Intellisteer Type S install/Review/fishing action

In this video I remove my old Rack and Pinion Helm, and install a new Type S Intellisteer system. This is a cable steering helm. I show a step by step install. Great video. I'm looking at something like this for my boat and I do not have hydraulic steering. How has the reliability been? I am on Vancouver Island and wonder how the electronics would fair in the moist wet winters here?

I am also on Vancouver island. Been great. Only had for the recent past season. The electronics are bolted under the bulk head so out of the elements.

I also have mastered fishing solo when others are not avail or just feel like my own time and space, it seems one is too busy with hands on rod, net and downriggers to hold the controller at the same time ? To make it worth it ?

I guess that depends on how close to your helm you are. Mine holding a rod while ducking under canopy is lame running back and forth. I wouldn’t not have this steering system now that I have it. You can hang it around your neck and you will always have access to it. I liked having driving abilities at the back of the boat. Cheers

Nope. Steers normally when not in use. If you fish alone this is a game changer. So happy I did this mod. Works so good. Cheers
