Jake E. Lee, Rock & Roll Rebel, was an insane one!

Whenever I think of stretchy chords, the intro to “Lay It Down” by Ratt immediately comes to mind.

5 fret stretch in 5th position...yikes, what a pinky workout!

Lots of Ratt tunes! Morning after has some in it too.

This (Once Bitten riff) is a great demonstration on how playing the same riff with the fret hand further toward the nut really brightens up the tone versus higher up the fretboard on a lower string.

Aww yeah! Love me some Watchtower big fan of Helstar, too. Texas tech metal was the best.

EVH Stretch on Ice Cream Man solo. Also Jake E Lee stretch on outro solo, Bark at the Moon. Warren D.Martini intro to Lay it Down. Just thinking about it hurts my hand. As you get older it's harder to do. ROCK ON DAVE! 🎸

I was wrong. I swore you were playing 2 minutes to Midnight. But then I listened to it and they are so similar it's almost the same thing. I'm a total beginner, but these will help, saving this video.

David I told my wife if I ever meet you I'll be furious you didn't recognize me. I see you so much. Lol. Love your channel. Thank you.

No one stretched like Holdsworth. It hurt just to watch him.

Andy Summers did it one way early and the other way later. Early it was A on the top string... later it was how you learned it by ear. Queensryche! Yes! As I get older, these stretches get harder and harder... need to practice... thanks for the reminder

Great examples. I have been working on stretches like this the whole time i have been playing. The slow advice is the best.

Stev Vai in the DLR song Skyscraper, the clean harplike thing after the solo.
He needed to stick his from underneath the fretboard to fret the first string with two of those stretches.

As always great lesson Dave! Have you ever watched Dave Matthews play? Every one of his tunes at some point have the crazy 'Dave' chords in there... Crazy stretchy spider chords!! So fun to play as well! But playing his tunes before a show is always a great warm up, (I use message in a bottle also) Thank you much for the lesson bud!

Cool lesson and riffs. I noticed that it helps to sit in a classical position or if playing standing having a short strap, not Hatfield style. I also noticed that the pressure for fingertips come from the forearm, not the knuckles. Good stuff, thanks.

Very important advice from 18:04 about taking it slowly!

I have the hardest time with Born To Be Wild. I’ve been thinking my shuffles that way instead of going with first and third. I kid you not, I was just randomly playing the Ian Hunter version of Once Bitten. 😲 How crazy is that? Great lesson!

Yes! This was great! Watch the old 80's concert with Ozzy and Jak E. LEE. Jake's guitar solo has a slow picking part where he place hi thumb on the front of the fret board then stretches his other finger further down the fretboard, kinda like using the thumb as a capo so to speak. It's awesome. Great video!

Dave Mustaine has a solo on a song from one of their 2000's albums were he uses the same technique. He does something absurd like a 15 fret span

We all learned Message in the bottle that stretchy way but, I saw Sting perform it live and he wasnt using the stretchy way of playing it, but it sounded perfect. Its the Policemans secret ball thing from the stone age. had it on VHS tape.

yep - I remember that: he played solo w/a black strat . IT WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE !! - to quote DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH

uh oh. apparently, I remembered wrong. he's doing some stretching to get that third note with the pinky. oops!

I can remember having the surfing with the alien tab book and thinking there was a typo . My fingers just wouldn’t stretch far enough. Fast forward 20 years and some help form Dr Brewster and I can just about blag it. Typical of Late Night Lessons to reach the parts other beers do not reach . I do know that Bernie Torme could have done it with aplomb though.🇬🇧🤩👍

I hate stretch exercises. It is much easier to play sus chords by downtuning the E string to D.
