Gosh, you are getting so fast, Russell! Congratulations, and thank you for sharing such an exciting experience - absolutely love the sweeping leaning corners... Bri
Great Battle! It would be so interesting, if you could compare the power output of Slash with yours. And I'm delighted to recognize 2 new competitors in the kingsbury design class 😁 This is getting more and more exciting 👏
I didn't know this sort of competition existed! It looks much more brutal than motorcycle racing. I noticed Slash seemed to be pedalling a bit more in the corners than you, but I've no idea if this gave him any advantage... I guess that you don't really get any sort of slipstream tow with these streamlined bikes either. Very impressive ride!!
Wonder if you are ready to try:1) slightly higher gearing, you seem to top out at 32mph, 2) a steering damper on a very low setting, to smooth out the cornering.
Big thanks. As allways good inspiration. I'm I wrong or are You going faster and the Slash is getting in more troubles every each time you both meet on the track ?
Think 35mm slick tires (there are high-performance options in that size with as good rolling resistance as the 28mm models nowadays) would perhaps improve your performance by keeping more speed through the corners? Think the small increase in drag from the wider tires would likely be worth it on such a curvy track. Of course depends on what kind of clearances you have on your build too, but would perhaps consider something like 30 or 32mm tires then (if you don't already have that). Great video by the way! 😊 (Though windshield could use a little polishing :p)
The poor chap in the white trike at 18:41 must have had quite a moment when the two of you came past on either side! What I don't get from the videos is how effective your inboard wing mirrors are in giving you tactical awareness of what's happening behind you. It seems to me that when you and Beano are duelling, the person behind probably has a psychological advantage because he has a rabbit to chase, whereas the person in front is more or less time-trialling. I wonder whether a rear-facing camera, with a (reversed image) display approximately where your right wing mirror is might give better situational awareness?
Also, looking at photographs of Beano, Snoopy and Woodstock, I'm wondering whether the near-horizontal 'waistline' between the upper and lower shells is partly because the lower shell is laid up using a single width of one metre wide carbon twill. Am I correct in this guess?
I was the poor chap at 18:41. I could see them coming up behind me but wasn't sure which side Slash was going to go by so I just stuck to the middle of the track and let them work it out. I spend a lot of time looking in the mirrors.
It also seems to me that Beano is cornering at (slightly) higher lean angles implying higher lateral G, which means either faster or tighter radius. He seems to exit corners (slightly) faster. Marginal gains!
First time I See this. I Love it.
Crazy confidence and lean angles in those turns.
I admire your skills! Looks fun but terrifying at the same time.

Dude this is awesome!!! You're flying! The leaning looks so cool too. Have you seen the racing we do in Australia?

Just "Wow!" what a battle. :)

Does Slash coast through the couple of corners that you coast through? He seems to pick up about a bike length every corner where you coast.
