4:50 awwwwwhhh i love how brad props up his little leg on you. that's too cute.
He loved doing that :) such a cutie !!
I get so excited when I get a notification that you've posted a new video. Love your channel and seeing Brad❤😁🐱
Thank you!! He’s being extra cute in this one :)
Same
Came for the questions, stayed for Brads back leg placement 💙
He is the cutest 😻
Love these longer videos! Brad was sooo cute in this one, such a well behaved boy!
Thank you :) glad you like them :)
31:19 Kindness overload! You are my planty favorite 💖 People are definitely defensive about their need to eat animals so you are absolutely right to avoid that arguing. Bradley is the perfect Q&A partner.
Thanks :)
I have to say you really have a gift for being concise. I appreciate that a lot. I do love a bit of a chat too but with topics where there's a lot to take in, your way of speaking makes it so clear to understand and remember. Thank you for that.
Hehe thank you!! I always feel like I'm waffling on and repeat myself but maybe that repetition is important to someone who's new to the subject matter :) so thanks for letting me know :)
The way your cats laying with his foot on your leg had me dying.😂😂😂😂 He’s definitely taking ownership of you❤
He demands the belly rubs haha :D
Brad!!❤ He’s just the most adorable.
Great Q&A session thanks Jan ❤ It's a pleasure to listen to you😊 Wise decision to avoid topics that bring conflict. Who needs it, but it seems that some people actually go looking for it. 🙄 Loved your closing conversation with Braddles😘😽
People LOVE conflict on the internet (because it's easy & anonymous) so better be extra careful. Some content creators love conflict because hate=engagement. But that's just not the way I want to live my life .... sounds stressful :D
Your "rant" (for lack of a better word) during the manjula question, regarding humans/naming things, was as insightful as your plant growing tips are helpful. Your content (and the time/energy you put into it) is very much appreciated.
Loved you and Brad. So sweet, you together discussing how much you care for each other. It is so obvious that last question did not need to be asked.
hehe i think it was just a trick from my viewers to get Braddles on screen :D
Loved this and finding out you’re vegan is a nice bonus 🌱💚
Thank you:)
Love your teaching style, don't change, I've learnt so much more by how you explain and by being more observant when you've said why something is important. My climate is so different from yours(Rockhampton Qld lovely and cool now at 23°low to 33°high for over a week) that I have to adjust what you say to suit here. That's why your 'principles' approach works so well for us all. Thankyou for your generosity in sharing.
Terracotta is also super good for cacti and succulents not so much for the tropicals
Hi Jan! Thank you so much for the video!
There is more of us vegans than you think! And I'd love to hear you talk more about it and spread awareness. But I also understand that you want to keep your sanity safe haha. I'm very happy to see you being so connected to nature, not by just saying it, but by employing a lifestyle that is best for conserving the little nature we have left on this planet. You seem like a very empathetic and kind person!
I reckon the planty community has an above average % of vegans 🙌🥰 thank you so much for your nice words :) very much appreciated :)
We appreciate your candid experience & honest outlook Jan!
Yayyy Brad! Love that he also chooses to lay in the most uncomfortable positions and pretend it's the comfiest thing ever
Also love the Brad plushie (I've decided to call it Chad)
😅
Hey Jan, my partner and I watch you all the time and really enjoy your videos. I just had to comment about the Vegan thing; we are vegetarians rapidly heading towards being vegan, for the same reasons, we love animals too. We both like you even more now! ❤️
About the pests, I think you do a lot to prevent pests, i've seen a lot of people have big pest issues but they haven't really done anything to prevent that. I've had a lot of thrips but since i'm keeping my plants healthier and cleaner the thrips don't really bother the plants that much anymore, Love your content, Thank you and Hi! from the Netherlands
That’s my experience too, glad I’m not the only one :) thanks !!
I’m quite a new subscriber, so it was a very happy surprise when I heard you were vegan! Eat plants and grow plants! 🌱❤ Love your videos and your beautiful Instagram! Kitty cuddles!
Thank you:)
I was already such a big fan of you and your videos but I have a new sense of respect and admiration for you after learning you are Vegan! 💚
I don't blame you for not wanting to speak on it. Veganism is such a triggering word for people. But I simply wanted to say THANK YOU for making this world a better place, not only with your plant videos but with your diet choices.
🙂
Thank you :) Honestly being Vegan is such a non-negotiable I can't really understand how somebody could NOT be vegan ... :D but then of course we all have our own biases :P
I’ve been growing plants since I was about 7. I’m now 60 and I still see plants that I have never seen before. I’m excited for your journey of discovery.
That’s what makes this such a great hobby!! It’s a never ending learning curve 🥰
Growing Spaghnum moss goes pretty fast if you want. You can even revive old spaghnum moss if you have a transparent box and its warm, humid and got a good amount of light. The german youtuber Crazyplantboy and Detlef Römisch did this already and used their own harvested moss. :)
Tapwater also have stuff in it like chlorine, that disappears through the air if you let stand the tapwater in a open vessel.
I have moss living in my poles.
Hey man, I would love a video where you show your entire grow light setup!
Thanks for all the videos!
Hey :) i have videos on all the lights I use :) just not in one combined video :) they are linked in the description :)
Thanks Jan, you hit the nail on the head with overstimulation watching too much plant content. I thought I was just getting annoyed because the information was frustrating, but really just TMI. Thanks for expanding, I can really relate. ( Love Roos content too, for her beautiful easy going personality)😻
Hehe I'm contributing to the overstimulation I suppose :D I've been posting 3 things today :D thanks :)
Nothing better than a man who loves his cat!🐈 So freaking cute!!! 🥰
😻😻
🫶 I am also vegan, thank you for the video 💚🪴💚🪴💚
Yay! It's the best :) thank you!
Loved this video and when Brad rested a leg on your knee. I’ve converted most of my philodendrons into Lechuza Pon and I love the Lechuza self-watering pots. I’ve found Pon is easier to get right so the plant doesn’t sit in a wet medium for too long. Most of my hoyas are in terracotta pots in a potting mix I make for them. They are happy.
🌟✨Love your plant content! I didn't know you were vegan. I've been vegan for 11 years, it's always nice to learn that people I enjoy watching have similar values where animals are concerned! 💖✨🌟
Agree :) great to see so many of my viewers being vegan too :)
Jan, you know we are going to watch the whole video!! at least I am !! its 5 am and I'm up watching your videos cuz you motivate me !! thank you for consistently posting!! also brad is so cute lol
Hehe thanks so much for the support :)
Very helpful! Realistic advice. Sharing your experience is a treat! Thank you ❤
Thanks :)
Do mealies as the bane of my existence count as a problem?Thank you for this, not only for your knowledge BUT the other issues with plant parents.Sometimes my mealies dont seem so bad at least i know how to handle them. Are you getting exited over your moms visiting? I am soo happy for your new home and plant space, its beautifully!!!+❤ Take care and BE HAPPY!!!
Two ponytail palms 3 yrs old side by side 1 w/mealies the other without, wtf selective menu?
Loved this. Thank you.
I did a puzzle 🧩 while listening.
15:45 - 100% relative humidity is the point when the air can no longer hold any more water vapor. As a result, condensation forms. Warmer air can hold more moisture, so for the same amount of water vapor, warmer air will have a lower RH than cooler air. Or the inverse, cooler air can hold less moisture, so the RH would be higher if air is cooled.
So seeing condensation in pots is probably one of two things:
1) There's so much moisture in the pot that the RH reaches 100%, and the air cannot hold any more water.
2) The pot RH is high, but under 100%. You take the pot into a cooler place like Jan described, and the RH rises to 100%. A similar effect happens with the "dew point" outside or in your car in the winter when your warm breath hits the cold windows.
Well you explained that so much better than me :P cheers !
Great video Jan 👍 Sorry to hear you are not feeling well ☹️🇨🇦
The problem is your plants are just so damn gorgeous we all want you to tell us “you must do this “ 😂
I use BEER for pests and it works. I make sure to cover the whole surface of the leaves, stems and I even spray a little bit on the soil, too. I also make sure I use it again 3 days after the first spray (eggs might not die and usually hatch 3 days after) and then I'm done. I usually get pests in the winter, about twice, so I do this process twice a year. I get most of my plants outside in the summer, but the ones that I keep inside, I have to treat them in the driest period of the summer.
If u love the pitcher plants u need to check out sundew and butterworts!! I dont have as much of a fungus nat problems at all!! My sundew bloomed this winter and i got lots of seeds and got 2 of the tiniest sprouts from them so far!!!
Defs wanna check them out :) thanks !
Ty for all this great information. ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching :)
I love these Q&A videos! Would love to hear more about you as a person away from plants, you mentioned a few things but I’m a sure you could expound on that more. Love love love Brad, he’s so adorable and fulfills his purpose by being cute and lovable! ❤ I don’t watch too many plant channels but you’re by far my favorite so just keep doing what you do! Always look forward to your videos, sometimes I get behind and then binge watch to catch up which is what I just did! 😅
Thank you:)
I love syngoniums... but also love monsteras and philodendrons too but syngoniums has to be one of my top picks
Jan his insistence on putting his little leg on you. He really adores you🥹Great Q&A I hope you do others 💚
And I adore him :) we make a good team!! Thanks !
Interesting Q&A. You have many beautiful plants and a range of greens, whites and some blue tones I’ve noted. Do you ever want/try more colour? Exotic plants appropriate alongside your existing collection have done beautiful reds, yellows, pinks and purples but haven’t seen you have any plants in these tones or with flowers? *except the more purple one on your dining table…
Definitely have a bunch with reds & burgundy :) I personally find yellow & orange colored plants look a bit sick so not super keen on them :)
I have had this idea for awhile now. But what if we made a group chat where all of us could post ideas, questions, pictures, ect. And Jan can come check out our posts and comment when he wanted to. Just like the cups on top of the moss poles, that is a great idea that i think a lot of us didnt think of. How does that work? How often do you fill them? How many times do you have to fill the cup to water the whole moss pole? Also, the question about the soil staying wet but the pole being dry, I also have this issue. Idk if the heavy cashe pot isnt allowing air flow to get to the plastic pot inside. This is something we could all brain storm on and share ideas. Does anyone else sprinkle a little rooting hormone (about 1-2 teaspoons) in their dry moss before wetting and mix it in all the moss? I am seeing to have a really good outcome with it.
Just an idea but i wanted to share. I apologize if there are any errors in this message, i have moss all over my hands from making more poles while I watch this video 😅
Let me know what you think. We could be SPG Groupies 😂
At the 1:00 mark precious little Brads leg kicked up on you... omg, how flippin cute is he?! 🐈✌🏽💚
Another great one. Bret knows how to relax.
Brad!!😊 He's so cute all stretched out with his leg laying on yours❤. My dog does the same thing lol. Brad loves you so much...what a good boy.
So sorry 😢that you spent all your time and energy, especially feeling unwell 🤧, only to find that your video is now not optimal, and now you are actually doing Q&A with your plant community! You deserve a trophy 🏆!! I don’t make videos, however, I have been learning from my plant community family members who do! I’m learning that you actually have to film hours and then edit, I’m learning the editing is the pain in your asses! 😅 I, for one, would have no problem getting a video in real time so that you wouldn’t have to worry about all the fluff that comes with editing!! Seriously!! I don’t think you have to worry so much about pleasing the audience and making the content pristine as only a few of you do!! Anyway, I hope 🤞 you can find some shorts for your last slow-mo video and I really do appreciate all that you do!! Thanks so much and take care of yourself, I just recovered from COVID myself- please give real time a visit! I’m sure you’ll find your following is here for you!! Ginger
OK. Same page with the eating animals. There are so many reasons NOT to eat animals… I can’t start with this. All I can say is that you have found yet another way to endear yourself to me- you are a plant teacher, a cat parent, a clean freak, AND you don’t eat our animal friends. Oh… and you can do a handstand. Jesus. Thanks for being you and thanks for sharing yourself:)
I get why to don’t want to go down that road, though. Your channel is refreshingly tension-free.
Hehe thank you :)
Thank you for all the info you shared with us! Since you and your kitty are in the mood to answer our questions this week, could you answer one of mine? I have a baby Monstera D. with no aerial nodes/roots yet. Should I wait for the aerial roots to come out to put it on a moss poll? If I put it on a poll now, will it motivate it to grow the aerial roots faster? Thank you in advance! PS: Love your room's color palette!
I never had luck with neem oil, I do use PureCrop1 insecticidal soap and I’ve seen it kill pests on contact but doesn’t affect the beneficial predatory mites I use in my pest management plan.
Thanks for the recommendation :)
Thank u for sharing I get what u saying about pest iv had them but I'm not fighting pest all day that will drive me through roof we have plants expect pest are around ...and yes I think online some people go through extreme the way they talk about these pest ..but best to all just enjoy life with plants 😊
love that attitude !!
You must be in a stable environment if yous seasons from summer to winter gradually cools.. i live in missouri and one day its in the 70s and next its snowing 😆 🤣
Really enjoyable video! I don't really laugh, but I do smile a LOT. (with your eyes moving left and right!) And, if you get two hoyas, you WILL get more.
Loving this video.. I have to say.. love Bradley’s leg flop over you ❤
the cutest!!
Hi darling, love watching your videos absolutely amazing hints & tips so jealous of your collection which just makes me even more determined to have a collection just like yours!
Quick question for you, come winter my Monstera Adansonii swish cheese always dies back on me after all the growth and attention I give it through out summer it’s heart breaking is there anything I can do to avoid this problem?
I’m based in Sydney Chatswood area any tips would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Hi Jan, I love your reason to go to Australia, I spend a semester in Melbourne and had similar reasons to go there (I´m also from germany, living in denmark now) I wanted a english specking country for ease of communication, and though England is too close and boring to go to and the USA are just not for me (too many weird problems to move there, even just for a semester), so autralia it was, never regretted that decision.
Thanks :)
Another question: How do you look after the plants when you’re away for a couple of weeks apart from having a friend water ?
Who can even afford to go on a couple of weeks of holidays these days ?! :D I do have a very old video on this topic: th-cam.com/video/d3iQB5JvjJU/w-d-xo.html
OMG I am so happy with your response to pests - leaf infected, cut it off , love it, I do the same. Re the hate towards being a vegan, that's sad. I'm a vegetarian but respect anyone's way of eating and respect everyone's views. If you talked to me about your views I would love the passion in that. One thing I have more of a bug bear about is people that bang on about the environment and then order a cow, the mind boggles. I will never do just moss poles I just know myself and the fact I would hate watering it all the time. I do have one very large one from grow vertical and have an even mix of tree fern fibre and moss (unaffordable with the amount you have). I water it every two weeks. I've decided to set one up for the Monstera Obliqua, hope it works. Have loved this Q&A
Thank you!!! Yes the ‘green-shaming’ is so toxic online somtimes. Nothing you can do without somebody pointing out the environmental impact these days. In itself that’s fine, we meed to be more concious of it, but sometimes I’m scared to breathe because somebody is gonna point out the CO2 …. :D
🐾your baby🐾 is so good and beautiful !✨
Great responses👌
💚🌿🍀🌵💚
Thanks :)
I didn't realise you were vegan. so am i. now I like you even more.
Is it possible if in the future you can do a plant shopping video at Bunnings
I’ve done a plant shopping video recently where I also went to bunnings :)
They make fish tank water conditioner that takes the heavy minerals and chlorine out of the water it's like 1 milliliter to 75 liter
How offen do you water your moss pole?? And do you wet the pole when the soil is still wet??
Im actually gonna try a monstera on a pole with no pot here soon.. i want to hang it on the wall so still trying to firgure it out
Omg I thought I was to only plant person that don't like hoya plants..I don't see any beauty in them n they're pest magnets that I see from my friends who have them..I usually wash myself and change my clothes after visiting my hoya plants friends bc I treasure my philodendron and anthurium plants much much n not want their pest to come home on me...love seeing that 4 leg angel beside you..
haha ! No we're certainly not alone :P Thank you :)
28:30 - vlog channel - I think having multiple channels comes down to focus and having enough content. I'd say businesses benefit when they have a clear objective or focus with their products and services. When I consider subscribing to a channel, there is something that pulls me in and makes me want more. I tend not to like channels as much that bounce around too much. When it comes to houseplants, I enjoy seeing the tropical plants that aren't typically grown in my region (natively, outside). A number of channels that have houseplant content also put out lots of gardening content, where they get into trees, shrubs, perennials, mulch, etc. I'm just not as interested in those things, so I don't keep up with those channels as much. Other houseplant channels may get into some lifestyle content. Sometimes these things can be interesting, but I subscribe to house/tropical plant content to see more of that content.
Variety is great to have, and trying out new things keeps things fresh and interesting. If the variety deviates too far, I think it becomes a separate type of content. Sprinkling some of these things here and there I think is fine. If it starts taking over the main content, that's when I think I'd look at having a second channel. And if there's not enough content to warrant another channel, maybe that's something better left alone for the time being. Then maybe down the road if you find inclusion of such content tends to be highly successful and you've got enough of that content (or ideas for content), you can kick off another channel.
54:00 - black and white care - I feel like you explain things pretty well and include disclaimers often that everyone's situation is different. I think sticking to a couple rigid suggestions can be good starting out, with the understanding this isn't the end-all-be-all way to do things. If you have no clue what you're doing, it helps to have a starting point. Then from there, adapt and figure out what works.
1:20:33 - in off light = enough light? - Sounded like a Mad Gab! voice-to-text?
1:27:42 - monstera rooting - Ooo, this might explain my situation where nothing seems wrong, but I haven't seen a leaf in a long time, haha
Like others have mentioned, I got a kick out of Brad being sprawled out with his foot on your leg. 🤣 Fun video!
Thank you for your comment. Fair point regarding the second channel :) certainly something I'll keep in mind !!
Took me till editing the video & listening to myself read out the question that I realised it was meant to say enough :D
Here to read cute comments about Brad ❣❣❣
Floof the boop 😊😽
😻
Learning heaps from all your answers , I have decided to buy Mother Grow light , I cannot find the your program where u gave us your advice on your favourite / best one ?
Please advise
I use the Plant Spectrum 32s :) www.mother.life/US/shop/plantspectrum/c2e509b3
Brad is so cute😺💚💚💚
the best !! 🥰
Don’t feel alone I am a vegan too ❤
Forgiven... after a couple of "moves" I can imagine you've got other things on your mind. And: "Can I use Timmy during my holiday 🤣🤣"
Thanks :P ... NOPE, my timmy!!
@@sydneyplantguy 😂😂😂😂
I dont see the point on a second channel for personal vlogs, honestly, when I’m subbed and interested, I’m interested in the human too, we could skip whatever we don’t want to watch like you said, I have trouble remembering who’s got second channels and they get lost to me
Had a bunch of people say it can adversely impact your algorithm so that might be why many have a second channel :)
@@sydneyplantguy oh I see, that makes sense
Veganism represent! I had no idea Jan was vegan, love to see it! Vegan for the animals always
Vegans for all the reasons !!!
Sydney plant Guy, just realized you talk with your arms a lot LOL! Usually, your hands are busy with plants ☺ Thank you for sharing your experience with your plants and I am definitely applying your emphasis on growing conditions to the plants (mostly succulents and cacti, some aroids) that I have!!!
Also, because of you, I've been more mindful about the plants I am acquiring and not just buying to have them ie I look up where they are from and whether or not I can honestly give them the condition they need to thrive!!!
That's great to hear :) thanks !! And how did you just realise I talk A LOT with my hands :D like A LOT :D put it on double speed & turn off the volume and it's like I'm dancing haha :D
@@sydneyplantguy 🤣😂
Is he called Brad or Bratt? He is so lovely 💞
Brad :)
Bradley’s leg 😂
Well i wouldnt eat my cat!!! Just a good juicy cow 🐄 lol everyone has their own oppions!! And diets... i love your channel!!!
Hey Jan! I've been growing my collection for about 4 years now. I was never attracted to Hoyas. They just didn't speak to me. Then, one day, I saw one that changed the game. Some of them have almost reptilian and / or amphibian- like patterns on their leaves that give super jungle vibes. Then they flower and fill your home with gorgeous scents that keep coming back. I still wouldn't buy most of them. But I love that I gave the ones I have a chance. ❤🪴
I'll keep an open mind but that hoya that changes my mind has their work cut out :D
@@sydneyplantguy 😆😆
From what I heard from some other youtubers if you will upload content that it's super outside of your usual stuff it can mess with algorithm and impact your channel/earnings. But don't know all the details.
Fair call :) thanks
Tree fern fibre ? Where did u find it please?
AJ @ growinggrounds and Tim @ grow vertical stock it :)
many people make different channels because of money and sometimes the maturity level of that content as of your content could possibly be posted to youtube kids because you don't do things that would be inappropriate for kids to watch and many adult content creators have a large kid audience but they are still an adult who wants to do adult things but doesn't want to loose a large percent of their viewers and money when they could grow their other targeted audience on a different account
Fair call. Thanks :)
❤
I'm trying to get cabinet what can we do for me to get one
I have tutorials on how I set up my cabinet on my channel :)
@@sydneyplantguy I m trying to buy one
Hey Jan, I just finished up a submission of my SPG Inspired plant collection and emailed it to you. I used that wetransfer service to create a link but it said it expires in 7 days so I wanted to give you a heads up so you can check it out before the link expires. Thanks for everything!
Hey :) I already filmed Part 2 but I can keep your submission for the next one :)
@@sydneyplantguy yeah perfect, last time we spoke you mentioned part three so that’s what I submitted for haha. Thanks and hope you enjoy my story.

If a potential partner wouldn´t accept your way of living with all these plants, wouldn´t support you with your hobby, it isn´t your partner. That simple is that. It´s your life, it´s your joy in life.
... tell me about it LOL Even vegans hate vegans :)))) I feel like a person of mixed black and white descent, who is not accepted on either side. I used to be enthusiastic about it many years ago, but now I hide it whenever I can.

You should run for a political office, your so fair😊
All the corruption would drive me insane :D
Yeah, hoyas aren't for me, either. 😂
You’re such a cutie Brad.
TRILLIONS of animals if you include fish.
Vegan house plant lovers unite 😂

I'd hope there's an above average % of vegans here :)
You are funny ‘wake up to a shit fight every morning’. We should all be more tolerant of each other, shouldn’t we?
