If you read contemporary leftist discourse from the 30's and 40's, there genuinely were a lot of tankies (though the term "tankie" didn't exist yet back then) downplaying the actions of the Reich, and the defense only went into overdrive once the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was signed.

And last night I watched Riverboat Jack react to Hassan debating Ethan Klein on Socialism vs Capitalism. Ethan is an honest actor and Hassan still did horribly. As in, those opposed to the government just want to replace it and force their views and policies on everyone "for their own good." Same shit, different pile. Nevermind that socialism, from the beginning, has been about democracy in the workplace. Under socialism, your annoying conservative co worker is still there, prodding. They get a vote too. But personally, I believe that when the workplace is no longer a dictatorship, people will become more progressive. The left will win on more issues. We are all very influenced by our environment, and who would have thought that workers would tend to be more reactionary under corporate hierarchy. Tankies have no faith in democracy or the working class at all. Like conservatives, they think they know best for everyone. And they don't even read the literature they babble on about.

As in, those opposed to the government just want to replace it and force their views and policies on everyone "for their own good." Same shit, different pile. Nevermind that socialism, from the beginning, has been about democracy in the workplace. Under socialism, your annoying conservative co worker is still there, prodding. They get a vote too. But personally, I believe that when the workplace is no longer a dictatorship, people will become more progressive. The left will win on more issues. We need to transition to a socialist economy by democratizing the work force, so workers will vote for their managers, and will vote on how to spend/invest the surplus they create. ie. Profits would be distributed. Ideally, a democratic government would facilitate this transition.
