    I did this about 15 year ago - removing that aluminium air jet made a big difference to general running, as did setting the ignition advance to 36 degrees (rather than 38). According to my notes at the time, my setup is as per yours except for the needles as I've got 2c3 written down, but I'll have to check that next time I'm in the carbs. Super petrol only, and Champion N5C it seems happy.

      I ended up using NGK B5ES plugs that are slightly hotter than the N5C as I read the ethanol petrol burns cooler, the bike has been great ever since fitting them!

      @lukaepeluca Lukas, do you have a TMOC (Triumph Motorcycle Owners Club ) in Austria ? If not, perhaps join the TMOC in Germany, find them online.. I'm sure they'll have members in Bavaria or close to you. I just attended the Sommertreffen in July in DE. GREAT bunch of members.. You'll get lots of info from there and maybe see you at the next get together! Good luck with the scoot! Geo G

    ok mate i will go with the threes and check air jets r out,will let u know outcome my t140d has the original exhaust but with a reverse cone mega,i did get a pattern silencer and tried that but still wasnt happy hoping the 2a1 set up is the way to go,when i fitted peashooters to my t150v instead off cigars it cleaned up the plugs and feels stronger..

    Engine sounds great ,its running so much better Cliff.. reckon you've cracked it. ! did you change the plugs back to your usual for this run ?
    You always seem to be following a slow vehicle on those ring roads....it would frustrate the hell out of me not to be able to open it up and give it the beans occasionally .

      Alright John, I Took the Champion NC5's out and put back the NGK B6ES's, since the video upload I've changed the silencers again! It now has Dunstalls on that I'm going to test out tomorrow, this is like self torture haha I recon it will run even better than those peashooters though, we shall see!

      @@OldBiker I have to hand it to you ,you've sure got some patience and tenacity . I am very similar...like you I never give up or let anything beat me either. I know from past experience that there is usually a solution somewhere if you keep at it . When we finally solve the problem it gives us terrific satisfaction . yes I've always thought that peashooters look rather restrictive look forward to seeing a run with the Dunstalls.

      @@johncooper7242 I've been running peashooters on my 78 T140V for over 25 years (still on the standard mk1 carb settings) and it runs much better than it did on the original cigars (and sounds better too). I don't find them restrictive, in fact, if you look through one, you can see straight though the other end.

    I have a question unrelated to this vid in particular.
    Of your two bikes which has the more vibration I expect most would think the triumph but is that the case?

    • @OldBiker
      @OldBiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a few XS650's as well as the Triumph and a XJ750, but each XS650 is different, some vibrate more than others with the 79 model (my favourite one) with the least vibration, and that being said excluding the XJ, out of all the rest of the bikes the Triumph vibrates the least. The Triumph has also done the least mileage.

      @@OldBiker My 79 special also has virtually no vibration .I don't think that I have ever thought to myself crikey my hands or my feet are getting numb unlike the BSA Spitfire I had once which you couldn't ride 8 miles without stopping to revive your hands.
      i think vibration in an engine has a lot to do with optimum timing and fuel delivery .You can always tell a happy engine by the sound it makes bruuummmmm

    • @OldBiker
      @OldBiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Gareth it was the coil, all this time I've been stuck thinking it was the carbs, now I've converted back to the 2a1 setup and wait for it, I changed the silencers to the Dunstalls LOL, so if its nice tomorrow its a ride out to test them and see how the carb holds up!

      @@garethlipyeart6520 Hi Gareth Ii went with No3 slides in the end as the 3 1/2 was too lean and miss fired from pilot to the main system, after putting the No3 back resolved that problem. I believe having no air jet will make the mixture leaner, but having a look on AMAL website they have the air jet fitted in all of their recommended basic settings. Again more conflicting information when you are told to remove it for the 2A1 setup.
