Spotted me as a young 24 year old taking pics behind the concrete barrier at the chicane. White Tshirt near the tree with the sign, camera on the barrier, thinking to myself as I was looking through the camera, gee Berger's out of shape and coming towards me!! Got the shot though.

Actually, this wasn't the last race for Brocky in that particular Holden Commodore as Murray Walker states. The car was upgraded to Group A SS specs in late 1985 and was used by Brock and Allan Moffat to win the 1986 Wellington 500 (it had also been Brock's 1985 Bathurst car). It then became Brock's 1986 ATCC car before a new version appeared mid-season with John Harvey then taking charge of the car for the remainder of the year.

I believe that Dick Johnson's victory in this race was the only victory by a Ford Mustang in a Group A race anywhere in the world.

+Graham Clayton Correct. The underpowered, but very good handling and braking Mustang was in its element on the Adelaide circuit in 1985. But by 1986 with the turbo Nissan's and the Group A SS Commodore's, the Mustang was nothing more than a 'wait for the Sierra'.

@@Holden308LOL. Ask Dick about how "underpowered" that car was in Adelaide 1985.

They were proper cars, far better than the V8 Juice cars of today.

I believe the chicane was opened out a bit during the F1 years, to decrease the possibility of there being a first corner pileup.

It's not the same corner as the Clipsal races doesn't use the full circuit.
The Clipsal races rejoins the old GP circuit midway down the Brabham Straight

is it just me or has the chicane been 'straightened out' for the clipsal races these days. seems a bit more of a corner in that vid

I didnt know Harvey could be such a dick. The move on Berger may have been 50/50. But O'Brien? He really slammed the door shut when it wasn't his turn. But hey, he got away with it until he slipped.
Thankfully lots of steering lock on this circuit for drivers to pull those incredible saves a la Finnigan when he overdrove his anvil to stay in punching distance to Mr Precision Line Bond's slotcar.

Dirty driving by John Harvey at both the start and taking Burger out...

Berger moved across Harvey in the braking zone, then was late turning left. The distance between Harvey and the side of the track didn’t change until turn-in. The distance between Berger and the track was constantly reduced into the braking zone before turn-in, as he came across Harvey’s nose. I do agree about the massive jump on the start, though.

Quite clearly the race stewards need to have words with John Harvey ( 2nd HDT commodore ) bloody hell talk about a jump start! He was under way several seconds before anyone else and then tips off a BMW driver who was at least 75% of the way past! Bad driving John Harvey!
Where the fuck is the black flag for John Harvey, he should have got a 1min penalty in my opinion!
