Turns out, the sprites from the regular route were still present during the ending secuence. That made Kel follow Sunny/Omori to the car instead of "Something", leaving Hero behind. Here's some trivia: @20:00 that music that plays is a unique track only heard here. It's called ... "Playing Forever". It's a distorted, off-key child carnival type theme. Sunny has chosen to live in his childish dreams... "Forever", completely giving up on the reality of real life. Also, dunno if you saved there or not, but that room is called "Neighbor's Bedroom".
I'll still always find it funny when you're walking around the house and Something is just sitting at the entrance to the room. No jumpscares, no stingers, no spooky noises, it's just there like "Sup."
Some key differences between the true route and the hikikomori route with some commentary littered in-between. 1. 1:56: Basil's sprite is different. Here, he is headspace Basil which makes sense as Sunny/Omori has NO idea what Basil looks like now. In the true route, the sprite is actually "real world" Sunny from 3/4 years ago, flower crown and all, so how he really looked at the time of Mari's death. 2. 2:44: Omori saves Basil immediately here. In the true route, Basil gets sucked into his Something and the game asks you for the millionth time if you want to save Basil. 3. The Stranger has an entire confrontation with Omori here since Sunny refuses to see the truth, including a battle. In the true route, it cuts to Red space shortly after Basil is swallowed by his Something. You're also playing as Sunny for this part as opposed to Omori in the true route. 4. 13:20: There are Something Eyes here as you proceed north as Sunny, but no Something Eyes when you proceed north as Omori in red space. Also, Omori confronts (real world head space) Basil in red space, with all the scattered... appendages.... Sunny crawls up the stairs while Omori, who already confronted Basil, is waiting for Sunny in the hikikomori route. 5.In the hikikomori route, after Omori sits on the throne, it cuts to the real world segment for a while. So Sunny wakes up in his house during the Kel & Hero sleepover segment, eventually goes to the tree house, and ends the day in Basil's house. When he sleeps at Basil's house, Sunny ends up in white space with Omori waiting for him. 6. In contrast to the above, in the true route, Omori and the Stranger have another confrontation. 7. 16:00 Here, you're with Basil again and he leads up the stairs. I actually just noticed this, but the way Omori was on the ground was probably very similar to how Mari fell down the stairs. Also, this part is very similar to how Basil and Sunny carried Mari up the stairs together. Then obviously there's the whole sleepover in the room at the top of the stairs. 8. 25:24: Even though you're playing as Sunny, the reflection shows Omori. And then obviously Something is just chilling with Sunny all day. And, since you actually do your chores, you can see a lot of the childhood objects/toys that inspired headspace (pinwheel, sprout mole plush, guide to our solar system book, the kid and his kite book, sweetheart doll, hungry humphrey book etc etc). As an aside, the food pyramid book representative of the food pyramid/Dino Dig in Orange Oasis - there are bread monster, vegetable monsters, poultry monsters, etc. 9. 35:49: You're Omori when you enter white space this time, and during the transition from the real world to white space, Sunny melts away. 10. 38:10: Red Hands!! A fantastic ability and one of the few abilities you can only get on the hikikomori route. 11. 39:08: When Sunny wakes up, he's in his own room instead of Basil's house for obvious reasons. But, considering what happens at Basil's house this night... well... 12. 42:25: You actually get to leave white space at this point and venture back into headspace for the hikikomori specific things like The Abyss and Snowglobe Mountain. There's also Humphrey (resurfaced) if you like... battles... and also the Lost Library where you can get the rest of Omori's hikikomori route only abilities. 13. This one's just related to your playthrough but nobody can blame you for thinking that the game is repeating itself.... I mean, you're kind of right. The headspace resets with a couple of change: ie Basil being safe on Mari's blanket, forever save, just like Mari. 14. 50:41: You'll probably want to put that Flower Crown on someone. 15. 54:00: I'm so glad you didn't save after you decided to sleep until morning. The part where you choose to sleep until morning is basically you saying "Yep, I did all the other optional content, let's finish the game." 16. Like you noticed at 56:26, the neutral ending plays out where Sunny doesn't visit Basil in his room that night, either through going back to sleep or just going home. 17. Even though I chose to play the hikikomori route first on purpose, I love how I could play 20 hours of the game and understand NOTHING because nothing is explained. It's just a weird adventure with hints of trauma, but the player doesn't know why. I loved being able to play it that way, because when I played the true/Sunny route, everything clicked right away and it was fantastic for me.
@@CounselorPlays Once you head back to do the new Headspace things you will have reached the meat of the Hikikomori route. Also, after doing the 3 things in the Lost Library, I recommend checking the White Space laptop for something...interesting.
The thing about Sunny and Omori is that Sunny doesn't fear Omori. Sunny WORSHIPS Omori. Like in the stairs scene, he crawls up in desperation, BEGGING Omori to get rid of the pain and make him feel better. Sunny thinks that he NEEDS Omori. Stranger is like an oppisite of Omori, he tries to guide Sunny to the truth. The Stranger fight is a last ditch effort to FORCE Sunny to face the truth. Sunny, desperately avoiding the truth, CRAWLS to Omori, so that he can save Sunny and take him back to his comfortable ignorance.
im actually screaming i live right next to a fire station so sirens are pretty common around here and as soon as you picked up the “duets for violin and piano” book i heard faint sirens thought it came from the game until i heard them fade down the road like goddamn the timing
oh there's a LOT to explore in whitespace after this haha, don't be afraid to look up spoiler-free guides when you need to (be wary of the spoiler-filled versions of course!!) I know I needed guides after wasting so much time being confused 😭 best of luck going going further into this!
So with the entire scene of them telling each other about how much they mean to each other, I know why he would do that. I make many fake scenarios and they are all to comfort me. When I'm feeling lonely I do that exact thing. I make them say what I want them to say. that we will always be friends and be there for each other no matter what. When I'm anxious that they will comfort me and ill try to be better because of it. We'll group hug. We will truly show what we mean to each other because that's what I'm hoping real life will be like. I don't care if it's cheesy because it's what I need in that moment. I need that comfort that maybe it's true. Maybe I'm not an annoyance or burden. It's what can get me hope. It's the only thing that can get me through the day sometimes. I can relate to Sunny in that way. dreaming is a way I cope. signing off, a Hero, Basil, Sunny, Kel, and Mari kinnie (partially Aubrey too) and no i am not ok
Fun fact: try checking your menu on moving day or the night before moving day (i think). There’s an option that can give you an ending exclusive to the Hikikomori route.
fun fact: The part in which Omori and his hand throne is (after loosing to Stranger) is called commonly called Red Space The Red Space also appears as a "Eerie Red Glow"
7:14 Didn't we also see Hero with the Afraid status whenever the group battled any spider enemies in Pyrefly Forest? And now that I'm thinking deeper, didn't everyone besides Omori become afflicted with the status when they fought the Something on the train to Orange Oasis?
You are right! And in several hikikomori only fights, the whole party is afraid except for Omori who is, for obvious reasons, immune to the Afraid status. Sunny sure isn't though.
Basil's something looks rather a lot like the clump of Mari's hair on the floor, doesn't it? So the Omori something is like Mari's hair when she hung from the tree and Basil's something is like Mari's hair when she's laying at the foot of the stairs. They're both kind of seeing their own sin behind their friend, at least from Sunny's perspective. We know Basil is seeing a something behind Sunny from the good ending confrontation, but we don't know if it looks like Sunny's, since we're seeing everything from Sunny's perspective.
I really respect that you left the name ''Sunny'' alone for both playthroughs. If i'm completely honest, i don't know if i agree with the decision to let the player name the main character in this game since it's so tied to an actual real life lore that's supposed to be taking place within the game.
That's why you can't rename Link in botw. It's directly tied to the fact he has amnesia, and his name is the _only_ thing that he knows and remembers for sure.
17:24 This part HURT after knowing the truth Spoilers for the truth (although you should already know it lol) Sunny carried Mari up the stairs after she fell and put her in bed because he thought that she was just resting. That will always be the saddest thing in the game for me.
I didn't know about my trauma till someone told me it happened. From there I've been working backwards from every emotion and feeling I've ever had to try and understand my past. It is a very surreal experience.
34:11 sunny getting revenge after years of something being behind him. now sunny is behind something. edit: by the way... there's a lot of new headspace content in general, but there's one specific thing i think you should do; search around the deep well for sheet music. once you have three, return to the lost library and place them on the piano.
Oh ya the pinwheels. If you look around the neighborhood there are pinwheels in all the areas that the group spend time in, the front and backyard, Hero and Kel's house, the secret hideout, a place next to the road where they first met Aubrey, Aubrey's house, and then Aubrey places a pinwheel on the tree stump where Mari supposedly commit suicide. So they are probably the ones placing them everywhere. Its also why the Pinwheel Forest appears in Headspace. Each color represents someone in the group.
I threw away the book on Piano and Violin Duets cause I thought something like that would be extremely triggering for someone trying to repress their trauma. But then I learned that was wrong when the game said I could’ve sorted through my stuff better.
I'm kind of impressed you rolled a 13 as your WTF Value this time. But, yeah, "Return to White Space" is the option you choose if you want to complete some of the bonus stuff that's now available. The entirety of Headspace is now open, and there are some new quests and areas open, including some areas that were made off-limits due to story after you went through them the first time. There's new stuff to do in each of the dungeons, too. (Warning: Don't talk to Keeper of the Castle in Sweetheart's Castle until you're positively sure you plan on coming back.)
Very off topic but my brother just screamed and went down the stairs so fast i thought he fell. he didnt luckily. but the truth was flashing in my head and i was so scared me fell. omg that was the scariest thing ever. sorry that was just terrifying. He was screaming because of was laughing omg thank goodness
Yay, your playthrough had a WTF value of 13 so you saw the Stranger movers! If you didn't have that value, they would have been normal people who would give Sunny vague words of encouragement. Another effect of it that you may be able to experience again is that one of the Humphreys (the one who's suntanning) will say "I fucking love air conditioning" the first time you talk to them and never again. Having the highest WTF value, you would also get the least amount of Clams from Tiffany Darling in the Last Resort. The hands in the green Black Space background area where always there actually! They're one of the most striking parts of that room's atmosphere to me. All the Black Space area backgrounds are super interesting, particularly the one you see here from the distorted Disco Area. If you look close you can just find some part of it clearly says the word AWAY which links with the text boxes all over the room saying "You are far away from home.". The first background on the hand staircase is the background of the church area, which is mostly Basil's Something! An extremely obscure and thus often missed detail is the tone that plays when you sleep in Neighbor's Bedroom at the climax of this route. It is only heard one other time in the game: when you are first shown White Space at the very beginning of the game. While up to interpretation, the most likely one I think is that this tone represents Headspace being "reset" into an initial state. Since after this point, when you meet your friends again the scene plays out almost exactly the same and your adventure can begin again. This is implied by the Branch Coral and other ancient Headspace figures implying that you've done this many, many times before, as Sunny constantly tries to cope with this trauma he's had for years now. There'll even be slightly more evidence depending on how much you explore the reset Headspace. It's a shame you didn't get to see the last proper Black Space room in this route, its a personal favorite for just how creepy it is. There's actually a bunch of secret rooms you could access in Black Space during your initial way through there. I recommend looking up all those secrets personally because I think they show super fascinating stuff but I also don't recommend it unless you can stomach some of the scariest things in the game! In case you don't, for anyone curious about them, I'll describe ones that can no longer be accessed here: -In the 5th room of Black Space (which the wiki calls the Backyard Area but is known internally as the Forest of Stumps), after waiting for Something to say "SUNNY...I love you" roughly 15 times (which should take 143 seconds), if you examine the right side of the map you can jump down into the background (as a sidenote, examining this background is fascinating once you know The Truth). When you interact with it you will be in a not necessarily unique area of Black Space, though if you are not on the Hikikomori route the screen will be covered in static, implying you are not supposed to be here. Proceeding through, there is one door that is normally not here next to a swingset, which lets you access the unique MARI IS HOME event, which could potentially also let you go even deeper into Red Space, or has a chase with Mari, both of which are mutually exclusive and change the state of the event. -In the 11th area of Black Space with all your faceless friends (known internally as Meat Space, though the wiki calls it the Faceless Area) interacting with Basil twice changes Basil's face sprite to being covered with his Something. Similarly, interacting with Mari twice changes her portrait to that of Something, and then a third time makes it the spooky Mari sprite (internally called Hellmari). The layout of this area, if you remove the background and sprite objects, clearly spells out Kill Me which is... really sad. -In the 14th area of Black Space with you and Basil riding the raft, after Basil loses his head you can ride the raft again. This replaces the fantastic BGM "Come And See" with a heartbeat sound effect. If you ride the raft 2 more times, you will be teleport to a new area of Black Space that you could still access.
I think what is both interesting and possibly sad is that you can sort Sunny's things however you see fit. You can throw everything away. You can call them all toys. In some ways it doesnt matter cause you'll just live in Headspace from now on. Even Sunny's identity was given over to Omori so in a way nothing from Sunny's real life even matters
i don’t know what else to say so MARI IS HOME - an area in BLACKERSPACE, which is most easily accessible in the OMORI route. however, you can only enter this area on the SUNNY ROUTE. weird..
Sorting through Sunny's belongings on my playthrough made me cry. Something about Sunny just throwing out whatever you try putting in the trash box without question felt uniquely sad. Probably biased since at the time I was preparing to move into an apartment for college and was trying to escape the dread of leaving home but, y'know. :)
So I don't know if this is just me, but a thought I had about the box sorting chore. There is no "correct" answer do where to put your stuff, the game lets you do whatever you choose. Which interestingly, means you have the option to throw all of sunny's things away. Thinking about the implications of somebody throwing away all of their belongings right before your family moves, combined with everything else in the hikikomori route, leaves a heavy feeling in my stomach.
The game actually keeps score of how good you did organizing things and it will throw a different dialog depending on the score. But yeah, its still that feeling you describe. In the end, Omori has complete control over headspace and its started to leak more and more into the real world, but even if its Omori just not having enough power over Sunny and his trauma yet, or if its just Omori controlling the trauma and being cynical, a part of Sunny is still there. We can still move and act for ourselves as Sunny, and Sunny still thats that optio in his menu to finish the game early, now in real life as well.
Once you do all the other Hikikomori content you should go back inside Humphrey for some of the hardest boss fights in the game, including THE hardest boss.
✧ i haven’t been super up to date on the previous hikikomori episodes- did you collect all the keys? it might take some time, but after gathering all the keys, a new area that reflects sunny’s deepest thoughts can be unlocked. if you haven’t, i would love to see you review it! ✧
This video help me realize how much I avoid my own trauma and the effects it can have. These are amazing. I cant play the game again due to my own triggers so I hope you playthrough the extra content of white space. Please please please
A small detail I found at the living room of Sunny's house is that there's a ceiling fan working like crazy at the minute 53:26 but it wasn't at the minute 44:46. Just a detail I found when watching the video.
Your playthrough of Omori is really amazing, I love how you take the time to explain the psychological reason behind a character's thoughts or actions or speech, it's a lot of details that I didn't pick up when I played through Omori myself. Really loving it!
There is something you could normally do on the whitespace laptop, but since all the keys are missing you can't do it. Also I've never seen that cutscene with mari at the foot of the bed.
there is another difference that you didn't show in your previous video. after confronting your fear of drowning in the hikikomori route and going back to the deam world, at the pier you will find Kel instead of Mary to guide you to the last resort, whish means that a lot of the path there is cut off making it shorter. also, there is no "goodbye" scene for Mary, and thus, no awkward moment to see mary in the next picnic pasket near the resort :^P
If you like bossfighting there is a lot :P Just a freindly advice.Get all the best gear in the game and max out your characters if you ever want to beat Perfectheart. It's only possible if you are maxed out AND you know how to use your skills.
EVERYONE! I HAVE DISCOVERED A NEW SECRET AT 53:24 THAT ISN'T IN THE WIKI! Alright so, the fan at the top of the roof, IS SPINNING LIKE CRAZY. Who could have activated It? Stranger perhaps? I think this is my first omori secret i discovered that no one else had before.
Hey, Counselor Plays, how similar is Omori to dissociative identity disorder? I do not think they're the same especially because we get told Omori is evil and the good ending has Omori disappearing (for those who don't get why this is a problem, who would want to go to therapy if the goal was to make them disappear in favor of the identity who was there first?), but how similar are they?

Sunny, desperately avoiding the truth, CRAWLS to Omori, so that he can save Sunny and take him back to his comfortable ignorance.
im actually screaming
i live right next to a fire station so sirens are pretty common around here and
as soon as you picked up the “duets for violin and piano” book i heard faint sirens
thought it came from the game until i heard them fade down the road
like goddamn the timing
oh there's a LOT to explore in whitespace after this haha, don't be afraid to look up spoiler-free guides when you need to (be wary of the spoiler-filled versions of course!!) I know I needed guides after wasting so much time being confused 😭 best of luck going going further into this!
55:00 Hikiko is arguably less scary for Sunny. But I'm not one to tell
Fun fact: try checking your menu on moving day or the night before moving day (i think). There’s an option that can give you an ending exclusive to the Hikikomori route.
In case if you missed it, at 20:54 the duet plays.
oh my god
oh my god.
fun fact: The part in which Omori and his hand throne is (after loosing to Stranger) is called commonly called Red Space
The Red Space also appears as a "Eerie Red Glow"
7:14 Didn't we also see Hero with the Afraid status whenever the group battled any spider enemies in Pyrefly Forest? And now that I'm thinking deeper, didn't everyone besides Omori become afflicted with the status when they fought the Something on the train to Orange Oasis?
You are right! And in several hikikomori only fights, the whole party is afraid except for Omori who is, for obvious reasons, immune to the Afraid status. Sunny sure isn't though.
well in the train Something fight the entire party is afraid.
In the true ending you learn that Sunny at age 12 considered those toys old baby toys but he hadn't thrown them away yet
In a Nutshell: SUNNY chose to live a happy lie as OMORI, rather than facing the sad truth... again, after 4 years.
17:24
This part HURT after knowing the truth
Spoilers for the truth (although you should already know it lol)
Sunny carried Mari up the stairs after she fell and put her in bed because he thought that she was just resting.
Among all this dreadful stuff, the mention of the hands behaving just like dogs is adorable
In case you don't, for anyone curious about them, I'll describe ones that can no longer be accessed here:
-In the 5th room of Black Space (which the wiki calls the Backyard Area but is known internally as the Forest of Stumps), after waiting for Something to say "SUNNY...I love you" roughly 15 times (which should take 143 seconds), if you examine the right side of the map you can jump down into the background (as a sidenote, examining this background is fascinating once you know The Truth).
Even Sunny's identity was given over to Omori so in a way nothing from Sunny's real life even matters
i don’t know what else to say so
MARI IS HOME - an area in BLACKERSPACE, which is most easily accessible in the OMORI route. however, you can only enter this area on the SUNNY ROUTE. weird..
there are ways to reach blackspace 2 in the sunny route.
You can access it through an extremely obscure method in one particular room of Black Space by doing some very specific things
I've never seen this but hey since I'm too scared to watch the Hikkikomori route I can't really blame myself.
If you listen close to the childish room music box music you can hear a disturbing version of the final duet as if to taunt Sunny for not facing it
In the console port the Picture book has fake photos. Added to it during hiki route
excited for the snow area :) it has my favourite soundtrack in the game
Just a detail I found when watching the video.
i have yet to finish my hikikomori route since i wanna explore blackspace more but its just so spooky sometimes lol
Your playthrough of Omori is really amazing, I love how you take the time to explain the psychological reason behind a character's thoughts or actions or speech, it's a lot of details that I didn't pick up when I played through Omori myself. Really loving it!
Check menu when you wake up at night before moving away.
There is something you could normally do on the whitespace laptop, but since all the keys are missing you can't do it. Also I've never seen that cutscene with mari at the foot of the bed.
there is another difference that you didn't show in your previous video.
after confronting your fear of drowning in the hikikomori route and going back to the deam world, at the pier you will find Kel instead of Mary to guide you to the last resort, whish means that a lot of the path there is cut off making it shorter.
also, there is no "goodbye" scene for Mary, and thus, no awkward moment to see mary in the next picnic pasket near the resort :^P
there's alot more interesting stuff left to explore in headspace that you can't access on the normal route
Stranger is probaly one of my favorite characters, they are really cool.
If you like bossfighting there is a lot :P
Just a freindly advice.Get all the best gear in the game and max out your characters if you ever want to beat Perfectheart. It's only possible if you are maxed out AND you know how to use your skills.
Omori is suppose to protect sunny from the truth, even if it means replacing sunny with himself.
I acted just like Basil to an old friend I had and I feel not that great about it.
Well well well it's time isn't it
Man this route is depressing.
please play the extra headspace content! theres so much interesting stuff
I came here for funny trauma boy but I got psychological explanations 0-O
In the piano room I’m pretty sure you can open the menu, check it out!
Ooof the toy part hurt me I used to play with fucking crumbs
I thought there were new photos in the photo album when headspace resets? Or is that only console content?
Check out the last resort and cpt.spaceboy's ship
Since you're on the final day, you should check the pause menu in the real world. It leads to another possible ending.
Did you fight all the secret bosses? like sad space bf
"thats diffrent!!"
memento Mari
Hey, Counselor Plays, how similar is Omori to dissociative identity disorder? I do not think they're the same especially because we get told Omori is evil and the good ending has Omori disappearing (for those who don't get why this is a problem, who would want to go to therapy if the goal was to make them disappear in favor of the identity who was there first?), but how similar are they?
New video yay!!!
