I have seen her perform this song in concert countless times. She puts the same emotion in each and every performance. This was a wonderful concert with the Edmonton Symphony around 1974. So glad she's still singing and bringing so much joy to the world......even with a tear jerker like this one. Wonderful.

Vickey Carr has a very powerful voice to this day! She was very famous in the Philippines during the 60's when I was in elementary school. I was 6 or 7 when I first heard her sing and until now I'm still in awe! WoW time surely flies. . I just loved her sing! Thank you You Tube! Thank you Ms. Carr! You are the best!!

The preceding week the song had entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #89; a little over two months later on July 12th it would peak at #35 {for 1 week} and it spent 13 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart...
Between 1967 and 1971 Ms. Carr had seven Top 100 records; one made the Top 10, "It Must Be Him" at #3 in 1967...
Ms. Carr, born Florencia Bisenta de Casillas-Martinez Cardona, will celebrate her 76th birthday in two months on July 19th {2017}...
* Two other versions of "With Pen In Hand" have made the Top 100; Billy Vera {#43 in 1968} and Bobby Goldsboro {#94 in 1972, and Mr. Goldsboro also composed the song}...

I first became acquainted with Vikki Carr and her beautifully full-throated voice when she guest-starred on the Carol Burnett Show in the late 1960's. Dean Martin said at the time that she was the "best female singer in the business". She's a beautiful and lovely lady and it's so nice to know that she is still with us today.

Almost 40 years ago I heard Vikki Carr live in Mexico City. I was in tears the entire concert. At the end of the concert, a camera person saw me crying and asked if I wanted to meet her. I was taken backstage, and was introduced to her. She's a very nice person, too. I had such a crush on her! All these years later, it's still one of the greatest thrills of my life!! I will never forget that night.

I don't know how she could have gotten through this. I know she was going through a divorce at the time. When she sings 'And tonight when you lay in that big lonely bed. And you look at the pillow where I laid my head...', well I can hardly get through writing this. I went through my own divorce 12 years ago and it was the most devastating experience of my life. It still hurts and I've been married to another woman for the last 10 years. Society says you should 'move on' and 'not live in the past'. I say: You have no idea what I feel.

Just couldn't agree more. I was a singer and aged just 20 when "It must be Him" was released and had really just begun my career in the music busin4ss. I sang the song because it was popular and because I loved Vikki and the song butas much as I tried to relate to the emotion then, I was just too young. 40 years on, after 2 divorces I could do it, but the voice has lost it's power now! Vikki Carr, definitely a singer's singer.

In 1976 I bought really nice stereo eguipment from the PX in IWAKUNI JAPAN. That is where I found 4 Lps by miss Vikki. Many years later I still play them on my Pioneer turntable.

I've never seen any singer cry genuine tears like this without allowing the tears to change the quality of the voice production. Tears are almost always accompanied by tension in the jaw and throat and the larynx loses support (so vocal quality is temporarily impaired). Doesn't happen here. What an amazing artist.

3-25-2018 is the first time I remember seeing this song performed by Vikki Carr, she had to have lived the lyrics to end up crying during the performance of this song. It is the hope of the artist to convey the emotions to either fall in love with someone or experience sadness. I am sure there were many in that live audience, men and women that had tears running down their cheeks, especially with the lyrics involving children. I consider this the very top performance ever by anyone.

When I was a kid she would appear on the Jimmy Dean show and sing and cry and I fell in love with her voice and delivery. She feels the music which makes you feel that music. Try her Spanish CD's. Don't have to know the language to feel the raw emotion. Just lay back and enjoy.
