I’ve loved fondue since the late 60’s. In 1970 my new husband and I traveled to Europe and fell in love with the cheese fondue that we had in Switzerland. We bought a ceramic fondue pot (good for cheese and dessert fondues) and had it shipped back home. We almost always have fondue on New Year’s Eve. I love the chocolate fondue at the Melting Pot and if your guests aren’t allergic to peanuts, a small amount of peanut butter mixed in is delicious! We dip raw vegetables, apples and bread in the cheese version.

I have an electric fondue now....but I remember the ones with the candle. My Aunt had one back in the late 60's. My cousin and I loved it. When I was over we could hardly wait for her to help us make some. We were not allowed to do it because of the open flame, and we were quite young. I love my pot...and use it often. I make mine in my pot instead of on the stove. You can't turn them up very high because they get hot quickly. After my recipe is ready I cut it down to a 1 or 2 to stay warm. It's great for fondue, any dip you want to keep warm...and esp. when you are dipping candy around Christmas.

I got married back in the 70's and I think it was a law or something because that seemed to have been the automatic gift for weddings. 😋
I remember making cheese fondue and it was so much fun to find things to dip. 😉
The same with chocolate, it was amazing to find so many things to dip. 😁
Thanks for sharing this little trip down memory lane! 🤗

To everyone watching this recipe is amazing. You can also use chambord instead of

We used to have Fondue parties followed by monopoly or card games. But the fondue was a complete meal with 4 or 5 pots on the table of peanut oils, for the meats, and cheesy dips for any veggie, all cut to bite size; and of course, the dessert One of chocolate and cut fruits and cake like you did here. Not to mention, assorted cocktails, like Mai ties . It was clean, simple fun for families back in 1970s. Thanks Paula for the memory.

The Melting Pot is expensive but amazing for special occasions and it's nice everything is ready for you. I'm partial to cheese fondue. Also, once you deep your food into the fondue, you don't take it from the fork with your mouth. You put it on a plate and eat it with a regular fork because your mouth touches the fork and that's the same as double dipping with the same chip you took a bite from.
