    Right On!!! Our band Pig Splitter just got this set a few weeks ago. We are returning it later today. It basically stoped working when we play too hard.

    Thanks for the update! I just picked up this kit last week, and mostly love it. My kick drum triggering seems just fine after turning down (up?) the threshold. But, as you mention, the triggering on the snare feels a bit inconsistent, and the center hot spot is, well, scorching. I wasn't expecting amazing-ness on a budget kit, but hoped I for a little better control over dynamics. So I'm really glad you've found that the triggering has "broken in" with time. (I don't quite get how that would happen, but hope it holds true for me.) I was actually considering trying the Alesis Crimson 2 SE, which is the exact same price, but I believe uses a multi-point contact for the piezo on the snare, vs. the single contact on the Simmons. But I also don't really know what I'm talking about.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it happens because the foam used on the center snare trigger is pretty stiff in the beginning, then it softens up after being played for a while. This definitely happened on the kick drum because I can feel it, if I push on it with my fingers. Try playing with the tension on the snare and adjusting sensitivity and velocity curve settings on the snare. You should be able to dial it in. Even when mine was new, I got it working 90% to my liking, then after about 2 months or so, it seemed perfect.

    • @jamesvogl1
      @jamesvogl1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@demonicsweaters That actually makes a lot of sense. I did notice how stiff the cone is and how firmly it's pressed against the head-to the point of being able to distinctly feel the bump, when skimming my fingers over the head. I did tweak the settings a bit, and I'll play w/ tension, but ultimately, it's reassuring to know that it should improve with time. Thanks!

      Update: So, in the middle of playing today, the snare's trigger cone detached. photos.app.goo.gl/NqJzcXBG7fj1D4vLA
      One one hand, it makes me feel a little relieved, knowing that maybe the inconsistency I was feeling had to do with an improperly secured cone; on the other hand, my 2-week-old SD1250 had an improperly secured cone. 🤦‍♂

      Thank you! Yes, it works great with both SD3, and EZ Drummer, or any drum VST for that matter. Most of them have Simmons presets as well for mapping.

      I would suggest turning the kick pedal around so that the plastic side is hitting the kick drum. It seems a little backwards (no pun intended) but it attributes to the longevity of the mess face of the kick drum.

    Thanks for the update as it's really helpful information because some of these lower priced kits are reported to have high failure rates within the first few months. I look forward to getting this kit. You have a great channel, and it keeps getting better with your redesign and new content.

      They go quite or start sending a very weak signal. Only the rim will will be loud. I’m on my 4th snare and they claim to have fixed the issue now. We’ll see, I don’t have high hopes that this one will last. The kit is great when it works. I am looking at doing the same thing you did and switching to a Roland td07 and using either a Roland or Lemon snare. Did you have to change the ride to a Roland to get it to work or was it a preference? Thanks,
      Rob

    I have heard that the felt beater which is almost the same fabric of a tennis balls are not good for mesh heads. That if you have a double sided beater to use the rubber side. I think that bluetooth midi is cool!!👍

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I've heard that as well, but I've used the tennis ball beaters on other mesh heads without issue though. I think it might have more to do with the ball shape not making a flat contact with the mesh/foam. We'll see, I just got a kick similar to it at home, using flat plastic beaters from the start and we'll see how it holds up.

    Awesome review of this drum set. I am on the fence of getting one but for an unusual reason. Right now I am using a smaller Simmons kit belonging to my manager where I live. We keep it stored in a wreck room in a closet behind a stage built in the room that has double doors. The set now we have to fold the legs into to make it compact to fit inside but that has a snare connected to the rack where this one is on the separate stand. My question would be do you know if thid sd1250 would fold up pretty tight i.e. it looks like the floor toms would clear the front toms when folded in or when it's folded in is it still pretty bulky? Obviously you wouldnt know the size of closet I am talking but just in general does it fold in pretty tight to move it?

I call Simmons many times and I just get the run around. Do you know of this issue and is there an alternative way to load a song.

    With the mesh drum heads--i know Simmons has a plastic dotxto stick on the bass deum head,to protect it. Could a moleskin pad be used instead? I used the moleskin pad under suggestion by my drum instructor and some other drummer friends at the time. However, this was on an acoustic kit.
    How about bass drum beaters--could a metal or wood beater be acceptable use on a mesh head or are they too hard and stick with plastic?

      @@demonicsweaters I am used to playing a real high hat, so the pedal response to me is very clunky. Maybe I need to dig deeper into the module and see if I can tune up the pedal response. @@jessiemoore4897 I haven't tried the Lemon Hi Hat with the SD1250. But honestly, no electronic hi hat feels exactly like an acoustic one. I have a Roland VH-11 on my other kit, and even it doesn't really like an acoustic. I almost prefer the Simmons one to the VH-11. I do plan on getting an optical hi hat soon though for my ATV and I think this will be a big upgrade, but I don't think they'll work on and SD1250.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, you cannot do this on any electronic drum set. Bluetooth headphones have too much latency for playing drums. Bluetooth is most commonly used to connect your phone to the module, or on the sd1250 for connecting MIDI devices. See my recent video about my favorite e-drum headphones.

      Yes, this goes for all e-drums, mostly because of the kick drum. There are ways to minimize the noise though. Look into 'edrum floating risers' or 'roland noise eaters'. I live on a 4th floor apartment and have a Roland Noise Eater on one of my kicks, and a homemade version on the other.
