MARK a beautiful morning here after 18 inches of down. Hahaha NO it is not normal to have this snow this early. It is a soft white blanket for my winter wheat and a long slow drink of water hahaha. I so enjoyed seeing the American Heritage as I talk to it's Captain almost daily...He is an old Darlen, and his Babbies. He is so easy to read on chat. Funny funny man too. Many chat on Streamtime live on the St Clair river Port Huron with has a camera as well showing everything going and coming.Captain Hubert is full of stories. So Mark come join us and Hubert. Thankyou for the videos they are beautiful I so enjoy till next bye bye
That's the most business like pilot house on the riv. Got in one once for a while. This is one of your most epic vids from the visual presentation standpoint. I have just about the same imagery for this boat from Grand Tower in a snow storm about 13 yrs ago. Wast of good time but what a boat. Amazing design for impressive eye appeal as compared to the flabby crap Jeffboat builds.
Wow... I didn't realize it was possible to go 8 wide. I thought 7 x 7 was the max. I must plead ignorance, though, as I've only spotted boats north of St. Louis.
Yesterday Captain was pushing 35 and picking 11 more and i said to him well you'll have your hands full, hahah and Captain came back with just like pushing a shoes box. Hahaha right I said , no kidding. This video of your pop up so started watching. And you said ,so you want to be a towboater, I laughed and had to tell you what Captain H.H. said. Hahaha Funny Man.I ⛴🤣
Why do you insist in calling this operation a "tow " when your " pushing "the barges not towing them which would put the power unit in front of the configuration not behind it.
ARTCO,American River Transportation Corp. They bought the Heritage and with the rest of the boats from Wisconsin Barge Line in the early 80's.The American Heritage and American Pillar were 2 of 3 biggest 10,500HP boats.Federal Barge Line had the 3rd.
My son is the Assistant Engineer on that boat. Thank you for posting this!
Whats the purpose of the float barrel on the outside corners of the tow??
@@franciswimmer7533 for flanking they slow down and use the buoys to see when they are at current speed or below the buoy stops dragging

7.71 acres of tow. Phenomenal!
Was a deckhand on that very boat back in 2006, the northbound tows were even bigger than this southbound one. Boat was very impressive.
They are even more impressive to see when you are in a canoe travelling down river with them.
STAY OFF THE RIVER!
HARD TO COMPREHEND. MUST BE A SUPERB PILOT. THANX A BUNCH
Hi Hurbet! have a good trip!
Beautiful boat.
Looks like he pulled up to the fleet said aight guys put the face wires on it let's go lol
Its a beautiful beautiful thing to see. It gets better everytime...❤❤❤❤❤
wow it is truly remarkable just how massive and turbulent the Mississippi river actually is...
Yea she's a nasty one in more ways than one
Don't bother Captain Harned , he has been doing this for a long time. You can catch him on Fort Madison camera chat.
All I can say to that is WOW!
Great Capt,
How far north does a tow that large go upriver?
Cairo is as far north with tow that size. Depending on river level determines how many they take from Cairo to St. Louis.
8 wide ?
Tremendo lo que empujan esos remolcadores 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽mucho poder
How does it get thru the locks ?
They don’t

Hello Capitan Hubert Harness an your crew...safe travels to all
I was on the dan back in 1996 captain pier was the pilot
Is that a big tow, that's pretty impressive?. A huge tow? Are they makin' it look easy?
how many sq ft does 6 long and 8 wide barges translate into
Each barge is 200 ft. long x 35 ft. wide.
Total length of tow is 1200’ long x 280’ wide
@@marktwained thanks approximately 7.5 acres of barges.

Lots of money in logist and shipping. Kinda like Simi trucks or trains or the river
Except much much bigger
Damn! That is a looong tow...kinda like driving on black ice on a road she was sliding so much.
there is a notch on the port head, so how is that 48?
+Captn Tom I think its 8x6 with a notch is 47 maybe.
Captn Tom read the caption. 46 barges south bound.
2barge notch
I'm sure the lock tender is thrilled to see her coming
This is on Lower Mississippi River, not a locking river. It's wide open to the gulf.
What is the HP of that boat???? Wonder who the pilot was??
Robert J Williams 10500hp
Where is Steve Douglas ???
I just applied to work with them.
what do you mean making it look easy, it is easy when you are good LOL
i was on her in 1979 we only pushed 35 barges then 45 north bound
I rode her a few trips around then.Rode with Capt.Chuck Thomas.I was the regular 1st.mate on the Sierra Dawn.
not much freeboard on those boats.
Fuck me that's some responsibility, Making it look sooo easy..
tow tow tow u mean push push push..

Different terminology than you are used to.
I assume there are no right hand corners to navigate.. lol
That is cool
Hmmmm , Let's see, 8 wide by 6 long to my calculations comes to 48 barges not 46.
Notches on the corners
Christopher Laing there are one barge notches on the port and starboard head,so the port and starboard strings are only 5 long
@@ratmetal1168 I cannot see this in the video so I was taking what you said and it didn't work out to the 8 wide x 6 long you mentioned.
10500 HP tem
