- I hate losing fish. The entire lot of Serape Tetras and Black Skirt Tetras died within four days. Ten of each. In all honesty . . . it could have been something I did, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Hey Ron, as we discussed in our chat earlier, i am flabbergasted on how 20 fish perished in 48 hours especially with nothing else in the tank suffering - thank God. Super bummer. But tomorrow is another day :)

Sorry Ron. I dont take chances with new fish, always keep running quarantine tank and I medicate. Lost once about 20large discus due to rush to put new dither fish in a 120 gal
Ron thats terrible. They should of made it up to you. Yes always quarantine new fish . But im guilty of not quarantine so i understand. Hope the rest of your fish dont fall ill. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Mark. I'm going back today with al lof the carcasas for a refund. Petco is supposed to have a good refund policy so it should be good. Now I just need a place to set up a permanant quarantine tanks🙂

Ron, after decades in the hobby, I'm convinced the damage is done before we buy them, and we have to watch the results unfold at our expense.

That sucks, I too have had fish die in numbers with no warning from big box stores. I don’t like buying fish from them anymore but sometimes it’s the easiest place to get them unfortunately.
We are so limited on suppliers here. But I guess I'm just going to have to go without, and maybe a bit more online.
I'm so very sorry to hear about this, Ron 😞. When I was new to the hobby, I bought many fish at Petco and as a result, ended up introducing myself into the world of learning about fish diseases very quickly. Never got a healthy fish from there. Neon tetra disease, columnaris, camallanus worms, lymphocystis, and ich. You can always get sick fish from anywhere else, too of course, and a qt is always a good idea. Sometimes though, we don't always have a spare tank and we have to do what we can, or we buy fish we think look healthy at the time of purchase only to find out soon that they're not. It's definitely not something we can always 100% predict, and I think you are entitled to your refund from them for sure. I wouldn't take fish credit. I think you're a very good fishkeeper. So sorry to hear of this. ❤️🐟
Thanks, Tara! I appreciate the kind words. Fortunately my experience down this road has been limited, and I'm not looking forward to having to find out more abouth fish diseases. Something I should probably give some serious thought to, however. I'll go tomorrow for the refund and we'll see how it plays out. Cash. No fish! Not from Petco. Take care.

Im so sorry to hear this. I got some endlers from an online breeder. I kept them quarantined for 2 weeks. Should've waited longer. Ended up spreading livebearers wasting disease among my endler tanks and lost many of my favorite fish. My neons in one of the community tanks started acting strange, and 2 now are fighting dropsy. Its rough. Ive only been keeping for 1 year. And i have never had fish before this. I was devastated 💔 😢 but i know it can happen. Thank yiu for sharing with us. I know it is hard losing them 😢

Hey , thank you! I really didn't even have time to get attached to them, and it's still not easy. I've only been at this about a hear and a half now. I kept fish when I was a kid, but essentially it's all new to me. I'm really sorry to hear about your losses too. We just keep moving forward. Cheers! ~Ron

I dunno if it’s of any help but in Australia when we get fish from different places (wholesalers) they absolutely fall apart and you can not mix fish from different wholesalers without them dropping dead for no reason. The only way to solve it was to Ozone the tank to kill the free floating bacteria because the theory is they are dying from the bacteria from different places competing with each others in the fish killing them in the process similar to how sepsis can kill someone if a few hours.
TLDR; Ozone the fish feed them good food and try and get them use to your tanks special culture of bacteria

@@garageaquatics2023 you can buy them online they can be a bit pricey though they are essentially a power pack that does a better job of sterilising the water then a UV steriliser but I haven’t actually gotten my hands on one to use yet unfortunately

It does suck to lose fish. No matter how many.
The far left towards the rear? This might be what you're referring to: Aponogeton ulvaceus. It was from a pack of five or so bulbs from PetSmart. It's really been a spectacular plant.
