  • This BAND-MAID reaction is genuinely my first time ever hearing Manners or Black Hole in addition to my first time seeing this live performance video. Both songs were great fun. Hats off to BAND-MAID. They rock.
    0:00 Intro
    0:22 Start of Manners
    4:42 Start of Black Hole
    7:51 Summary
When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.
You can checkout the artist's original video without my commentary here: • BAND-MAID / Manners, B...
Please do recommend songs or other artists for me to checkout in future by commenting on this video! I'm constantly on the lookout for great new music and things I've never heard before.
A Spotify playlist of songs I've reacted to and consider to be absolute bangers can be found here: open.spotify.com/playlist/26j...

They performed 3 online streamed live concert performances in 2021. Oh, and an album. And several singles. THE best Rock band on Earth is made up of 5 very hard-working Rock goddesses. As for 'Black Hole...The story I heard was that Kanami asked Akane how many BPM's she could put out and, when Akane said "About 200", Kanami smiled and said she'd written a 220 BPM song and wondered if Akane could handle it. Akane replied "Hold my ramen...".

Exactly, i think the band was concerned that A-Chan might hurt herself at 220 :)
With all the content they gave us in 2021 and then finish the year with an Acoustic Xmas
that exceeded what i was hoping for was just perfect. Band-Maid never stops surprising me.

When Akane got the demo for "Black Hole," she came up with seven different drum tracks for it, which she named "Easy, Comfortable, Normal, Possible if I work hard, Tough, Painful, and Hell." The band chose Hell.

This band is remarkable and it’s clear from interviews and the music that they have a vast set of influences; all the way back to The Beatles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Santana, Motown (the Funk Brothers) & even Toto - all who I’ve them mention. Having an active bass during a guitar solo is actually a well established theme in 60’s/70’s rock - Geddy Lee of Rush - quite the active bassist, said he learned that from Jack Bruce of Cream, and always felt free to go all in during Lifeson’s solos; and clearly Misa feels the same. I love it and it adds a great dynamic to their music in the tradition of some of the greatest rock bands of all time. With the excellence they are producing, by the time they hang up their instruments (hopefully not for many years), I think Band Maid is going to be recognized as another of the great bands in rock history. They are already so good, only getting better and have practically unlimited capability to create some of the best rock music we’ve ever heard. I sure hope to see live in 2022 if everything falls into place (fingers-crossed). That’ll be 🔥🔥🔥.
      Rock On 🤘🏼

@@bobespirit2112 Speaking of Cream, as a young teenage male, "Spoonful" live from the "Wheels of Fire" album was one of my favorite songs and still is. Certainly a great example of an "active bass". Actually you can consider it it as three 3 solos, (drum, bass and guitar) combined into a rock masterpiece. The rhythm section is certainly one of the reasons that Band-Maid has become one of my favorite bands. In fact they rekindled my interest in rock and I have no problem comparing them to the rock gods that I grew up with.

Prior to Band-Maid, the only Japanese band I had ever listened to repeatedly is the still great Maximum The Hormone. I enjoyed Band-Maid so much that I started listening to a lot of Japanese bands but only a handful have really stuck with me. I regularly listen to Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila and the Wagakki Band and I don't see that changing as long as they keep making music. I have also listened to the recent debut album from Hanabie and I no longer consider them a one song wonder - they are really good for such a young band.
If I were to make a personal top 10 songs and albums for 2021, I know that Manners would be on the song list and Unseen World would be on the album list in a year where there have been many superior rock, blues rock and and metal albums released. For this old guy, Unseen World is right up there with the 2021 albums from Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Trivium, Dream Theater, Epica, Cheap Trick, etc. In fact, Band-Maid reminds me of Cheap Trick. A great, but initially underrated, rock band full of quirky members with great talent led by a song writing genius of a lead guitarist. As much as I love Rick Neilsen, I think Kanami Tono is the more impressive song writer. Manners and Black Hole are a perfect example of her song writing versatility. She forced Misa and Akane to become better than they already were and taught Miku Kobato from scratch to be a solid guitarist. Of the Japanese bands I mentioned, Miyako of Lovebites might be the only one close to her level. Listen to the last 3 Band-Maid albums - at least 90% of the music is Kanami Tono. She is just getting started.

I loved early Cheap Trick. Saw them play a free concert in suburban Chicago back in the 70’s. There’s an awesome, hard-rocking early concert set on TH-cam. They achieved widespread fame with Live At Budokan, but by then they had developed a much softer pop sound.

    • @danw6048
      @danw6048 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Greg-om2hb I have seen Cheap Trick live a couple of times, both great shows. The first was the 1980 Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl, legendary not only for the lineup but for how hot it was that day. The second was a free downtown street concert in my hometown. I agree that Neilsen started to lean in on the more poppy side of New Wave after the Dream Police album (still my favorite). Kanami seems to be leaning into more of a punk sound. They are both very experimental.

I really like the concept of Black Hole. It is chaotic, disorienting and just a wall of energy. It might not be the easiest and catchiest song they've made. I get the feeling that is done by purpose. To me they went 100% with the more artsy thing of trying to re-create the feeling of a black hole instead.

No doubt it's a deliberate kind of dissonance and I just don't understand why some people (probably young and dumb) can't appreciate how creative the band is. The song feels like it's being pulled apart under the influence of a great force, slowing, speeding up and spiraling out of control. A black hole indeed. More I listen to it the more I love it. Then again I could say that about everything they do.
