- Hello lovelies! I'm so excited to share with you my experience during a personal colour analysis done with House of Colour. I take you through some basics of Colour Science, behind the scenes of the session, and then my afterthoughts. Cosy up and take a sip of tea every time I say my mind was blown! Have you ever had a colour analysis done? What are your thoughts about it? I'd love to know if you've ever felt a "pull" towards certain colours or if certain tones make you feel better when you wear them.
It turns out that I'm a Winter - specifically a sultry jewel Winter. It was deffo an eye opening session and I've been playing more with colour and my makeup style since I had this done ( follow me on Instagram to keep up with me as I'm way more active there! / amenakhan )

LOVED this and your colours are sooo beautiful on you! I've been researching the different systems, and House of Colour definitely seems to be the best and most in-depth one out there. HOC is the best method of PCA, really, I´ve tried them all. Knowing my season is such a reliefe. Now you might want your haircolour to better meet your season. It seems a bit muted for the Winter type. Anyway, you look fantastic, especially in the beret. You inspired me, ´cause I´m also Soft Gamine. Your lively vibe is so dear to me.

I’m also an HOC jewel winter and had a similar reaction, down to always assuming I was warm b/c of my brown skin. I’d love to see you talk about makeup!

same here! I was also a HoC sultry winter and was convinced she miss analysed me as I always assumed I must be Autumn as I have warm brown skin! I am slowly coming around to believe that it is correct! I have even just purchased a lipstick and blush!

I got mine done and will have my style analysis done next week. Turns out im a jewel winter. Ive been influenced by social media to be going into warm colors (everyone i knew will tell me that im warms due to my ethnicity) and I'll get matched with warm shades too. I put on a cool tone foundation and blue red lipstick (instead of coral red) for the first time and it looks good on me. Please do a video on their makeup. I only tried it during my session but on the fence on getting them.

Gorgeous! Isn’t it funny how we get it wrong. What a relief. At least if you really want to wear the colours that you love that aren’t on your winter palette you can do so on the bottom half of your body perhaps and aim for cool versions of those neutrals rather than warm.
My experience was similar to yours. I’d been wearing subtle summer colours and it turns out I’m a bright spring so really warm and bright! 🦋🌷💛🎨
ETA yeh I was brainwashed by the minimalist aesthetic I think too although I adore the spring neutrals and intend to kit myself out with the honey, shell pink, tan, banana and cream vibes too. Springs need the splashes of colour to look their best though so I’ll chuck a bright paintbox scarf over it and buy some colourful necklaces 🥰
After doing this, does it make you want get rid of some of the colors in your closet you thought were the best fitted for you?
I'm a HOC summer, and most days I only wear a summery lip color I am that confident. My colors WORK overtime for me. 😂

Southeast Asians are often olive which means we can lean cool. I am a deep winter, as the others are just a little too high contrast and bold for me (you see the color before alive even walked in the room😂).

I had my colors done back in the 70’s when there were 4 seasons and I am a winter. Now I have been trying to figure out where in the spectrum I am in winter. I was the only one in the color class that looked good in yellow and orange as well, I figure I have to be on the cusp of a warm season so not a true winter. I have very neutral skin tone as well leaning a little cool and my eyes are hazel so by way of elimination I have decided I’m a dark winter. Light skin dark hair neutral skin hazel eyes dark rose lips. If I do wear yellow or orange I have to adjust my makeup but usually get compliments. But stick mostly to my colors and I was very young when had colors done so have always bought silver white gold or platinum jewelry. Because even the most expensive gold jewelry looks cheap on me
Try draping yourself in natural light (not direct), and see which colors really resonate. I did it and found royal purple was “my color”. Also, the deepest colors and coolest whites were fantastic on me but brights were far too overpowering, raspberry not fuchsia, chartreuse not lime, basically. Warm colors look okay on me but I noticed they made me look a little sallow, not tanned. Check to see if people are complimenting the color or you in the color (I love that color versus you look great today)

Your make up, haircolor and top looks good for autumns but not for winters. I know it's a process, enjoy it.
The top is within the winter palette because of the print mix with black and her lip is close enough to a true red but her hair color is definitely autumn and far too soft a color for a true winter.
Just can't connect with her now, I was inspired by her hijab looks way back when she started. Actually my opinion doesn't matter if this is what makes her happy now. ☺ she is beautiful anyways. Wish her best in life ❤

Now you need to go back to your natural hair color, the extensions are too warm.
I think the house of colour doesn’t account for skin color. You can’t have makeup according to season unless the assumption is that everyone is white. Likewise your beautiful tan skin color looks good in gold jewelry, bracelets and earrings are set to the backdrop of your skin, not your clothes. The woman who did your color analyst also looks like a winter and on her pale skin silver jewelry does look on her but it doesn’t align with your skin color. Winters can wear taupe so that’s your beige color.
appreciate the science but it just complicates the shopping process. WHat if you like a certain colour but the style of the clothes is horrible. the colouring system feels like it'll be largely intuitive to each person when they're out shopping anyway
Oh not at all - it's made shopping SO much easier for us... tbh I haven't come across even 1 review of someone saying it's made life more difficult (and I researched a lot).
The good thing about all this is if you know what styles of clothing look good on you, you just need to buy those items in your color palette.
There is actually a. Orange that winters can wear. It's a pure hue, no white, grey, or brown added. I don't know why it isn't in the House of Color line up, when it is in other systems like "Dressing Your Truth".
You also have a style analysis which aligns the clothes to you and your personality. If the style of clothes is 'horrible' you don't buy them !
People do tend to select the colors that suit them best. I always gravitated towards darker colors of purple, blue, green and red, rarely orange or yellow. Was typed as a deep winter.

So what if she still wears the hijab on it? I think that so many Muslim women resist wearing the hijab because of this all or nothing mentality. She has removed her hijab, but might as well decide to put it back on in the future, and that's okay. Everyone has their own reasons and their own pace.
