      trust me, it's neat. i played around with it. a little, and it truly is neat. you don't even need any coding experience. the most you'll need it a quick little tutorial and you should be able to use the engine to it's limits in no time.

    Discovered this engine today, started playing Unreal Tournament '99 yesterday and decided I want to make a retro FPS.
    Thanks for making this video, I subscribed!

    You could also use a limited color palette to really give the game an authentic 90's feel.

    Whatever clicks for you! Game dev can be such a life consuming creative endevor, that if you're having fun and even get to finish something, make it however the heck you can!

    It's not about the engine it's what you do with it and it's tools.
    You don't need Cryengine or Unreal to make a good game.

    Awesome video. The game looks really good and I like the idea of the game. Those low poly PSX art styel looks super kool. I haven't heard of this engine before but it is good to see more engines being used to create games. Looking forward to your next devlog. Keep it up! :)

I really miss a good tutorial on this engine, I accidentally came across this video, and it looks like you can make my dream come true) I tried to study earlier versions of this engine, but abandoned it due to the imperfection of the project and the lack of clear guidance... please take a course on this engine.

    I don't mean to be an ass but the engine seems to have some limitations I'd find pretty unacceptable. For quick and easy fps creation I'd look into engines derivative of the Doom 2 engine, like GZDoom, although the engine struggle with vertical stuff (RoR, Room-over-Room) due to how level data is handled by the engine, but there are some fairly simple work arounds and 3D objects can be a bit tricky to figure out for the first time. Due to what Doom II is, adding weapons and enemies is pretty easy too. BUT you seem to be doing fine with what limited tools you have, so hats off for that and good luck with the Project!

    Its hilarious to me that people are already hating on this engine in the comments, you can actually do a lot w eFPSe once you learn it & know what you're doing.
    I guess people are jus gonna be upset about something, no matter what.
    Anyway, this project looks really cool. Love that you chose efpse for it.
    Its a great engine & level design tool, especially for getting ideas down quickly.
    Cant wait to try this game out :)

    Is this engine is capable of playing videos? I mean would it be possible to make an intro video or a cutscene video played by the engine itself?

    • @TannerProductions
      @TannerProductions  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've only briefly looked into this. It looks like it's capable of playing image sequences, and you can have animated menus if you first convert them to .vid files (never heard of them, but there's a tool developed by someone in the EFPSE community). However, image sequence can't play sound. That said, Vanyr - the game that made me look at EFPSE - starts with a video with sound and dialogue. No idea how they did it though, hoping to learn that at some point!

    • @Grungeuncle
      @Grungeuncle หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TannerProductions Oh, the .vid extension is kind of archaic. Not in use anymore, first encountered that in GTA vice city if im not remembering wrong lol. Only VLC supports / plays it. I thought it would be .mkv just like plenty of other engines that dont want to deal with .mp4 or .webm licences. Btw, which version do you use? The CE community one or the original? Because I could not find any documentation file for any of those, I though supported format could be written somewhere.
      If you ever check out that feature please make a tut video! Thanks for the reply!

    • @TannerProductions
      @TannerProductions  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Grungeuncle I have used 1.10.5 CE version so far. Most of the community recommends using the more recent dev builds available through Discord and GitHub, but I just wanted a stable base to experiment on. There's a good chance many of the bugs and shortcomings I experienced have already been squashed in the more recent builds, I just haven't tried them yet for fear of corrupting my project!

    Smaller and more focused engines are still far much better than using a large, multipurpose, bloated, overrated garbage engine like Fortnite Engine (I refuse to call it "Unreal" Engine 5 anymore after Epic delisted the Unreal game franchise).
    Bigger and more advanced is not always better. Sometimes it is arguably worse and less reliable. An engine for everyone may as well be an engine for no one.

    • @ran4erep

      @@reasonable78 no, it's very constructive. I tried this "engine" once and it lacks literally everything. All you can do with it is Wolfenstein 3D clone with 3D models. And after realising that I switched to GZDoom. Which I advise to everyone else too instead of this useless piece of software
