When i saw that interview, I'd been away from NZ for about 17 years. Had never heard of Paddy Gower. I still cannot fathom how someone as stupid as he made a very good impression of being, could have made his way to a position of prominence in his field.

As an old white guy who along with the vast majority of this country had embraced the Renaissance of Māori culture as central to our national identity and civic rituals. Never in my life had I seen Maori sensibilities and language more integrated into the popular culture of this country - but never have I seen such a fraught and brittle racial animosity which to me comes largely from some Maori political elites as living it some racist hellscape. It seems the more we embrace things Maori the more they hate us. This of course begets a political push back. Have these people never heard of positive reinforcement? Just one iota of recognition and encouragement to the majority culture of the profound changes that have been embraced? It seems all we get is an endless diet of criticism and agist racist abuse. That truly sad thing is all this progressive social change is on the brink of being destroyed. For what exactly?

It's very sad...i have lived in NZ for 30years...this is my home...and it definitely has gone backwards...as a progressive society, we should focus less on things like Race & Gender ideology...which are still fundamental issues to some other less progressive ones...doesn't matter whether they are developed countries or not...
I have travelled to 66 countries & i rate NZ is the best in its treatment of the Indigeneous and may i call it "Positive Discrimination" 😊...which is wayyyyyy better compared to how the Aussies treat the Aborigines or how the Scandinavians treat their Samis or how USA treat their Native Americans....
yes i have witnessed this during my many years living here..including when flatting in Dunedin...e.g My Kai Tahu flatmate Kori was studying Physiotherapy & got full scholarship & allowance so he didn't have to work, whereas my 2 Pakeha ones (Vaughan & Michelle) were doing Commerce & Zoology and both had to work at BP & The Warehouse as they get no financial support...
Race was not an issue in our flat & no hard feelings..we all got along fine...except when Kori the big skinny boy finish the whole loaf of toast in one day 😂😂😂...

There are no pure blood Maori in New Zealand. There never were. Maori were not called Maori back in the day. Maori means ordinary or common. It's a Victoria term called commoner. And even back in the day Maori were inter marriage with Colonial white men and women. Where ever Maori went they inter married so there is no such this as Maori. it was colonial missionaries that taught Maori to read and write their own language. There were many pro Colonial Maori back in the day. Ngati porou and te Arawa. As well. Many tribes did not sign the treaty.
He could always try to become an investigative journalist and find out the names of the shoplifting accomplisses and what other crimes they committed. Maybe he already knows the answers.
