know which disease if an autopsy was done. TYFS Cindy

Unfortunately, my brother in law died from a rare form of Alzheimer disease. The body - without his brain telling him - stopped doing "things", like swallowing. In the long run speech was non existent. But if this could be diagnosed, why couldn't "they" diagnose your mom before an "autopsy"? Today, one has to fight with Drs, more than anything. I had to fight like hell to get the surgery I needed! It was horrible.
So sorry for your loss 🙏🏻

Thank you for yet again, an oh, so relevant topic. As we get older - next birthday, I will have completed my 67th year of life - "forgetfulness" happens. When my older sister, 79 yrs, said something to me about her memory and I responded, What memory?! She hung up on me 🤣
There are a ton of free apps that do help our brains, from words to pictures. They are beneficial. Let's face it, when there are seven letters and you can't make a three letter word, you're in trouble. Find differences in pictures, hidden objects, grouping of like items, cards are great for stimulating the memory - there are just so many brain friendly games that are worth our while!
    Thank you, DR. HANSEN ❗

If you check online image sets for Type II Diabetes, from sites like Radiopaedia, you will see the same carotid sheath compression as in this video at the 6:22 mark, as vagus nerve compression can cause an increase in inflammation that could be more of a factor than genetics too, especially if the issues were from trauma, just my non professional observation, I have concerns for similar reasons to yours, that's why I was looking.

ALS can involve the same compression of carotid sheath structures of the internal jugular vein and vagus nerve and such, I noticed that browsing some ALS cervical spine MRI sets online, similar to the image seen at the 6:22 mark in this video, but it seems to have compression lower as well, good point though!
