I was actually wondering about this game recently. Glad to see it come back around because I didn’t know the name
I knew it looked familiar. If it’s the same one I’m thinking of, it does look significantly better.

I love how we are all fed up with modern graphics that mostly seem to only chase the goal to look as real as possible. And I love how we genuinely consider this as „beautiful“. The community (or at least a fraction of it) is changing, for the better .

Even better will be the near future when games like this can be automatically ported to the most relevant system it would run on at full frame rate. I can imagine this actually running on a PlayStation and a physical copy being generated that would run on actual hardware.
These console systems when they came out set a coding and hardware standard that new games can quickly format themselves to in order to have their games become "canon" for that system
sorry, but what games are you playing? Outside of racing and sport, nearly everything is stylized. Just because a game has a cutting edge engine doesn't means it is chasing realism.

I played the demo (it's was on SteamFest). My most succint summary: it's feels like a remake of Morrowind that was made for the PSX.

I really like the background music. I'm not sure if CALMING was the goal but it sure is calming
The music in this game is beautiful. I almost feel like not watching the gameplay and just closing my eyes to this, but the visuals are so beautiful. This game really captures a slice of the 90's/early 2000's video game charm. It takes me back to a time where I was a kid and over 50% of what would draw me to a game when I was checking out game demos was aesthetic, checking out games like Fur Fighters and being sucked in by the colours and style

I don't normally like describing things as "dreamlike", but man does the atmosphere really feel like that in between stage in the middle of awake and sleeping.

This is the atmosphere of the games of my childhood.
The art and music are of such quality, I nearly cried just thinking about how well they work together and just how good they are on their own.
No thanks, I already got my "Dread" fill with Metroid. But in all seriousness, this is a gorgeous looking game, and gives me more a feel for early PC 3D games than it does a PS1 game. The frame rate itself is pretty smooth, but the atmosphere is delightfully unsettling, the music is haunting, and it feels kind of mysterious.

Anyone can make a game retro style, it's the people that can use those limitations to make something beautiful that really impress me.

Now seriously - glad to see game similar to old FROM Software games before they started making Souls games...
@Steven Johnson What I mean by that term is making indie games ugly on purpose, to the point where it's hard to see what's on the screen when it's full of effects. Even worse when you combine it with flashy, modern graphic effects like bloom, HDR and others. Meanwhile old games with pixel graphic focused on style and lacked special effects, which results in way more clear picture and you could see what's going on.
I do love the pixel mess more that triple eyyy gaming, who needs raytracing if you get good story that can be conveyed effectively or gameplay.
And also because my computer cannot handle those games without becoming a fire hazard. The only games I can play are outdated or indie.
This game aside from Kings Field, also feels like Shadow Tower Abyss. Not every monster is immediately hostile. Take advantage of them, as some are more useful alive than dead

The creativity in the world building is amazing along with that gorgeous soundtrack.
I thought this was gonna be a rip and tear fast one shot deal, but this is actually waaay more fleshed out than I expected!

Graphics are on point, love these retrolooking dark rpg. We need more of them asap!
I quite liked the original alpha's more desolate feeling, and I'm hoping there's still going to be stuff about a clockwork god in there.
Overall this is probably going to appeal to more people but I liked some of what the alpha had going for it, hopefully they can fuse the feel of the two for the final product
I welcome the comeback of Morrowind. Very quirky but so consistently stylish until it simply digs under the skin. Excellent.

Just finished The Golden Typhos as well. So the main quest The hunt for Vela Callos is supposed to be left active/not to be finished in the current demo? I feel like I ran around whole available map. Somehow I expected the demo would finish with some epic screensaver after one of the quests was done.
I expect her to be the final boss or second to the final boss, with the final boss being the god they worship, so I already knew that fighting her is slim to none.

I've been replaying Morrowind recently and this game does seem to have a similar sort of atmosphere, although honestly the sky puts me off a bit. Movement seems a fair bit faster though heh.
The tone of this game is really interesting. It's very mysterious without being "horror" game.
I always like the PS1 graphics style and the the simplicity of the gameplay. This game actually remember me those games i played when i was young. I hope in the futur, game creators will makes more game like this !
I'm averaging 100fps on my commodore 64. That being said...this game is fantastic! I'm a older guy, so I'm used to the best games ever being played, looking like this!

Seeing how easy and rewarding it is to be a thief, why the hell would I specialize in another build at all? If I wanted to follow the path of the warrior, i would have already lost 4 juicy skillpoints in this city alone!
Apart from that, the game looks pretty good

I love this game and I loved how you covered it one year ago, but I DO miss the previous demo's opening OST.
It had a dark streampunk vibe of desolation that I think this new one misses.

I miss it too! A remix of the track plays at 25 minutes though, the original may have been scrapped.

One thing I wonder is if how the unlocking dice works? Can you open anything by just clicking enough times?
Hi! Each roll of the dice that failes uses up a lockpick. The higher your lockpicking skill the lower the required dice number is.

combat in video games are important, the game feel pretty linear when it come to this part, here how it usually goes: you hit an enemy, they hit back, you move backward and they miss, you charge back in and the cycle repeat until either you made a mistake or the enemy die

So far I've only been able to try the timed demo on the haunted ps1 demo disk which was good but is there currently any other way to play a longer version? Would love to explore more but I just dont know where to look. I saw that they had a steam page finally which is a good sign! I envy people who got to play these earlier builds :D
Totally different indeed specially the dialogue style and narrative. The old one played more like sunless sea with 3d map.
It's like Oblivion with PS1 graphics. I like it!

I wish rpgs could recapture the mystery and eeriness that this game seems to effortlessly convey. I wish they were more about the journey and less about the quests
Might I suggest Outward? You Journey to fulfill your quest but the quest will not hold your hand. You have a map but no markers meaning you have to read the quest's description to find out where you need to go and check the topography of the land. Your Journey will always take several days and no you cant just superman your way there, you have to eat and sleep to survive which makes it longer, you might have to go on a detour on a monster den or a bandits town to resupply as your food will rot, and your equipment will wear, hunt animals, set up a camp, etc... The quest doesn't generate unique enemies or items, they are always there even if you go to that area without a quest.
It's not about finishing a quest, It's how you accomplished it.

Damn poverty! I can't even play a great game like this, even if it has graphics like that (don't get it wrong, I love the '90s and early 2000s style of video games, I'm not criticizing it).
By the way, the updates to this game and its new additions and improvements is amazing. The game was already impressive, but it is even better.
