Rewatching the series as an adult, I think I'm comfortable saying that this episode marked an improvement to the story overall. Anyone else here who found this to be the episode that made them love this show?

the tower interior protocol is slow to boot up most likely to stall code lyoko being triggered. and we are talking about tech from 1994 running software modern technology would take time to run
She runs starting in season 2 so I always have hated this as well. It's meant to be suspenseful but they didn't do a very good job not making it aggravating as well.
In one of the Previous episodes she travels to the forest area falling down the tower and as she walks off to the side the Target circle still lighted up without her even stepping on it, so it must have its own booting speed
You have no idea how badly I wanna slap certain gamers out there who say that new generation games should go back to the mechanics of the old days, where there were no save features and very little continues.
Yumi or Aleita. Honestly I can't blame them for thinking about it. Sacrifice a friend to shut down xana to keep the world safe or save a friend and continue fighting.
This is one of my favorite episodes for a lot of the same reasons many others have stated: it shows that this kind of life isn't all fun and games. There are high risks to being a Lyoko Warrior. We almost lost Yumi today, and if it wasn't for that program, she would have been gone for a very, very long time. That would have complicated a LOT of things, obviously. It's dark, and scary to think about. But I like the moral here: even if you fail a mission, just returning home with all of your group is a success in of itself. They might not have gotten Aelita back yet, but everyone's OK. For now, that's all that matters.
I think Ulrich is crazy and so brave.... I mean he's the one that always stays behind and almost gets himself killed! Cuz there is never a garantee they'll succeed in lyoko
JadeLei727 I think it's an error or they accidentally put it in instead of the normal opening. If you noticed, there are quite a few animation and sound mistakes within the first season. It's probably because they didn't have as high of a budget so they were limited on staff and time during the production of season 1. They also reuse clips many times though out the series as well. However while the quality of the show wasn't always great, just the overall narrative structure, story, and creativity of it all is what made the show popular.

Jeopardy Well in season 1 odd is limited to 10 per virtualization because that's what he subconsciously desired apparently. In season 2 and beyond he's able to hold up to 1000 or so the only drawback is the count dosent reset when he's devirtualized
Does either odd or geremy reload the arrows? I know in some episodes its geremy reloading them from the computer, but I also could swore odd reloaded them in other episodes...
Rewatching this episode, I actually find it pretty wild how close Jeremy can get to being imprisoned, for life even. If he didn’t have that lucky one time only materialization program Odd finished, Yumi would’ve been gone for good. Then who has the honors of explaining a child being killed in a virtual universe in a battle against a demonic artificial intelligence? Jeremy doesn’t know how insanely lucky he is that Odds goofiness helped him out MAJORLY this time

Not to mention, even if they did believe him, it wouldn’t leave him off the hook. Jeremy would still get nailed very badly with the authorities since turning on the Super Computer was his doing in the first place and they’d just blame him for that, which if he never did it, Yumi would still be alive.
Ulrich got ko'd was out for the count then finds out Yumi was in trouble he pulled himself up and went to Lyoko to provide backup that's a true bad ass and a great friend

This had to be a hard decision for the group, especially Jeremy and Aelita. They were so close, but they made a hard call to save Yumi. They're true friends.

I come back and try to find my old childhood cartoons to watch again. Watching them makes me feel something I haven't felt since I was a kid, and I love it. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?
we all watched this as a young adult or child. this show was on cartoon network, right? i think that's the one that aired it. Just like Dragon ball, yuu yuu hakusho and yugioh... these shows are our childhood.
"you only have seeing and hearing" i was about to object and say "but when they go to lyoko and land improperly, they feel the pain. they (presumably) feel the laser shots to their bodies. and the episode where odd hides underwater in the ice sector, he felt with his foot and he felt the cold of the water. and when odd almost fell off the platform in the tower, and ulrich was holding onto him, he could feel the weight of gravity and couldnt hold himself for long. HOWEVER at this point, jeremy still thinks aelita is just an AI. so she does at least only have vision and hearing, but she would be able to feel things too (even though apparently lyoko doesnt have weather)
Apparently, these laser shots merely push them back. The impact with the ground afterwards probably hurts. This is further supported during that episode when Xana possesses Nicholas and he makes monsters' shots deal real damage.

XANA isn't trying to destroy Aelita. It's goal in season 1 was to cause as much damage as possible so that Jeremy would launch as many time reversions as possible, making XANA stronger. XANA actually needs Aelita's memory in order to escape from the Supercomputer, and because of that, it needed to keep her on Lyoko before it could find a way to steal her memory.
+Seamus McKenna I like that explanation but then why are the enemies firing at Aelita in season 1 but they hardly ever do it in season 2? That Megatank could have taken her out and then X.A.N.A would have been stuck inside the computer. I mean if you can explain that away then I'll happily accept that because that's a very good reason, but to me it's always felt like they hadn't thought of an actual plot for the series until season 2 which is why there are so many inconsistencies.

Morbid thought: what if Jeremy's testing of the devirtualization program deleted or altered Aelita. Like what if half of her was materialized and half of her stayed virtual, so like the top half of her body came out and she was dead And her virtual self was severely altered.
It's why it was a test, the program was not actually using Aelita, or any of the scanners. I imagine the test failing like it would were it rain for real would be... quite the morbid sight.
it wasn't using the actual aelita , you gotta learn a bit about programming before you write something like this, in programming we write code called test cases , as part of something called unit testing , that tests the code of our program without actually running the code , and using actuall data , I imagine Jeremy used a similar concept , but I do not know the specifics of how that happens

I would be bothered, IF the implications were not explored and the revelations that she is actually human was reveled. But I have seen the show from start to finish. And as such, have no such concerns.

Season 2 begins in late january or early february because Aelita joins in the beginning of the 2nd term, they end classes in EP52 so from EP27 to EP52 it's been a couple of months, from January to early-July. EP53 is a new school year so end-september, meaning 2 full years. Season 4 begins in end-november. Season 3 ends in mid-november as in EP82 Ulrich's dad said their talk on the principal's office was last month, and the episode is set in december. Season 4 ends somewhere in March or April, so 3 years and a few months is the time they fought X.A.N.A. EP81 makes a huge mistake by saying they're fighting X.A.N.A. for a year and a half, but then again, the show does that constantly. Yumi is called a 9th grader in EP75, but a 10th grader in EP80 while she should be a 11th grader. Jeremie says he's an 8th grader in EP84 like in the prequel and throughout season 1, when he should be a 10th grader, he's called a 9th grader in EP80.

plot armour , as for an in universe explanation , he didn't count on having to use the program more than one time , so he maybe hardcoded some values (wrote them directly into the code , and not type them after running the program) that would otherwise need to be softcoded(meaning they are gotten and assigned after running the program) for everything to work multiple times , they said it themselves , there's only one Aelita
Remember back in the pilot episode(s) where they swore an oath of secrecy? Talking about XANA/Lyoko outside of the friend group was forbidden. This episode sees Jeremy, the leader of their group, screaming about a XANA attack in the middle of the night. Surely there are other sleeping students around them. So much for secrecy 😂.
Looking back I always did get the vibe that Aelita was the more “aggressive” one between them. I mean I’ve seen a lot on Tumblr and Reddit stating that she’s the dominant partner in their relationship

This episode showed what was really at stake everytime the kids entered lyoko. This created actual stakes in the virtual portion.

Morbid thought: what if Jeremy's testing of the devirtualization program deleted or altered Aelita.
Like what if half of her was materialized and half of her stayed virtual, so like the top half of her body came out and she was dead And her virtual self was severely altered.
It's why it was a test, the program was not actually using Aelita, or any of the scanners.
I imagine the test failing like it would were it rain for real would be... quite the morbid sight.
it wasn't using the actual aelita , you gotta learn a bit about programming before you write something like this, in programming we write code called test cases , as part of something called unit testing , that tests the code of our program without actually running the code , and using actuall data , I imagine Jeremy used a similar concept , but I do not know the specifics of how that happens

Season 2 begins in late january or early february because Aelita joins in the beginning of the 2nd term, they end classes in EP52 so from EP27 to EP52 it's been a couple of months, from January to early-July. EP53 is a new school year so end-september, meaning 2 full years. Season 4 begins in end-november. Season 3 ends in mid-november as in EP82 Ulrich's dad said their talk on the principal's office was last month, and the episode is set in december. Season 4 ends somewhere in March or April, so 3 years and a few months is the time they fought X.A.N.A.
EP81 makes a huge mistake by saying they're fighting X.A.N.A. for a year and a half, but then again, the show does that constantly. Yumi is called a 9th grader in EP75, but a 10th grader in EP80 while she should be a 11th grader. Jeremie says he's an 8th grader in EP84 like in the prequel and throughout season 1, when he should be a 10th grader, he's called a 9th grader in EP80.

plot armour , as for an in universe explanation , he didn't count on having to use the program more than one time , so he maybe hardcoded some values (wrote them directly into the code , and not type them after running the program) that would otherwise need to be softcoded(meaning they are gotten and assigned after running the program) for everything to work multiple times , they said it themselves , there's only one Aelita

This episode sees Jeremy, the leader of their group, screaming about a XANA attack in the middle of the night. Surely there are other sleeping students around them. So much for secrecy 😂.
