Miku brings so much to the table, going over and under Saiki's pitch of voice harmonizing that I think sometimes she is underrated given the fact she just started playing guitar and decided to take the backseat in the vocals but I truly enjoy her journey, from pretending to play the guitar to now been able to play that ridiculous triplet on Black Hole.
And obviously, great reaction :D
Well I mean she still plays the bare minimum when it comes to guitar. I admit shes a great lyricist and singer but with guitar she has a long way to go
@@Dubbel12 Of course, Kanami is an 11/10, Miku is a 3/10 but she started as a 0/10 (faking it), so I top my hat to her.
Considering Miku wrote the lyrics for the entire Unseen World album, I would say that Miku is kind of important. lol
@@Dubbel12 I don't think she is "bare minimum" she took the lead during the Play intro on the live video. Is she as good as Kanami, of course not. But you are seeing her do much more complex phrasing in recent music.
Miku told me she's on stage 3 of World Domination. I said "Remember Rome wasn't built in a day". Miku replied "I know it wasn't, silly. Rome was built in Italy" :)
Miku knows a lot about Rome. One of her favorite people is the Po...pe.

@@GaryHolloway-810 Apparently Miku's inspiration for world domination was the 1962 film "The Pigeon That Took Rome". She thought, "why stop there?"
They are a live band if one ever existed.
My first live show was 1970, Led Zeppelin!. I've seen quite a few more. I love this band ,and hope to see them live.

I'm 63 years old. I grew up seeing all of the greatest rock bands of all time live from the late 60's through the 90's ( we went to epic rock concerts almost every week; at least 3 times a month). I've seen a lot of great rock and roll. And I can definitely say that I think these young ladies are the greatest hard rock/pop rock band in the world right now. They are absolutely phenomenal!
I'm 76 and started going down this road with Joey Dee and the Starlighters, Chubby Checker, the Motown shows on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, doo wop, The Isley Brothers, Junior Walker and the All-Stars, Johnny Maestro and The Crests, James Brown, The Rascals and too many other groups to mention over the last 60 years or so. Band Maid is something that hasn't been seen here in well over a decade., or maybe more. Japanese female bands in particular are the keepers of the flame for great rock in all its sub-genres.
How many songs do you know where the back up vocals get mentioned let alone praised?! The whole album has great back up vocals by Miku.

I've seen them live once and they were fantastic. And that was a while ago so I can only imagine how much they must have improved since.

Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Blues rock to speed metal, Band Maid really shows their versatility with these two songs! Love the intro for Manners! Love the Pigeon scream! Ya, ya, ya, ya, Yes, Yes, Yes! Both songs really showcase Misa and Akane, Love it! Anyone question that Miku can play? The intro into Black Hole should dispel that myth!

It amazes me that this fairly mousy, shy, bookish, scholarly girl turns into a guitar god when she picks up her PRS and steps on-stage.
You guys need to react to Play, the official live version. Trust me, you'll love it!
These two songs are such a great showcase of the range of talents in this band. While obviously the bass mix in this is amazing and MISA is on fire and Miku's back up vocals are almost every highlight, the hero of this video for me is Saiki. Her vocals are so strong.

It never ceases to amaze me just how well-balanced and clean Band-Maid´s mixes are, to be honest, as you can hear each instrument and how they change the overall sound. Especially, the bass guitar´s sound is in many cases completely buried under the audio output of other instruments. And it would be a pity not to hear Misa´s playing and how fluidly she switches between playing with a pick and fingers. Akane is such a solid drummer. Saiki is a great lead vocalist, but Miku´s backing vocals make it sound even better when they harmonize. While Kanami still does the lion´s share of lead guitar-playing, she still writes things that help Miku to improve her own skills.
Another all-female Japanese band which you might want to check out in the future: 【MV】NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION or something rawer (not as much post-production): 「OIRAN」(TH-cam ver.) / NEMOPHILA
Of course, there is the band Hanabie, as well, but I don´t want to push my luck or whatever. :-)

I'm so happy to hear you acknowledge Miku for her work, she is doing a lot here and rarely is recognized for her huge presence, thank you for this and hopefully other's will come to this realization in the near future.
i listend to black hole so many times and every time i picked up new stuff....riffs basslines backing volcals or drumm fills i missed before.....its madness

As someone who has been singing for money since 1966, I'd like to call out Miku's background vocals. Saying "Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah" is extremely hard to do at that tempo. "Ah" is one of the most difficult sounds to make unless you stretch it out...way legato.

Hey guys! When the Maids started releasing live videos from that streaming show, Manners was what I wanted most, and Black Hole was what I never thought we'd get, because it's insane. Well, clearly I underestimated the ladies, something I shan't do again. 🤘😎🤘
I don't know if you guys have seen them live yet, but when they do this song at a show the entire crowd chimes in with Miku on the ha-ha's and that scream. I've seen them three times and it was the three best shows I've ever been to, except for Blood Sweat and Tears at the Cafe au Go Go in NYC in 1967 and The Doors at the Whiskey au Go Go in LA in 1968 or 69 just before I went to boot camp. They are the best rock band on the planet. And groups like SCANDAL, Glim Spanky, Lovebites, Nempohila and Gacharic Spin are also right up there. And let's not forget the great J-Rock groups that are no longer together like Stereopony and Girlfriend. The future is safe in Japan.
To bad they couldn't have a live audience for this. Imagine what the energy would have been.

Regarding black hole Konami came to Akane and asked her what the highest BPM that she had drummed to. They then bumped it up a bit because Akane wanted a challenge! Also keep a close eye on Saiki's eyes!!
