    Thanks so much. Everyone was telling me to get ride of my dryer and get another one. I refused. I love my dryer. I said let me go to TH-cam, they show everything and waalaa I found this video. I can now order my part to fix my dryer and keep it moving. Thank you so much Steve. You are the best.

    Thank you. This appears to be a common problem with your model, and the most common fix seems to be the motor relay.

    Hello,
    Sorry to hear about the issue with your dryer! You're right - the good news is that if the dryer runs while the start button is being pressed, the problem is likely not the start switch, door switch, or motor.
    It could be the motor relay, or a malfunctioning control or connection. Can you provide your make and model number? If so, I'll be able to better troubleshoot with you. Thanks!

    I have this exact model Kenmore. My problem is the dryer is starting on its own randomly. I realize the push button switch makes the dryer start, but only if the large switch on the far left of the panel is in a running position. Which of the switches is more likely to be causing the unit to start on its own randomly?

    Hi Steve.... Great video! I have an Estate brand dryer and it seems the start switch is faulty....I have the part removed (Part #3398095)....my question is how can I know for certain if the switch is defective? Should I check the voltage at the switch to see if that matches the schematic diagram numbers, and if not, would it be safe to say it's the switch? Thanks for your time!

      You can check the switch for continuity with a multi-meter. There should be continuity between the terminals marked NO and Com when the switch button is depressed. Have you checked the thermal fuse?

    My dryer (Maytag front opening with lint trap in the door) will turn on when the start switch is pressed, but will turn off after the button is released.
    Does this mean it ISN'T the start switch or does something else need to be replaced.
    (When the start button is pressed and the door opened, it shuts off, so I don't imagine it's the door switch.)
    Thanks!

    I have a Maytag Neptune that stopped working when pressing push to start switch. I remove the switch but decided to try it again when removed. Still did not work but when I touched one of the power terminals to the control panel housing the drying came on and when I removed the terminal from the house dryer turned off. So I figured it must be the switch. Only available switches were used and bought one from eBay. Installed and it doesn't but I know dryer works. Do you have any idea what is going on?

    Hi there. The problem could be the motor relay, or indicate a problem with a control or connection. If you can provide your model number, I can be of more help to you. Thanks!

    Hello, I seem to be having the same issue as Dana Miller. I replaced my neighbors heating element to include the rest of the switches that were attached to the element in the back. It was working great and nothing works but the heat. Infact is glows a nice red...anyway you can also hear the timer moving but no power seems to be going to the switch...I removed the back panel and cleaned out the back from the years of lint. When you push the button, it does nothing. The door switch I can feel that it does click. Can I use a ohm meter to check this switch out? and is there a video that shows me how??? Thanks

    • @Smalltechguy

      Hello Sir, Well it was the thermal fuse that was the issue. I cleaned out all the lint and advised her not to let it get this bad in the future.

    I have a amana electric dryer. I replaced all fuse and heating element and the dryer timer and motor, but when I plug the dryer in it makes a loud buzzing noise, not sure what it could be, but I am thinking it may be the push button start switch, any ideas would be appreciated thank you

      The Model # is NED5100TQ1 Thanks I tested the push button start switch and it has continuity, so I do not know what it could be now

      Allen White Check the wire harness connections to the motor. It sounds like the motor is trying to start on the run winding.

    HiCan you please help me? About 3 or 4 months ago I replaced the heating element and both fuses (but not the thermal fuse) It was running like new but today when I went to use it. I turned the timer and I pushed the start button and nothing. All I could hear was the timer and then I saw a glowing red reflection on the wall coming from the heating element. So my conclusion is; it is not the door switch because the heating element went on, neither is the start push switch, nor the heating element or fuses because it is heating up, glowing red (I had never seen the glowing red reflection on the wall before) So what could it be? the motor? but if it is motor, should it be a fail safe switch that prevents the heating element from going on if the motor fails? please help!

      +dana miller What model number is your dryer?

    • @danamiller7309
      @danamiller7309 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PartSelect Hi, thanks for your reply.I had already fixed it. I was kind of jumping step. I assumed that because the heating element was heating up fine then the thermal fuse could not be the problem, but then I said what the heck let me just make sure. I tested it and there was no continuity, I connected the two spade that go to the fuse and viola! I've already ordered the fuse (part # 3392519) I will be delivered tomorrow. Thank again for all your great videos.

    I have an old whirlpool dryer (gas) supreme 3 cycle model: 1A17801w2. When you press the start button, it makes a buzzing sound. If you continue to hold it down the dryer will finally come on. Now, it won't come on. Any ideas ?? Thanks.

    Hello, my Whirlpool dryer stopped working today and I came here for a quick diagnosis (hopefully). I have a Whirlpool model # LER8620PG0 and the 'Push To Start' button, which is also the 'End of Cycle Signal', doesn't have any resistance when toggling between off and on. Is this indicative of the problem you are describing in your video?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Park The only sure way to test the switch is with a multi-meter. Using the wiring diagram for your model, (this should be located inside the console), identify the momentary contact switch terminals used for the start function and test for continuity when the button is depressed.

    Can you please help me with my dryer. I turn the timer knob and it works, dryer starts drying, everything works great but the knob doesn't go back to zero. If I don't stop it or turn the knob back to zero it'd work all day. Do you know what could be a problem and how to fix it? It's WH01X10462 dryer.
    Thank you in advance.

      @partselect  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, It sounds like it could be your timer. Please supply your model and serial number and I can look in to this further for you. The WH01X10462 is the part number for your timer knob.

    What are the symptoms if this part is broken?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Celia and thanks for your question. The main symptom of a broken Push-To Start Switch is that the machine itself will not start. You can visit our parts page here to help troubleshoot your issue: www.partselect.com/PS11742178-Whirlpool-WP3977456-Switch-Push-To-Start.htm?SourceCode=15.
