My oldest grandson, who is nine, loves to look for eggs. He helps me to clean the coop too. It does take him from the electronics for a few minutes. He had named a chicken, as did his little brother. The oldest grandson’s chicken got egg bound. Because I didn’t know what to do about that, I gave her to a friend. The friend got the egg out and the chicken still lives. My oldest grandson got to name another chicken to claim as his own. He likes to say that my husband and I are farmers because we have chickens. LOL.
Great experience buying my Easter Chicks we are getting green eggs from the ones we bought last September 2021 and we just bought 4 more late February 2022 love them it is such a nice breed
That’s very true. My daughters love our chicky babies. My girls love to hold them and take care of them. I call my youngest who is 8 years old thechicken mom.
Becky, I saw you for the first time on Amazon Prime last year! You are so adorable and knowledgeable! I was nervous to raise “chicky babies” (I love it!) but when I started watching your videos, i felt a lot more confident. Thank you!!!
Our T.S. is expensive. They just hire kids...mostly girls...who don't know anything about anything. Glad your's is better than ours! We don't go there. We support our local, family feed store.
westmeathguy that's so sucky. Sounds like poor management and creepy men in charge tbh. The Tractor Supply near me is pretty much full of adults, men and women, but they usually know what they are talking about and try their best with advice, avoiding to give wrong information. I go there for supplies if i cant find it at my closer country supply stores, but I personally don't like tractor supply chicks, I've noticed when they are adults they randomly die and have extreme temperament issues, I haven't had any issues with that since I have hatched and raised chickens I know aren't inbred.
i agree our local is same way . I had to tell them that there babies were passing couse they was cold , he had no idea . they had a few dead in the tubes..and the rest were bunched up one on top off the others..he said wow i was woundering why they done that lol..dont shop there..
I run a Homestead vlog too and I have been loving your videos. I'm working on getting a larger homestead the way you recommended and I can't wait to get chickens on it! I've been learning as much as possible and this video is very informative. Thank you!!
Thank you for all your videos Becky. I’ve been binge watching and you’re simply a ray of sunshine! I’ve been contemplating raising chickens and you talked me into it. My 4 year old is so excited about building our coop and getting some chickies on our small homestead in the suburbs.
Hey Becky! So sweet chicks!!! And a big Store! We havent any stores like this one in Germany. Most of things for chickens we buy online from smal companys. We can buy one-day-chicks from big breeding companys, Germany have very big international Companys, but a lot of people dont like this. They look to find another homestater and buy breeding eggs there and made himselfe with a elektrik mother henn. Over the world have people old chicken breeds and this ist a chance to make it alive. Greetings from Hamburg! ❤️
Don't hang your heat lamp over your waterer. It will heat up the water and they won't want to eat it. I suggest hanging the heat lamp on one of the sides of their chick house and put the food and water on the other side so that they have a side where they can warm up and a side where they can cool down.
I’m an experienced chicken owner who hadn’t had a chick die in 5 years while ordering from hatcheries and local family owned stores. I decided to get chicks from tractor supply one year because it was the only thing available. I got 8. 2 survived. Absolutely ridiculous, as soon as I put them in their brooder they already seemed sick! They’ve given me the wrong breed chicken, a chicken with splayed leg, and a standard sized Cochin that was supposed to be Bantam. Also if you go look at the chicks in that place, a lot of them are either dead or looking very sick. One of my adult chickens got sick from eating those mealworms from tractor supply as well. I’ll never get stuff from there again after having multiple bad experiences.
Maddy 248 we go into our local tractor supply and take on the sickly looking chicks and they give us a deal. We take them home and nurse them back to health. We’ve only had two die out of the 10 we’ve bought.
Same my chicks from there die every time! We got some and shockingly one survived and when we put it in with the rest of our flock every single chicken died except it
This is really odd, Im absolutely not saying that youre lying because every store and state is different, but I personally have gotten all our chickens, food, etc from tractor supply and have never lost one. We have gotten wrong breeds and roosters out of pullets, but theyve been healthy and fine. Thats really odd how much of a difference stores can have. I hope you have better luck elsewhere!
Ive never gotten chicks from tractor supply but I’m going to try it next year. I got my first 15 chickens from an online hatchery and they all died. Not from sicknesses though. We didn’t have a good enough predator protection.
I am in support of Dumor brand food for animals. I have used dumor for my rabbits for years and they're up in old age now healthy as can be. About a month ago I bought buff orpington chicks and also went with the dumor chick feed.❤ They are all healthy and well.
Oh Becky, I so depend on our Tractor Supply store! They always have such knowledgeable associates and the prices are great! Great episode and so excited for their sponsorship to you! This was THE BEST, Most Awesome video!
We aren’t rich Becky!!! Tractor supply is EXPENSIVE!!! I personally rather support my local ONE STOP SHOP, I also feel like you are showing us all this but leaving out the PRICES!
Thanks Becky I have chickens and they live In a coop we are building them a run I love them poppy is my favorite she will stay with u all day long they are a bee and ploof ate a cricket that was alive till he killed it and ate it
After my ducklings were out of the rubber tub I didn't want to drill holes in it and used it to grow cattails. Got a little aquarium pump and run the water from the duck's pool through them, and they look great there.
Thank you for all your wonderful ideas. I am hoping to start a little chicken flock this spring, and all of your videos are so fun and inspiring to watch. The most difficult part for me is getting the right hen coop/run. I will keep watching. :D
Hmmm . . . I was told if you are feeding crumbles, chicks do not need grit. It is just an extra. The water they drink breaks down the food. In the years I have had chickens from chicks, I have never given them grit. Never had a problem either!
I love going to tractor supply to get my chickens food and supplies and of course buying them go to you and to buy dog food for my dogs and buy them goodies
I remember buying some chicks from one of my local farm supply stores we bought 6 2 barred rocks, 2 brahmas and 2 New Hampshire’s. Of course the store only sold chickens but we realized a couple months in one of our barred rock “chicken” was actually a rooster so that’s always fun, guess I’ll be expecting chicks now. Mine loveeee cherries and tomatoes ❤️
Such a good video thank you for making it! I'm trying to learn all I can so that when my wife and I get Chickens we'll be somewhat prepared. Your Chickens Playlist has become my go-to for info!
Jack Spellerberg if you haven't already you should look at BackYardChickens.com Its a nice site where you can post any questions you have and get answers from experienced people!
Great info. I love TSC myself. I'm going to get some americauna chicks today, to hopefully have some colourful eggs in the spring. Love your channel. 🐥🐥🐥🐥
Hi Becky my daughter and I love watching your videos! My daughter is Mara and she is three she calls you the chicken lady! Mara got chickens for her second birthday she loves chickens
when I was a child I looooved to clean and organize the chicken house. I still do... it is one weird hobby of mine 😂 if I was your neighbour becky, I would do it for free in exchange for some pies!
I don't know if anyone will see this but I am getting my first chicks in the spring and I don't know if I should mix the grit and the chick starter. Anyone know? also if anyone has any trips or tricks I would love to know! Thanks!
Laura you jut need a good food usually Purina a larger area and water and the bird make sure it’s medicated it can’t be organic get a heat lamp if under 50 degrees unless they look cold you will be good to go
By coincidence, I went to TSC today 9/15. They had about 5 or 6 varieties of chicks. They looked very clean and very healthy. However a little child had a large horn and he was banging it on their tub and honking it. The chicks looked lovely, dry and happy and active. I saw a small bag of mealworm for 10.99 and a larger 18.99 bag. Personally I purchased $3.99 saddle soap for my leather. My guess is Becky's cart of chicken supplies and babies were 'free' for her. I think she raises healthy animals and cares for them wonderfully. Some viewers may be jealous of a sponsorship opportunity. It is what it is, more education about what that store has to offer. My Walmart eggs today were $.55/dozen for large, it's a loss leader for them. Cheaper, yes. Healthier? And WITHOUT the Joy of Growing my own. I know 100% those Wmart hens were tortured in their deprived lives before laying my eggs for me. TX Becky for all Your Care, it was Beautiful. And, BTW, this channel is NOT a fashion channel, chickens don't care what your pants look like ~ Be nice.
My oldest grandson, who is nine, loves to look for eggs. He helps me to clean the coop too. It does take him from the electronics for a few minutes. He had named a chicken, as did his little brother. Thank you so much Becky! Love your enthusiasm and your love for your Chickies! ❤️🥰
I just enjoy all Becky has to share on raising chickens! Keep up the great work!
SO helpful Becky, THANK YOU!!
you can really see how much you love your chickens
Your the reason why i cant stop going to Tractor Supply. I bought my first baby chicks there as well. Thanks. Love your videos(the wife too)
You look beautiful Becky. Thanks for the great video and information.
You were great at promoting my fav store...and homesteading
Great experience buying my Easter Chicks we are getting green eggs from the ones we bought last September 2021 and we just bought 4 more late February 2022 love them it is such a nice breed
Great and educational video! Im so glad they sponsored your channel.
Thank you so much☀️❤️☀️
This video is perfection! I’m not even half way through and there is just so much information! Thank you so much for posting this!!

@@BeckysHomestead hey Becky I am a huge fan and you inspired me to expand my flock, thanks so much!
That’s very true. My daughters love our chicky babies. My girls love to hold them and take care of them. I call my youngest who is 8 years old thechicken mom.
Love this video! I can’t get enough of watching other people buy chicks! Mine are ALMOST laying age, and I can’t believe they used to be so tiny!

Yeah
Nothing wrong with ‘mostly girls’, but still doesn’t explain the crap management
you stated that they are KIDS, so you have to give them the benefit of the doubt, they are new

I have a feeling she won't take everything in that cart home...these days I don't trust sponsored videos 🤷🤷

Great video Becky, thank you so much.!!
Please you can start video and information about goats please
You don’t need to buy grit. You can just go down to a local clean creek and pick up a bucket of gravel , sand , and other small rocks.
We aren’t rich Becky!!! Tractor supply is EXPENSIVE!!! I personally rather support my local ONE STOP SHOP, I also feel like you are showing us all this but leaving out the PRICES!

We had our chiks without a heat lamp and just corn meal , they turned out fine
After my ducklings were out of the rubber tub I didn't want to drill holes in it and used it to grow cattails. Got a little aquarium pump and run the water from the duck's pool through them, and they look great there.
Your videos relax me so much ❤️
You deserve the world xx
I just got 10 today at tractor supply and they are so healthy and cute. I recommend for starters or additions
I wish our tractor supply had that much chicken stuff during chick days. I couldn't even get a feeder or waterer there. I had to go to orchelans

Are you doing a video like this for this years spring chick days?
My chickens and ducks and goose(they live together) go CRAZY for their meal worms!(: it's helped a lot with our close bonding!
Thank you for all your wonderful ideas. I am hoping to start a little chicken flock this spring, and all of your videos are so fun and inspiring to watch. The most difficult part for me is getting the right hen coop/run. I will keep watching. :D

Chickens eat way more than crumbles. They eat bugs, plants, grass and whatever else we give them. They need grit. ☀️❤️☀️
chickens don't need grit
They need it also because they sometimes eat the wood chips you use.
I agree. Chicks don’t need grit. I’ve never used it and never had a problem.
I've had my chicks for 2 years,first I had 15 , 4 died of sickness ;(.
I love going to tractor supply to get my chickens food and supplies and of course buying them go to you and to buy dog food for my dogs and buy them goodies
I so enjoyed your video. I have a question where do you keep baby chickens.
I just learned that there is a feed store near my house that has chicks and duck imported year round
Great info for newbies. Chickens are the best aren’t they!
I love your stone patio!!!
Hahahaha thank you. Chickens are the best. I just love them☀️❤️☀️
omg i never knew i had a tractor supply near where i live, now i can get some chicks :D
Tractor Supply has everything but the worse thing about it there items are too expensive😢😢
Itachi Uchiha ikr?
Yeah
I remember buying some chicks from one of my local farm supply stores we bought 6 2 barred rocks, 2 brahmas and 2 New Hampshire’s. i always love watching ur videos and thats great learning for me. i wish if we have this kind of store in our country. i love hens..
Your best video Becky.
Thank you so much☀️❤️☀️
Very informative video, thanks! I’m curious, what kind of accent is that you have where you don’t pronounce the “T”, in words like mountain and button?
Wouldn’t it be better if you set up before getting the chicks. Doesn’t the temp change affect them?
My chickens come out of the field and make a mess on my porches can I use the hot wire on top of the fence to keep them in. The roast in the trees.
Your videos are a Kiki and so informative!! ❤️
Thanks Becky:)

Thank you becky your a life saver 😁
Ca you make a video on ducks because I would like some tips before buy my ducks?
I don't know if anyone will see this but I am getting my first chicks in the spring and I don't know if I should mix the grit and the chick starter. Anyone know? also if anyone has any trips or tricks I would love to know! Thanks!

Becky I am a big fan watch all the vids but my chickens don't eat the meal worm
I wish I could find somewhere like this in the UK
