For some reason, I never knew about the size of an individual ADMM missile until now. That roughly pen-sized object has the firepower of a standard missile. I think...
I mean, i COULD see such a weapon being possible, but its actuall usefullness is VERY dubious. For one, propelant is going to be the main issue. You want to have enough explosive force to be able to at least be marginally usefull, but you aslo want to have enough propelant to get places. And well, while we can make usefull small warheads mainly through HEAT, we are just very bad at propelant. I guess if metalic hydrogen was aviable it would be rather easy to use use this extremely energy dense material for the engine and explosives and would actually have quite the powerfull blast, but metalic hydrogen has not really been conclusively made yet. However i could see it happen. If physics models are to be beleived, unlike liquid hydrogen (which will revert to gas hydrogen without proper containement and cooling), metalic hydrogen is metastable and as such could be maintained without special containement. Even then, its going to be a VERY expensive weapon and i can't really see its niche use waranting this. Much cheaper SDBs can be used to take out ground targets with a much greater blast (while being precise enough to not cause too much colateral damage). Plus UAVs also make such a technology a bit redundant. an ADMM's main advantage would be to allow a single aircraft to carry a LOT more ordinance on it, but with UAVs, you can just have more planes in the air than you would ever have pilots. A then end of the day, you end up with a more flexible system wich is more resilient to damage, that can be used more agressively (cause no risk of losing a pilot) and allows for far more powerfull ordinance without sacrificing range or blowing up the cost.
@@starliner2498 Like you burn regular liquid hydrogen: with an oxidizer. Since these missiles are designed to be used in places that aren't space, you can use ambient oxygen as the oxidizer for the reaction. The biggest problem really is just how energetic metalic hydrogen can get, but not using the full power would make its use in a rather low power, long duration compact engine. Again, i don't think these small missions would be any good at fighting aircrafts or armored targets. Rather, there would very small precision ordinace to be droped on soft targets like technicals, which ususaly are targets too small to warrant the use of a larger bomb because ordinace is a restricted buisness when talking about strike aircrafts. But this is still, IMO, far too restrictive anyways. Rather have a metric hellton of drones to carry a metric hellton of regular sized ordinance rather than trying to cram super small ordinance onto a manned fighter, which would neither have the range to stay away from AA, or the lack of pilot to afford operating in these environements

The Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is an American single-seat, twin-engine, supersonic all-weather stealth fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). As a product of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program the aircraft was designed as an air superiority fighter, but also incorporates ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence capabilities. The prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, built most of the F-22's airframe and weapons systems and conducted final assembly, while program partner Boeing provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems. The aircraft first flew in 1997 and was variously designated F-22 and F/A-22 before it formally entered service in December 2005 as the F-22A. Although the USAF had originally planned to buy a total of 750 ATFs, the program was cut to 187 production aircraft in 2009 due to high costs, a lack of air-to-air missions at the time of production, and the development of the more affordable and versatile F-35.[N 2] The last F-22 was delivered in 2012. While it had a protracted development and initial operational difficulties, the F-22 has become a critical component of the USAF's tactical airpower. The fighter's combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance, and mission systems enabled a leap in air combat capabilities and set the benchmark for its generation.
